CO/UT Trip Report incl. Burger Battle results

Thanks for the report! I also like Smashburger and have been going to the one in Denver (on Colorado blvd) almost since it opened. The New Belgium tasting and tour is great! Breakfast and burgers sounds like the perfect road trip!

Seafood in Denver/Littleton

I would suggest Cherry Crest Seafood in Littleton. Smaller casual place. Might be a little far Littleton wise though.

Pre-Dinner cocktail near Mizuna

Assuming you want walking distance? Not that many choices. Only three I can think of would be Gov Park, Funky Bhudda and Lalas pizza and wine bar a block away. Not sure how crowded Lalas is on a Saturday evening.

http://www.lalaswinebar.com/Site/Home.html

Funky Bhudda lounge - near 8th and Lincoln, Just down from Le Central. Only a few blocks. I would say walking disance. Two blocks West and one block up (north- same direction as traffic - past Turin bikes on the corner). Could park in-between at one of the lots on Lincoln. Early Sat should be pretty quiet and able to get a seat on the roof patio or a nice booth.

Tasty breakfast near Hyatt Denver Convention Center??

Probably closest- a few blocks away (downtown Denver location 16th and Court):

http://www.delectableegg.com/locations.html

Sams #3 (downtown location)
a little farther but still close:

http://samsno3.com/

Both good. Delectable Egg a little more traditional. Sams #3 huge menu lots of green chili items.

Both of these are easy walking distance. "Snooze" is probably most peoples downtown favorites on this board. Maybe a mile away? I would not really descibe as walking distance.

WHERE TO EAT IN DENVER, CO

I would add Deluxe on South Broadway and Mizuna.

Finding a butter lamb in the Denver area?

How about

www.buttersculptures.com

You really can find everything on the internet. Although, I can't tell if they actually sell the already completed butter lamb that you seek. Maybe just the mold. But how hard could it be to put butter in a mold? I would like to try with cream cheese.

2008 Denver, CO Ethnic Restaurant Reviews By ALEDM

Thanks! Cool report! I will keep as well. Seem like you miised some of the Mexican tanqueria places like El Taco De Mexico. Just an observation.

Need some Denver Recommendations

I would vote for Deluxe - it is a great date place in a cool neighborhood. Trust me. I think its the leopard print seating. 9th Door not too bad either but not as intimate and can be loud. Just my two cents. Make reservations though Deluxe is small. Nothing against Fruition or Rioja as both have great food. Fruition a little crowded together if you want privacy. Rioja would be a good choice. In Larimer Square which is nice. Yea. These are all pretty well known Not sure what to do about that.

Dining alone in Denver?

I agree that the stigma is mostly self-imposed and I have never been treated badly, but I do feel more comfortable eating at a bar or community table then at a table by myself. I would go with 9th Door, Rioja, Vesta as they have nice bar areas and are downtown if location is in issue.

Interestingly Mark Tarbell now has 2 Denver restaurants. Hopefully a Chowhounder will review the new one "Mark & Isabellas" soon.

HELP! Denver, CO. Grilled Elote & Esquites

I think the authentic debate is always interesting. As people have pointed out above, I am never sure there is really ever an definition of "authentic" that anyone could agree on. For example, I am not sure you can seperate Vietnemese food from their French influences or Mexican food from the Spanish. Authentic is defined as much by time as place. Not to mention that authentic in most countries, especially one as big and diverse as Mexico, changes from state to state and region to region. What is authentic in Baja is not even served in Mexico City. The best definition of authentic I have read is: What my grandmother cooks is authentic, what yours cooks is not.

Either way I think there is a lot of great "Mexican" food in Colorado. Bennys! haha.

Fun/casual dins near the Ogden Theater, Denver

Good to very good (imho or whatever the saying is) Mexican some of which is close to authentic, along with an impressive tequila selection and good margaritas. Moderate prices and great happy hour deals make this my go to place on Colfax when going Bluebird theatre concerts. Its not too far from the Odgen- 1-2 miles right down Colfax.

I am sure there are places close to Odgen I am kind of drawing a blank as far as dining- maybe some of the places on upper 17th- past Park Avenue like the new brew pub (Mountain Sun I think?), Parallel 17- Vietnamese, or that small Italian place, or Limon for Peruvian. None of these are walking distance but a little closer then Mezcal. There is also Shells and Sauce in upper Park Hill - never been but have heard good things. I guess I am not totally drawing a blank. Limon would be a good choice if you like Peruvian food.

I know they have some vegatarian options.

Buying local foods year-round? (Denver)

Wondering what winter crops are produced in Washington state? Can you grow produce year round? I really have no idea. I kind of assumed during the winter produce primarily came from Cali, Florida or international?

Private Dining Room in Denver for 80th birthday celebration

One place that comes to mind is a Denver classic - Strings

http://www.stringsrestaurant.com

They have a well know local chef who recently returned to the area - Aaron Whitcomb. Also I think not too far from Arapaphoe and 25th- they are on 17th. I know they have at least one private room. Not sure on size.

