Best Philly Cheesesteak in Los Angeles Area???

Mardie D's used to be connected to 14 below/acting as their grill. Markie D's only had wine and beer license while 14 below had a full bar.
I think it changed names/owners in the past 2 years but the philly cheesesteaks have remained exactly the same.

Best Philly Cheesesteak in Los Angeles Area???

I would suggest the Over Under bar on 14th and Santa Monica in Santa Monica. It used to be called Markie D's (known for their authentic Philly's sans the Whiz)
Well the recipe hasn't changed at Over Under, its my favorite in LA.

Mr. Chow

I know this place gets a lot of hate from the board but I thought I'd post a topic about it since I haven't seen anything posted lately.
I've never eaten @ Mr Chow but I have a client taking me and a friend to dinner here and paying the tab.

If you didn't have to pay for your meal here, what would your thoughts on eating at Mr Chow be?

Any entrees you would recommend?
There is no menu listed online and of course they won't fax me one...

Any imput would be appreciated ;)

trendy mexican

I second the Mexicali suggestion. I think the food is great and its usually busy with a lot of trendy people there.
They also take reservations which is great for groups.

BRIDGE restaurant and lounge

I have to agree with you.
I went there in Mid May (granted they had not been open all that long - I realize that they were still working out kinks)
Had a reservation and waited 1 hour before seated. Hostess was rude and everything you said.
We waited at the bar & the bartenders were doing their best to please everyone that was hungry and cranky so they were giving out free shots and mojitos to us (doesnt help when you're STARVING!)
Our server was great and very apologetic for the wait.
Food was just OK. I ordered the gnocchi - the portions were EXTREMELY small and lacked flavor and had a weird consistency to it! Left me wishing I had ordered TWO dinners.
My friend ordered the NY Steak which was pretty good, by far the best thing anyone ordered at our table. Wine was excellent.
In the end I felt like the quality wasn't that great adn I'm still figuring out what type of restaurant they are trying to be.
I was anxious to dine here since I knew they are part of the Koi restaurant group and Koi is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Needless to say Bridge was disappointing.
I'm not sure I'll go back.

Amsterdam - need help narrowing down!

A great restaurant they have opened recently in Amsterdam is called Wagamama. They have a few locations and its very interesting. Asian fusion, noodles, ramen and other things.
Very interesting flavors as well.
I first went to Wagamama in London and have tried many places out in Los Angeles and can't find anything remotely like it. They have Wagamama all over Europe and even australia.
Check out the website www.wagamama.com

Tapas place in OC?

I have always REALLY enjoyed the restaurant Motif @ the St Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point.
It can be pricey and its not traditional tapas but more of a "small plates" restaurant. Persian Kabobs, filet diane, vietnamese spring rolls, a variety of different foods and flavors. Also have a great wine selection and offer flights.

Another desperate plea for fancy B-DAY DINNER REC!

What about Koi?
Its fantastic. Can be a little bit pricey but I have never had a bad meal here. Everyone I have taken has been extremely impressed. Its a great scene, celeb watching, and the food is great. www.koirestaurant.com
Also, Ago Restaurant. Co-owned by Robert Dinero
Again, I bring people here all the time and have never gone wrong. Make sure you sit in the main dining room and get a table away from the bar (or people will be bumping into you during dinner) www.agorestaurant.com

Mexican in the Valley

Carrillo's is excellent! IF you ever have a party and need to bring food order up a dozen or so of their tamales you can't go wrong!
As for mexican with a full bar that is clean;
I'm a huge fan of mexicali. You can call ahead with reservations and you are seated very quick. Food is also ready very shortly after you order it. Very good.
Stay away from Casa Vega - its pure slop on a plate.
Los Toros is good mexican food but its more of a valley hang out for Chatsworth alumni looking to relive their high school years. I'm guilty, I go there lol.
Senor Fred is very good although not real traditional and is pretty pricey.

a REAL Philly Cheesesteak

You are correct the new name is Over Under. Its the same recipe, same lean thinly sliced beef, and bread as it was before at Markie D's. I just had one yesterday and it was DEEEELISH! I love my Philly Cheesesteaks and this place is the best I have found outside of Pats or Geno's in Philly.
