Petrossian

for those moments, we like to get a tin from beverly hills cheese shop where you can get a pretty large tin of the american stuff which is tasty for a smaller sum...then spread it half an inch thick on cream cheese and bagels.

petrossians is a gem. if you're ever in NYC hit it up there--so different inside, chairs with fricken mink on them. my dog rescuing wife refuses to return!

A Tale of Two Shinjis

reporting another excellent omakase lunch from kiriko shinji-san this week.

Lots of his classics including the smoked salmon/caviar, ika-uni, and some new ones for me there including hirasoudagatsu (bullet fish). Big cuts of fish/lots of japanese fish and nicely salted and yuzu'd snapper types/two toros and maguro/japanese scallop/well paced/all top quality. Lunch this time was around 60pp. Dinner would have been 2X that, or more....and kevin, if you haven't been totally scared off chowhounds and somehow read this, white truffle ice cream coming for new years says shinji.

also reporting another excellent burrito from oki shinji-san this week.

This time added half an order of fries inside a pastrami burrito (with the chili, cabbage, peppers, pastrami, cheese). Size of football and halftime plus home and away required. De-lish. Don't be scared of Oki's dog -- it is best in class, whatever the class is.

between these two guys from okinawa, i'm doing pretty well.

What's a dive bar in LA or OC on the current scene that Mr. Bukowski would not feel out of place at if deigned to enter the joint ?????????????????????????

This spot is called blue collar. Not bad but the prices are white collar!

Best Ice Cream in los angeles????

Big ice cream fan here and I enjoy carmela's and mother moo a great deal, both of which are easy to nab in Weho...but, there's a new contender from a surprise source, Connie and Ted's. The housemade chocolate ice cream there is the best chocolate I've had in a long time, better even for me than the dark chocolate cocoa nib one at carmela or the salted dark chocolate at mother moo...this stuff is so damn chocolaty. the butter pecan was also great. I know it's hard to think dessert after chowder, oysters, fried clams and lobster, but this is must do territory for desserts. can get the ice cream with wet nuts as we did, and hot chocolate chip cookies on the side cuz those are better than spoons...the blondie sundae is also a treat.

alternative to taco catering?

Marty's home of the combo does great burgers chili dogs etc. Very professional and nice.

The thing I like the best is the make your own roll with a sugarcane shrimp longer slice of shrimp cake kind of thing. I haven't really branched out too much either. Had some work down there so that was my go to spot for a few days. Haven't been in a minute.

Park's BBQ vs Genwa vs Soowon vs ??? - Korean Food

everyone here loves parks...it's great. but I like chosun galbi better for a number of reasons: better atmosphere/newer nicer, private rooms, full bar, better non bbq dishes (big menu lots of seafood), and for me, the meat is just as good as parks, particularly the beef shortribs.

anyways, not a parks hater but it's not my favorite.

for me the challenge there is not gorging on everything and picking different stuff to pig out on each time I do go, but that's hard to do and I usually end up doing the former which is good and bad.