I am sure people will have other suggestions. That one came to mind. I am not real familiar with which places have private rooms or at least secluded areas.

Maybe Kevin Taylor or Palace Arms in the Brown Palace? On the more expensive end though,

Panzanos - A dinner in the wine cellar would be cool

ISO casual restaurants in Broomfield, CO

Imagine what the person who describes Broomfield as an "upscale suburb" must think of the rest of the metero area? Anyhoo I have enjoyed my meals at Bloom although I have not been in a while. I read Flatirons is going to re-build the outdoor area and Bloom is going to re-locate. I would probably drive the extra 15 minutes to Boulder. Although I am sure there are probably some great undiscovered ethnic places in Broomfield waiting to be to written about in Chowhound.

ISO: good clams in Denver?

Claire- oysters or mussels? butt good either way.

Maybe Cherry Crest Seafood in Littleton?

Denver Thursday Late Dinner/Friday lunch?

While Sam's #3 is diner like, it closes at 10pm weekdays. I believe there was a thread on late night downtown denver dining not too long ago and during the week the options are somewhat limited. Agree with Claire on her suggestions. Wazees might be a good bet. Also maybe Wynkoop- but also not sure if they have a limited menu after a certain time.

http://www.wynkoop.com/

Denver- Bakery

That Food Network guy opened a place not too far from Downtown - a couple of miles up 17th I believe:
http://www.dbardesserts.com/

Also, not sure if you were looking for bread but Denver Bread company is not too far away from downtown as well:

A few short Boulder reviews

Thanks for the report. I am not really a Med fan but have enjoyed Himalaya's. Have not tried Bimbamboos. I guess the owners have hopes of turning it into a quick casual empire. I would ask how you liked the Peak (I think Old Stage gets steaper every year!) but it is not food related unless you would like to comment on the post race feed (I mostly enjoyed the watermelon and Avery beer.)

Help needed for LoDo/South Denver dinner

Just to clarify - are you looking for a place in LoDo (lower downtown) OR South Denver - i.e. the Denver Tech Center? They are fairly far apart so I just want to make sure you are asking for the right area. I also assume you have a car so places nearby LoDo or Tech Center should be ok? The closed on Sunday is a pain.

Marco's Coal Fired Pizzeria Denver Colorado

Not to get off subject, but if they, or any pizza place, uses a wood burning stove then on high pollution days when wood burning is supposed to be illegal do they keep cooking? Or do they have some sort of pollution control device? Just curious. I bet this has come up in California.

Downtown Denver on Saturday

2 places come to mind for lunch:

Osteria Marco and Wynkoop Brewpub. Both easy walking distance.

Downtown Denver on Saturday

Breakfast:
Snooze - probably best place- I think its within a mile - edge of downtown on the Eastside (it can also be crowded on the weekends.)

Also Sams #3 and Dixons are very close by and good choices:

Favorite Restaurant In Denver?

Deluxe

Denver--request for some specifics

For game I would go to Buckhorn Exchange. A short cab, or lightrail ride from downtown (it would be a long walk but doable). I have not been in a while and usually got the bison. Maybe others can comment on the game.

Denver: Let's talk Beatrice & Woodsley

No offense but if you fear young urban professionals probably a place called "Beatrice and Woodsley" in a fairly trendy part of an uran area is not for you. To avoid this fear of yuppification I suggest you try establishments that are not in an urban area and are geared towards older non-professionals. Alas, that is not Central Denver.

I look foward to trying B&W. I am also curious about Delite the new place from Deluxe.

best foodie meal for anniversary in Denver

For contemporary American I would recommend Deluxe on South Broadway (5 minutes from downtown). I would describe as a little more funky and intimate/sexy then some of the places mentioned above (although you can't go wrong with Mizuna or Fruition.) Opus is more expensive then then the others and farther from downtown if that is a concern.

Sat night in Denver,CO

http://www.chowhound.com/topics/454177

Here is one thread. Officially Restaurant Week goes through Friday the 29th, but Saturday night is usually busy of course. Might think about Tamayo- they are fairly large.

Where to Dine in Denver (only 1 night)

I have yet to make it to Del Friscos but I think it is similiar to the other high end steak places.

(FYI - I believe there is only one Trail Dust in Denver now- the one on Westminster closed last year)

Where to Dine in Denver (only 1 night)

Will you be downtown/ Central Denver area or does location matter? I can't think of too many places where a tie or sport coat is required or you would feel out of place if you are not wearing one.

All the big steak chains are here and you can't go wrong with Capital Grill or The Palm if price is not too much of a concern. A great local steakhouse (IMO) is Elways- there is now one downtown and the original is in Cherry Creek area. If you are looking for a more moderate steak place The Keg and Chophouse are near Coors Field downtown. For seafood I would reccomend Jax or Oceanaire.
