So excited to try Island Creek Oyster Bar

Ok...I am going to do it! I will call today and make reservations for early dinner.

So excited to try Island Creek Oyster Bar

Well, I can recommend the Clam Box. Maybe we will just go to Neptune. We have not been disappointed any time we have gone there.

Still have to get a lot of them!

This one seems to see at a more normal quantity:

Darnit!!! Do you like Neptune Oyster's fried clams? Trying to see if we just have different tastes for clams. :)

So excited to try Island Creek Oyster Bar

We will be in Boston next Friday staying over for an early flight out on Saturday and this restaurant is on our agenda!! Planning on heading over around the time they open. That will hopefully work out in getting in and getting us back into our hotel at a decent hour for that early morning alarm (4am!!!!).

We are not raw oyster eaters but the reviews of the fried clams among other items sound fantastic!!

Kennebunkport in March

Bandaloop is actually on Cross Street. It's up in back off of Ocean Ave. I went there twice last week while in Kennebunkport for a conference. Very cool vibe and I really enjoyed the drinks/apps. I did not have an entree either time.

The best sfogliatelle in the North End?

When we stay in the city our stop on Sunday morning before we head home (western MA) is to Maria's so I can pick up warm sfogliatelle. Pure bliss.

Prime in Ogunquit, ME

I did not have any issues with the price of our drinks and meal.

Prime in Ogunquit, ME

I am probably too late to this post but we had dinner there while on vacation late in July and it was fantastic! Very cool bar and so nicely decorated. I have the beet/goat cheese salad-for me it was to die for. I love beets and rarely have them at home as I am the only one who likes them. I had the twice baked potato which also had bacon in it. I had the skirt steak (I think that was it) and it was yummy with their steak sauce. Overall a really nice meal.

Best Blueberry Pie I've had in 35 years!

Holly Hobby!! I wore out my google search on that one. Nothing more evil than lying about a pie shop.

Best Blueberry Pie I've had in 35 years!

Noooo do not tease me. I want a Pie Lady near me!! I love the PIe Lady on Rte 3 in Bar Harbor. I make a decent pie but sometimes I am not in the mood and I just want a good pie!! I wish I could teleport myself :)

Big E 2010 -- Fair Food Highlights

We usually go on a Saturday but get there when it opens and leave by 2ish. The lines have never been an issue. The only time it can get crowded is in the state houses.

We eat all willynilly-whatever grabs our attention. We do not have a plan-not always a good thing.

Breakfast near Copley Square and pizza/italian?

There is also Trident Bookstore.at 338 Newbury St for breakfast which is not a horrible walk from there. Now I have not eaten there but have seen some decent reviews.

Neptune Oyster - Best Dishes

I really like the Clam Box and we will make the drive there in the Summer to get some clams and have always enjoyed them.. And, until I had the clams at Neptune, the Clam Box was #1 for me. But, I think Neptune's are better. Neptune's breading/batter is so light, not greasy at all and the clams are small and sweet.

Neptune Oyster - Best Dishes

Adding a 4th to the fried clams. I really like the clam chowder too but I am in the 'I do not clam chowder you can stand up your spoon in' camp.

The Stage, Keene NH, very disappointing

As a long time resident of Keene up until 3 years ago I find the Bloody Mary the high point of the Stage's breakfast. I can spend 1/2 the $ and go to Timoleons and get the same, if not better, breakfast. Or drive 10 minutes and go to Audrey's (I think it is still open) in Marlborough NH.

Central Mass

I have noticed this since the board change too. I feel like we do not fit any of the categories now.

Valentine's Day: the madness begins

We will be heading into Boston next weekend. Will pretend it's the 14th. Neptune Oyster for lunch!!

Conte in Orange

I knew this could not be Orange MA but had to really make sure :(

What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]

I am replying to my own post. Fresh herbs. As a novice cook I rarely used fresh herbs but once I figured that out -what difference.

What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]

I read many years ago to mash your potatoes with nothing in them first (that way you can see how 'wet' they are), then add the butter, then add WARM milk. Probably many already knew this but this tip read probably over 10 years ago has made my mashed potatoes always fantastic!! Prior to this I would put in the butter, slosh in some cold milk and mash away-I wondered why they were always gluey and either runny or stiff.

What's the first thing you ate/cooked in 2010?

Eggs, bacon, toast. Have to start off the New Year with breakfast. Then for lunch I made NE Clam Chowder. Although I like mine more brothy this batch could have been a bit thicker...wondering if I can thicken it up a bit when I reheat.

Why are my chocolate chip cookies so flat?

Man-that sounds too complicated. I use the exact recipe from the bag of the semisweet chips and have had no issues with spreading. I do not think cooking should be this complicted.

Why are my chocolate chip cookies so flat?

I never chill my dough and mine come out like your Moms (it sounds like). I use a hand mixer-not my kitchen aid-what does your Mom use? I am thinking you are creaming the sugar/butter too long.

Keeping Mashed Potatoes Warm w/Slow Cooker

I also used the crock pot this Thanksgiving for the first time to keep the mashed potatoes warm and it worked great (in fact they were HOT even on the warm setting). I made them like I normally do and then put them in. Stirred them occasionally.

Pioneer Woman's The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake Ever

I made it not too long ago for a book club get together. It was good but not sure about best ever. I think it would be fine for a potluck.

Williams Sonoma Hot chocolate???

I really like it even though it is expensive!! My sis bought it as part of Christmas gift for me a couple of years ago and I just picked up another tin of it this year. It's easy and tasty when I have a craving for hot chocolate.

what exactly is a spoon roast & how do I cook it?

I do not sear mine first. I find this roast to be a good for an oven roast-tender and flavorful. I just 'discovered' this roast recently. Whole Foods sells them a lot.

Help me understand Italian food in New Hampshire (and northern New England)...please?

I guess I do not think that every place should have the same foods. There should be regional differences and just because it does not appeal to you does not mean it does not appeal to others. I find this thread to be a bit demeaning to those of us who grew iup n New Hampshire and the surrounding area. Yep, those silly New Hampshire natives-no taste for good food at all. Oh well.

Bourdain in Rockland, Maine area in January?

Ooops-did not notice that.
