A La Carte at Sushi of Gari?

Hi CHers,

I'm going to sushi of Gari tonight for the first time, and while I've heard the omakase is wonderful, I'm just not looking to spend that much money. What are the best a la carte items on the menu? Anything I absolutely shouldn't miss? Thanks!

best coconut cake?

Thanks guys! I tried to order from Balthazar but they're only making the 10", so I called good enough to eat. Hope he likes it!

best coconut cake?

My brother's bday is saturday, and he loves coconut cake. Magnolia's version is pretty great, but I've gotten it for him in the past and I was wondering if there was any exceptional coconut cake in the city that I might be missing. Anyone know where to get the best coconut cake? Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I think we're heading to corton tonight - good choice?

Decadent tasting menu for THIS Monday?

My boyfriend's mom's birthday is this Monday, and she just decided that she'd like to go out to an extravagant meal with a tasting menu. No price limit. I know it's tough to get in somewhere with such short notice - anyone have any suggestions of what would be the most delicious?

hearth vs peasant vs apizz

Hi, my parents will be in town in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide between hearth, peasant, and apizz, or somewhere else in that price range. I've taken them to little owl, scarpetta, and babbo before, all of which theyve enjoyed. Also, my dad doesn't like any sort of asian food. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Aquavit suggestions?

I'm eating in the dining room at aquavit tonight, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or favorite dishes off the prix fixe menu. I'd appreciate any recs - thanks!

Pican - what to order?

Thanks for all your help! I'm going tonight and I'm really excited!

Pican - what to order?

I'm heading to Pican on Saturday, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for what to order. Would you absolutely recommend the fried chicken or is there another dish that stands out? Thanks!

EMP or Ko?

Thanks guys for all your help. I'm pretty heartbroken to give up my reservation at Ko, since a restaurant that is all about brilliant food is so appealing to me, but I think what's going to ultimately tip the scales is that my Ko reservation is this Monday night, and I have an exam on tuesday (I'm a graduate student) - not exactly ideal timing.

Does anyone want my Ko reservation? I'm not sure how to give it to someone else, but if there's a way I would love to give it to a fellow chowhounder.

EMP or Ko?

Thanks! This is a special bday dinner - my boyfriend is taking me to a restaurant of my choice. After agonizing over EMP vs. Le Bern, I finally chose EMP because I was really on the fence but I thought my boyfriend would enjoy the more varied menu at EMP.

It sounds like EMP might be the better choice for my romantic bday dinner, though I am very hesitant to give up this Ko reservation. The thing is, because I am a student and can't take myself to expensive dinners all the time, I really do need to pick the more enticing restaurant regardless of reservation policy, because I don't know when I'd have the chance to go to either one again.

Thank you so much for your help!

EMP or Ko?

I have a reservation for dinner at EMP on wednesday, but I just managed to get a res at Ko. Since I have to choose one, which should I pick?

Where to Eat Next?

What about Scarpetta? Its fantastic

What should I order at Aureole?

Not too late at all - i'm going tonight. Any suggestions? Thanks!

BDay dinner - help me pick a restaurant

Perfect link - thanks so much! And yes, I know, very very nice of the guy.

BDay dinner - help me pick a restaurant

My boyfriend wants to take me out to dinner for my birthday, and I can essentially pick anywhere in the city that isn't as outrageously expensive as, say, per se or masa. I was thinking either EMP or Le Bernardin - what do you think?

Need help! Pick 4 of these restaurants...

As a San Franciscan living in New York, I'd say don't bother going to Ping's seafood for dim sum. While I've personally never been, I've had dim sum at a few other well-regarded places in nyc, and I don't think anything even comes close to what we have in SF. On another note, I really enjoy Babbo, so if you can get a reservation I say go for it.

What should I order at Aureole?

I'm going to Aureole for dinner tomorrow night - has anyone been recently? Any suggestions for what to order? I would appreciate any thoughts!

what to eat at Perilla?

I also love the farro risotto side dish - its big too, great for sharing. I definitely recommend it.

Foodies need a fun (off the beat and path) restaurant to celebrate bday - HELP!!

Degustation is fantastic and definitely has a "different" feel - it might be a little tough for a group of 5 because its essentially only bar-style seats around the open kitchen.

Ivo and Lulu has a hole in the wall feeling, very low key, very reasonably priced, and delicious. Its also BYOB which could be a lot of fun for a bday.

pepolino tonight - need recs!

I'm going to dinner at pepolino tonight - any suggestions for what I should order? I pretty much like everything, so I'm open any and all suggestions. Thanks!

dinner near south st seaport?

I'm going to a concert next saturday on governor's island, so I'm looking for a delicious place for dinner with friends near south st seaport before the concert. Any ideas?

Martelli pasta (yellow bag) in Manhattan??

I'm not sure if they still do, but at one point they sold Martelli's at Dean and Deluca.

My father legitimately will not cook with anything but Martelli's because he thinks its so vastly superior, and I know he orders it from amazon.

Upstairs at Bouley - what to order?

Really? Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've heard good things about the burger - anything else?

Upstairs at Bouley - what to order?

I'm having dinner at Upstairs at Bouley tonight, and I'm looking for some recommendations for what to order, especially considering the eclectic nature of the menu. I pretty much like everything, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Little Owl Recs?

I'm having dinner at Little Owl tomorrow night - are there any dishes that I absolutely must have? I'd appreciate any recommendations! Thanks!

Restaurants near Columbia Presb. Hospital

This is great! I'm moving up there in a week, so I'm excited to see all these great food recs in the area. Thanks!

Parents in town for the weekend - where should we eat?

Is Bouley upstairs a better option?

Also, I was thinking we were gonna do Bar Boulud on sat night, but after reading the reviews in the new york magazine restaurant guide, I might reconsider. What do you think?

I'm also thinking about Market Table (if I can get a res) - not in the LES, but looks great.
