I'll add my vote to some of the aforementioned, and add some new ones: Oddfellows (Bishop Arts district) - breakfast every day and those guys know their coffee |

Leap Day Anniversary Dinner - Looking for a Unique experience in Dallas area I'm taking note of little palm island for the next time I'm in Miami. So - which place did you end up choosing? |
|
|
Sorry, I normally post an update much sooner. The group ended up at Tati Bistro for Sunday brunch. Service: friendly yet sloooooow and forgetful Typically, I'd write more but honestly there was nothing that stood out (either positive or negative) about this place. And if somebody else asks for a rec in the area, I'd also point them to Gallery Grill. |
|
|
Oh thanks. I totally forgot about them. Great suggestion. |

Business Dinner in North Dallas Oh I'd also add Rafain Brazilian Steakhouse - similar concept to Texas de Brazil and the picanha is out of this world. www.rafain.com. I also like Banana Leaves...it's not your typical Texan restaurant (it's Thai food), but the food is good and the service is excellent. thaibananaleaf.com |

Business Dinner in North Dallas Second for Nosh and Whiskey Cake. Nosh also has a beautiful private room that you can reserve with a minimum food commitment. |

I'm looking for a Sunday brunch place within walking distance of Spadina and Bloor. Most of the places that I would have picked (such as Marben) don't fit the criteria. On my radar right now are Lola's, Tati Bistro, C5 and Dessert Trends (except I heard that they are currently closed for renovations?). Not worried about price - simply looking for good food and the option to reserve ahead of time would also be nice. Thoughts on those three, or other restaurants that I should try instead? |

10 best things to eat in Fort Worth The food was much better before the big renovation. The portions are still tremendously huge, but the food doesn't taste as good. I love the novelty of "cheap five-star food in a gas station" - but it's not five-star food and it has even less of a gas station feel since the renovations, so there's no real reason to go back. |

I'm hopelessly addicted to the Bobbie sandwich at Capriottis in Plano. Real turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo on a bun - delicious for breakfast, lunch or dinner. |

TAKE-OUT NEAR CONVENTION CENTER? A third vote for the dumplings (don't get the rice bowls) at Kuai...and it's kinda fun walking around the underground network. You can get takeout from any restaurant in Dallas, even higher end ones which surprised me when I moved down here. In the West End, I'd recommend YO Ranch Steakhouse. www.yoranchsteakhouse.com Also, just a short walk down Lamar from the Convention Center is The Cedars Social - I love the pork belly and the fries, but you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. http://thecedarssocial.com/ Also the Omni just opened up right beside the convention center. There's a Bob's steakhouse located in there - apparently the best steak in DFW (although I don't think so, but it wins numerous polls every year). |

Good non-chain places to eat with groups in Addison, TX If by "good Texas food" you mean steak, then I think Chamberlains is a good bet in that area for steak as other posters have already mentioned. Rafain's (just north on the tollway) for a brazilian steakhouse (www.rafain.com )Truluck's is also good for steak and stone crab (www.trulucks) - it is a small-chain but I believe they aren't in SF. They usually have a piano player and while the prices might be a bit higher, it's not stuffy at all. Soho for live nightly jazz and a great tapas menu...very lively - a group your size could get a table in the "solarium" ...www.sohofoodandjazz.com But my top recommendation would have to be Buttons - classic southern comfort food - generous portions - casual and fun vibe...various entertainment on certain nights (http://www.buttonsrestaurant.com/) |

Moderately priced Birthday dinner near AAC??? or along 75 Well if you're thinking of dinner after the game now instead of before, then you've got a lot of options. If you're heading back up the 75, you could hit somewhere on Knox-Henderson - maybe Swig? Within walking distance of the AAC itself there isn't too much at your price point, except maybe Saint Ann. It's a pretty place but I found the food to be sub-par. However, they do have a special gameday menu which might appeal to you: http://saintanndallas.com/menu/game-day/ |

