The Jolly Oyster, a jolly treat on a Ventura beach

I like how their website has to point out that "within 400 miles" means "local".

In any case, excited about hearing about this! I've been waiting for something like the farms they have up in Tomales Bay down here in LA!

Creative Fine Dining in/near Cambria?

I suppose if I can't get creative/modern. What about just creative/fresh/delicious in Cambria? It looks like a lot of restaurants there tout local veggies and seasonal menus. Which of those would you recommend?

Creative Fine Dining in/near Cambria?

I'm looking to make a reservation for a special dinner with my man. Ambiance would be nice, but I am mainly looking for delicious, creative (possibly modern) food. I've been to the websites of a few places (Black Cat, Sow's Ear) and why does it seem like every plate of food comes served with steamed vegetables of broccoli, carrots and zucchini? Eek.

Perhaps I should be looking outside of Cambria? Any recommendations?

When is the best time of year to be eating the oysters from Morro Bay?

what are the best foie gras dishes to splurge on before the ban?

Last time I bought a lobe of HV foie from Surfas it was only $69/lb. That was about 2 years ago.

what are the best foie gras dishes to splurge on before the ban?

Order a lobe of Hudson Valley foie via Surfas (to save on shipping), slice, sprinkle with salt and pepper, sear and call it a day.

The Ten Best Things To Eat In LA Right Now

Treat Tea & Ice in Torrance also does their shaved ice exactly the same way. Same consistancy with different flavored ice like taro, green tea, mango, etc. and similar toppings--condensed milk, lychee, mochis, etc. Yum!

Bulgarini Gelato served in Culver City

ohhhhh. Super excited to here Bulgarini is being served somewhere that isn't the middle of nowhere. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the tip!

Animal or Son of a Gun?

Guess it depends on if you're in the mood for meat or seafood?

Personally, I thought Son of a Gun was wonderful. It's been awhile since I've been back, but I remember trying more than half the menu with a large table and most, if not all of the dishes were fantastic.

Best sushi in Torrance?

I've always enjoyed Sushi-Ken. It's my go-to sushi joint when I'm in Torrance.

A REALLY HOT sausage..

Took a look at their website.. Saw a "Cajun HOT HOT HOT" sausage. Have you tried that one as well?

The andouille sounds great too.. Will probably go this weekend, buy a few varieties and figure out which one I like.

Thanks for the tip!

A REALLY HOT sausage..

Sometimes mild and sometimes hot and spicy? Not very consistent sounding.. What if I get a mild batch?! =(

A REALLY HOT sausage..

I am in search of a super hot & spicy sausage that I can use as part of a low country boil I am have having on the beach. I like a really hot & spicy sausage and have sampled many across various supermarkets, but nothing made me sweat! The closest that I came was when a friend bought a package from a Lucky's supermarket in the Bay Area--except that I don't remember the name of it anymore. It was "San Francisco Sausage" or something like that except that I Googled it to no avail.. I only remember that it had a good amount of heat, was delicious and was branded with something local to the Bay Area!

Any ideas out there?

Soba-Ya in Torrance

I meant to say before the pop up is gone. =)

Did Golden Bird Fried Chicken go out of business?

I just passed by one yesterday.. It's the one on Western in Gardena. Can't Google it for some reason.. Maybe they renamed it?

Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?

Joe's in Santa Monica for your basic by the slice cheese pizza. It's a yummy and great intro to pizza.

Chicken Fried Steak Craving..South Bay?

The Claim Jumper in Torrance is now a Tony Romas.

Where should I become acquainted with cheese and charcuterie?

Waterloo & City for charcuterie although I wouldn't order any of their food--it's not great, but I love their charcuterie boards. Meat and beer--it's all you need! AOC for cheese--they've got a great selection.

Has anyone had Melisse's 8 Course "Foie For All" Tasting Menu?

Hm. Good question. But hasn't the California ban on it already gone into effect?

Breakfast burritos in Torrance?

This is my go to place in the South Bay for hole in the wall tacos. I've never had their breakfast though. I'm all about the al pastor and carne asada tacos smothered in their hot sauce. OK, the sauce. The sauce there just does it for me. Love it.

Easy Eating At Easy Earthen in Rowland Heights

Still all the way in the SGV.. Sigh..

Major props for Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach

TOTAL NATURAL
What is it?
The quintessence of pureness and genuineness.

Haha. Sorry, but I just pulled that off their website and wanted to share. Kind of sounds like some spiritual site trying to recruit members.

Birthday celebration for my husband - alternative to INK

I probably wouldn't go to Glejina anymore because of this: http://la.eater.com/archives/2011/11/21/gjelinas_c_health_rating_magic_wine_in_malibu_more.php. A C? Seriously? At a restaurant like that? Makes you wonder..

I liked Son of a Gun, but you've really got to be in the mood for rich, rich, rich food that night. The portions seem small, but somehow you're completely full after--probably all the butter and whatever else magical ingredients they put in there..

Thanks for the idea anyway. I ordered a strawberry cream cake from Prolific Oven and a "cake sticker" separately online. I'll just have the bakery put the sticker on for me.

I've never had the cakes at Goldilocks, but visually, they just look really sweet. Anyone have experience with a Goldilock's cake?

A number a people I know who have tried Aki's signature guava cake said it was "OK" and compared it to the guava cake you can get at King's Hawaiian (down in LA--not sure if there is a branch in the Bay Area) which IMO Is also just OK.

Favorite Cakes in the Bay Area

How are their cakes in terms of sweetness? I like my cakes not too sugary..
