Has anyone used the buddha's hand fruit?

ooh, it's such a lovely find! I LOVE the buddha's hand citron!

I make it into a flavored vodka, much like the limoncello recipe (and, no offense, hangar one, the homemade one's much better). I wash it, peel the rind in strips, twist them strips to make sure the oils get loose, and drop in a vodka container (better to use one with a wide mouth so you can take out the strips before it gets bitter) and store it in a dark, cool place for about 3-4 weeks. It's SO awesome. Recently I've been putting it over ice with 7-up and yuzu juice form the japanese market.

I've also infused vodka this way with the etrog citron (only available after the jewish holiday of sukkot) and calamani fruit (available fresh seasonally at phillipino markets). Soon I want to try the skin and leaves of kaffir limes. or maybe kaffir limes with lemongrass and coconut milk. Mmm...

Trader Joe's Wine

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT listen when people tell you to get 2 buck chuck. Yuck. Do, however shop for wine at TJ's because they have some great stuff. Two of my favorite grat buy standbys are:

Kim Crawford's Sauvignon Blanc (get the latest vintage of this one, which is now the 2008). It's in the New Zealand section, should be about $14 bucks.

Concha Y Toro's Casillero Del Diablo Carmenere
(should be about 7.99, has an orange label on the top).

This is exciting! I will be going on a trip around the world in May '09, and will be looking for places to eat, so I'll check back here!

Are cast aluminum pots still produced anywhere?

All Clad has a line now of cast aluminum...they're promoting them by giving them away for free with $250 of $500 purchases. I just got one after I completed a registry...haven't used it yet so I don't know how good it is but geez is it lighter than my cast iron le creuset,,,

Best place to buy All-clad set

while we're talking all-clad, does anyone have a style preference? I've registered for my wedding for the stainless steel, but I don't like that I can't stick it in the dishwasher. What do you all think? Thanks!

Kosher Barbeque

I have to let everyone know, there is a new kosher barbeque joint that's just opened in Los Angeles, in the valley, and it's AMAZING! Phenomenal. No, really, it's that good. I keep kosher at home but not out of the house, so I can compare to non kosher barbeque and this is on par with the best (even some of the bbq I've had in Memphis).

It's called "Smokin" and it's at:
12514 Burbank Blvd.
Valley Village, CA 91607
(818) 752-6866

It's family owned and run and the family is SO nice. They serve their barbeque dry, meaning the dry rub and the flavor of the meat are not masked by the sauce. You put your own sauce on at the table, the way bbq SHOULD be. Everything's good but I recommend the beef back ribs, the brisket, and corn pudding, the cornbread...

Have fun!