Another vote for Capital Grille...love that place. |

Need suggestion for Fiance's 50th birthday celebration with the girls??? Another vote for Painting with a Twist. And you can get food from a restaurant/caterer delivered and BYOB/W - they are great about all that stuff. Afternoon tea at Lavendou could be fun...not the absolute best food, but a fun experience nonetheless. In Addison, Soho Jazz Cafe for great tapas and live music every evening - lively place. Or Chamberlains Steakhouse for delicious food, plus there's a nice little cigar lounge in the back with live acts on most weekends. Or you could choose a restaurant in Watters Creek so that they can go shopping afterwards - the restaurant offerings are the usual chain offerings, but a couple of them have great patios. |

10 best things to eat in Fort Worth - Cream puffs from the Swiss Pastry Shop (now I'll have to try the rueben sandwich that Cricket mentioned) - Brioche from Black Rooster Bakery. Most of their breads are delicious, but the fresh brioche warm from the oven is heavenly - pancakes at Ol' South Pancake House - Beat The Yanks at Wiener Man (I know it's a truck, but it's really yummy....) |

bridal shower lunch in downtown dallas I second Zodiac - it's not too far from the Omni and great for a ladies lunch. The kind of place you'd want to go after getting pampered. If there's a small group of you then I'd also recommend The Cedars Social which is just a little further south from the Omni on Lamar Street. I'm not sure if they do weekday lunch, but they do have a good weekend brunch and great cocktails. It's a small room though so I wouldn't suggest this place if there's more than 6 of you. Salum is delicious, but not very close to the Omni. If you're willing to go all the way there, then you could consider Arcodoro & Pomodoro in Crescent Court which is closer (in uptown). How many of you are there and what's your price range? Weekend or weekday? |

Fun, Dancing and food? DFW! Ideas?? Glorias in Addison. The restaurant turns into a late-night dancefloor with a live band on weekends. I'm not sure if it's all ages though. Prophet Bar in Deep Ellum is typically all-ages every night. You can grab dinner at Il Cane Rosso and walk the block over to Prophet. They host different bands of various genres so check the calendar to see if the like the music that's playing. |

Has anyone ever tried the cream puffs at Swiss Pastry Shop in FW? Well they are absolutely freaking amazing! Airy (yet firm), moist pastry sandwiching fresh whipped (real) cream. I literally dream about them sometimes. So where can I find something equivalent on this side of the airport for the days that I don't want to drive out to FW? Any bakeries in Dallas/Plano/Frisco/Addison/etc that sell divine cream puffs? |

10 best things to eat in Dallas The popovers and strawberry butter at the Zodiac Room is on my list too. I don't think that place gets enough kudos. It's a beautiful room, service is attentive, and the food is delicious. |

Fort Worth - don't Texans eat breakfast?? The entrees change seasonally. Below is the description of the current offerings from their website. We tried the pot pie and the pork chop. The pot pie is more of a napolean with light phyllo pastry layers as opposed to the traditional chicken pot pie where the filling is encased in a puff pastry. The server mentioned that all of the veggies were fresh and hand-cut. The chicken was moist and plentiful as were the veggies, and the cream sauce was not overpowering. The porkchop was also good. I didn't realize that the cavatelli was supposed to be pumpkin flavoured till I pasted the menu just now - but it still tasted good. Although we didn't try the shrimp, the server mentioned that the dish did have a kick to it. Menu: Roasted Pork Loin Chop Louisiana Creole Shrimp |

