looking for kai jiew moo saap

so, apparently "moo saap" is ground pork. so here is a link to kai jiew moo saap recipe. i think i would prefer the fish sauce over soy sauce.

yep! i bet that's it! thank you! going to plan an outing to seattle soon.
will you be going there soon and if you do, would you try it? i would love to hear a report on it.

this looks easy enough to make and i kinda like the host. i'm going to look for more of her videos.

i prefer the deep fried version. i will make that.
once i watched kylie kwan deep fry an egg sunnyside up in a wok. it was really fun to cook and had nice crispy edges that i really liked.

i saw this on a top 40 thai foods article. kai jiew moo saap. it is a deep fried egg omelette? does anyone know of a thai restaurant in seattle, and north and south and east of seattle that might serve this?
<<< will drive for food!

here's the blurb:
Kai Jiew Moo Saap

A real Thai comfort food and something everyone can cook is the Thai style omelet. Eggs are beat up with a dash of fish sauce and soy sauce and then minced pork is added. The egg mixture is then quite literally deep fried into an omelet that pleases a palette of rice. It is best eaten with a squirt of chili sauce (sauce prik).

Why Yelp Sucks!

also, yelp 5 star average rating from 5 reviews vs. 50 reviews does make a difference. i also recommend checking how many reviews a yelper has posted.

Why Yelp Sucks!

here in the greater seattle area, chowhound restaurant suggestions and discussions are mostly about the usual suspects too. hardly any new restaurants are discussed. when i mentioned some new restaurants in my neighborhood and solicited some opinions on them, the replies were underwhelming. maybe i am not part of the chowhound inner circle that like to talk amongst themselves. yelp trumps chowhound in this aspect. there are foolish reviews in both yelp and chowhound. another poster here, on another yelp thread said she regards yelp as a directory and i agree. sorry. don't mean to dump on chowhound but the superiority complex yelp-bashing diminishes chowhound imho.

Why Yelp Sucks!

yup! filter by date and start with the most recent reviews. you will see a definite trend

Why Yelp Sucks!

none of my yelp reviews were ever filtered from the first review i ever posted.

No kids allowed?

yes. the ban would not keep me from going to the restaurant. and in some ways, i may choose to go to this restaurant if i need some peace a quiet and not have all that racket.

i thought i'd share some more even if i feel like i'm talking to myself....heh.
i stopped by Skagit's Fish Market.

thank you for the recommendation. i had the crab sandwich. i plan to stopping by in the future and picking up some crab sandwiches to take home for dinner! the "cowboy caviar" was very tasty too.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

i knew it! i knew something was wrong with the current cheese whiz. they also had a jalapeno cheese whiz about 30 year's ago. i guess it's been discontinued.

slow cooker spanish rice recipe 31494

did anyone try this? Slow Cooker Spanish Rice recipe showed up on the homepage about a month ago. it looked good, it looked easy. it looked like a good choice for potlucks at work. it was terrible. i followed the directions exactly except for one step which will become clear to you.
2 hours into the cooking, i checked the rice. the liquid was mostly absorbed. some of the rice was somewhat cooked and there were raw grains of rice throughout. after another 20 minutes, i panicked and added a cup of broth. after another hour, the rice was mushy, exploded with raw grains of rice. the seasoning was weak: needed more of everything, including salt. it was a big fat disappointment. it would have been great to take the ingredients to work, plug in the slow cooker, pour in the broth and have it ready for the lunch potluck.
any suggestions on how to improve this recipe? or another better recipe?

Slow Cooker Spanish Rice

terrible. i followed the recipe to the letter. rice cooked unevenly. bits of hard rice mixed in with semi-cooked rice. 2 cups of broth was absorbed in 2 hours. i added another cup of broth for another hour and the rice turned to mush. the seasoning was weak and wimpy. i recommend twice the amount of chili powder and cumin and alot more salt.

lynnwood to anacortes, where to stop for lunch?

thank you all for the suggestions.
i ended up going to El Gitano. i think next time i will stop at the Train Wreck on the way to anacortes or the Skagit Fish on the way back.
El Gitano was ok. nothing special for me. the chile relleno was freshly made and the poblano was very tasty. the cheese was wrong.
the salsa had a nice kick and the chips were warm and crunchy.
the birria was like no birria i had ever had. i'm used to a stewy soupy birria. it was tasty, but not the birria i am used to.
pleasant waitress. they were quite busy for lunch.

while in anacortes i went to Adrift for lunch, which i found to be expensive for what you got; hung out at Marine Supply & Hardware; A'Towne Bistro for dinner which was very good the basic small plates thing; and Mary Ann's Kitchen's muscular breakfast.

we didnt do Frieda's but my friends raved about it. so next time for sure.

lynnwood to anacortes, where to stop for lunch?

yes, wa state is not great for mexican but there are pockets i've found here and there, especially on the other side of the mountains in eastern wa. for some reason i thought up north would be good.

When the waiter wants to clear the dishes before everyone is done

yes, this is such a difficult situation especially at a table with more than two.
first, everyone should eat at a more leisurely pace and not wolf down the food. it would be so nice if everyone would finish at about the same time. it's kind of like driving along with the traffic flow.

second, the dishes should not be cleared until everyone is finished.
the end.

dried natto

thanks chemical.
i think we've decided that my friend should order from davis-sq's link. i think i might even order some myself.
re: dry natto, i suddenly remembered instant natto miso. it had dried natto in it and it rehydrated nicely in the instant miso soup, but it was nothing close to the fresh/wet natto that i would eat with rice. the dried natto were chopped into very small bits.
