Restaurants similar to Wink, Aquarelle, and Restaurant Jezebel

I've been loving Chez Nous and Green Pastures for 20 years! (Green Pastures is not too far away from downtown)

Austin Burger Smackdown!

Right on about Mike's Pub! I also like the hit-or-miss, Casino El Camino. I'm somewhat scared of it though, as I know one day I'm gonna catch some sort of disease from the multiple-pierced, not-the-cleanest-looking, often-times-bad-attitude cook.

What's the deal with Five Guys?

Would Hut's be the other? ;) I don't think Phil's is that great, BTW. I am curious to know what are your favorites, ieat thereforeiam??

People Smack Me When I Say I Don't Like Tacodeli & P. Terry's

I wouldn't smack you (unless you were into that), but I love P.Terry's and Tacodeli. At the same time, I really like all your other choices. So it's OK not to like a few Austin favorites.

Help me impress my daughter's boyfriend (a foodie from Philly)

He should be trying to impress YOU!

Restaurants in South/Southwest Austin?

My wife and I tried several dishes at Hecho en Mexico including the mole. Nothing has any flavor. The tip-off should have been the salsa they put down with the chips. What was that? Runny and bland and strange looking. My wife is from Interior Mexico and she has never seen anything like it. The staff is nice and they said the food is Oaxaca-inspired. Really? Oaxaca is famous for their cheese and guess what's NOT on the menu - Oaxacan cheese! They do have Monterrey Jack - welcome to a less flavorful Flores Tex-Mex style establishment at twice the price! Oh one little side note: my wife was thirsty for a frozen Margarita. She saw a sign out front with a picture of a frozen Margarita. Great! No, not so great, they don't have frozen Margaritas. Boo! Go elsewhere.

Best Pizza in Austin?

That's interesting, because Austin Pizza Garden is on the top of my list as the absolute WORST pizza in Austin and beyond. I would choose a Totino's over it. Service is terrible to boot. A shame, because the building is cute (that's what got me to try it).

Best Tacos Al Pastor in Austin

Tacos de Trompo is what it is called in Mexico. Fresh off the trumpet-shaped slab. Pineapple is definitely NOT a requirement (no me gusta), but fresh cilantro and chopped onions are!

Onion rings

Hoffbrau Steakhouse has the best onion rings I've ever tasted!

P.Terry's #3

Gotta say I really like P.Terry's - at least the one on S. Lamar. I find the burgers extremely tasty and fresh. The fries are fine - nothing special. My only complaint is that the patties are too small! I think Mighty Fine does a great job on their burgers as well, but I think P.Terry's condiments are better (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc..).

TAKE TO THE STREETS THEY'RE CHARGING FOR CHIPS AND SALSA

Chapala gives the first basket free and then charges for refills. I can't stand that! Aranda's is very similar in cuisine, but doesn't charge extra (at least last time I went) AND they are generally cheaper on the same menu items. I choose Arandas!

Anyone tried Segovia?

You can't try it now, 'cause it has CLOSED. I knew it was coming when they went to "budget" breakfast and lunch specials that had nothing to do with Spanish cuisine. I even emailed the management early on to pay attention and learn from comments on THIS board. They didn't listen.

birthday brunch: lambert's or green pastures?

Rachel,

Green Pastures blows away Lambert's. However, the best you can do is the Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons.

Trouble on the East Side? El Regio and La Regiomontana “Temporarily” Closed

Stassney location is now Pollo Rico, and it's the same bird and the same green sauce! Thank God!

Trouble on the East Side? El Regio and La Regiomontana “Temporarily” Closed

Hmmm, so there's a Pollo Regio trailer on Stassney and Pleasant Valley??! I did not know that, must be new. Now, I've got to check it out. Thanks!

Trouble on the East Side? El Regio and La Regiomontana “Temporarily” Closed

Any updates on the Stassney location? I know that the North locations are open - but it doesn't help those of us who live South! I would need an extra $20 for the gas to go up there and get my cheap chicken! Doesn't make sense.

Trouble on the East Side? El Regio and La Regiomontana “Temporarily” Closed

Yeah, I'll go along with that! And if they do reopen, I promise to never again complain about them not giving me enough green salsa.

Trouble on the East Side? El Regio and La Regiomontana “Temporarily” Closed

I don't know about code violations, but sadly, I think El Regio is in trouble. The exact same signs were at the Stassney location. I went back on July 28 and it was still closed, this time no sign about remodeling or when it would reopen. There was no actual remodel, I believe that notice was just to keep people from calling them. You wouldn't believe the amount of people circling their parking lot with confused, sad faces! Mine was one of them! The only hope I have is that there were actual code violations and they are in the process of "cleaning up their act." Please, if there is a God, they will reopen!