Fort Worth - don't Texans eat breakfast?? I checked out Cat City this weekend and I wasn't blown away. It's not a greasy old-time diner nor a higher-end bistro that pays attention to execution....it was just all very blah. First of all, you can't order eggs with bacon/sausage and toast. There's no such item on the menu. And when we asked the waiter about getting just plain-old eggs and bacon, she said the closest option would be the kids meal (it is the only kids choice available btw for those of you considering going there with kids). The menu contains some omlettes, a few variations of bennys, and a few other breakfast staples. Both of our choices (two different bennys) were just decent. An order for a "side of biscuits" produced one biscuit cut in half....no gravy, no butter, no jam/preserves/jelly. The biscuits are neither fluffy nor warm. Oh, and my biggest pet peeve for restaurants that charge double digits for breakfast items - there was no freshly squeezed juice available! So, all in all I'd say Cat City isn't the worst for breakfast/brunch options in FW but it also isn't the best. I doubt I'll return. The previous weekend, I had a much better brunch at the Culinary School of FW. For $15, you get your choice of hot entree along with a buffet of salads, desserts, eggs and pastas (juice/coffee/tea included). They start you off with a refillable basket of warm breads - we had a cheddar chive biscuit, lemon poppyseed mini muffin and something else which I can't recall. The students do all the serving and cooking - the eggs were a bit of a miss, but the rest was quite good. There was a pumpkin mousse dessert topped with pistachios that blew my mind! I ate three cups of it - absolutely delicious! Definitely worth the price. Brunch is only offered every 2nd and 4th Sunday (or something like that) http://www.csftw.com/ |

Recommedations for Great Food/Great Atmosphere for Anniversary Dinner in Dallas area In Southlake, I'm a fan of Trulucks (stone crab season is on right now). Then there's the other usual suspects: Nana at top of Hilton Anatole, Stephen Pyles downtown in the Arts District (and you can take the free trolley ride before/after for a little tour of uptown), Fearings in the Ritz (local celeb chef), Lucia in the Bishop Arts district - top notch Italian food and very unfussy atmosphere (romantic neighbourhood to walk through in the evenings), and the grandaddy of them all - the French Room in the Adolphus It would be helpful if you let us know what type of cuisine you like, price point and atmosphere preference. |

The British Emporium in Grapevine might have some. You can call and ask. Last time I was there, they had a pretty good selection of UK snacks and other food items. I believe they also import stuff upon special request although it's probably too late to do that for Christmas. british-emporium.com |

Stephen Pyles for a Romantic Dinner? Oddly enough, I was just at SP last night - definitely a great choice for a romantic dinner. It's the kind of place where you can hold hands throughout dinner, and steal kisses over shared bites of delicious food. When/if you make a reservation, put in a request for a booth and also let them know what the special occasion is. The staff really take care of everyone. The French Room is certainly beautiful, but it isn't as cozy as SP. It's the restaurant you choose for a special occasion when you want to get very dressed up and be extravagant. Both score highly for food and service...so it just depends on what kind of romantic you're looking for. |

Grapevine / Southlake/ Midcities Area- Need a recommendation I agree with Chef Point - very unique. Another consideration is the Southlake Town Center area - great neighbourhood to walk around with a family. Plus it's stone crab claw season and nobody does it better than Truluck's. Might be a unique experience for the Cali folks. It is a bit pricy, but friendly service and they don't care what you wear or how old you are. http://trulucks.com/pages/southlake-r... ----- |

One night, November 28 in Dallas, downtown...what ya got? I agree with the earlier recs for Tei An and Stephen Pyles. Also, I'd add The Commissary to the list - it's in the same venue as Tei An so you could even hop from one to the other. |
|
|
Are we only talking chicken fried chicken or rotisserie chicken too? Because for rotisserie chicken I'm really enjoying Cowboy Chicken these days - I know it's a franchise - but just seeing those chickens turning over the wood makes me drool. It is so tender and moist and flavourful. |

A lovely solo wine/dinner experience Thanks for the post. I've never heard of this place before but sounds like a great pre-dinner spot when I'm in FW this weekend. |
|

Best option in FW Sundance Square? Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried to go to Nonna Tata about three times already - as you say - odd hours, and definitely not open on Saturday evenings. =( ----- |

Best option in FW Sundance Square? What's the best dining option in Sundance Square? I've tried Grace and thought the food was over-seasoned and definitely not worth the price. I've done Reata already. I'd like to avoid the chains that I can find elsewhere (like Ruths Chris and Del Frisco). Any thoughts on Taverna or Ferre? Are there any hidden gems in and around the area that I should try? Price isn't a factor...I'm just looking for some amazing food. |
