Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, season two
Might well be that it's easier for a celebrity like Jamie to get some attention in West Virginia as opposed to LA, where celebrities are a dime a dozen.
looking for a sit down dim sum place in chinatown
I also really like City View. I like that it has better ambiance than some of the other Chinatown dim sum restaurants.

Looking for a Chinese restaurant with really great authentic Chinese food AND really great Americanized Chinese food.
I think R&G Lounge would also fit the bill. I've been there many times for lunch ordering from the Americanized lunch specials as well as for Cantonese seafood dinners and I've found it all to be very good.
Just pointing this out about Guy Fieri...
I've definitely seen Gordon Ramsay use a garlic press on several occasions to crush his garlic.
Cheftestants announced for THE NEXT IRON CHEF AMERICA
What an underwhelming lineup. And how does Spike manage to keep getting on TV?
Heston's mission impossible
The third one for British Airways was my favorite so far by far, IMHO. So I think you're missing out if you've stopped watching.
"Puritan Chefs" in the NYT
Why would anyone need to take an espresso "to go" when it takes no more than a few sips to finish a shot?
"Puritan Chefs" in the NYT
I don't see a problem with this. The chefs have every right to determine how to best run their restaurant as long as they're not breaking any laws, and diners have the choice whether or not to patronize those restaurants.
Schezuan and Hunan in SF
I've also had good Sichuan food at Panda Country Kitchen.

Hell's Kitchen four chefs compete -- spoilers! Donkeys! Fusion!
Season 2's finale pitted two females (Heather and Virginia) against each other.
Have you ever been surprised by a TV "celebrity" chef?
Not a huge fan of Rachel Ray, but I went to one of her book signings to get one of her books signed for my sister. She couldn't have been nicer or more gracious. Plus, she had the firmest handshake that I had ever felt. It was like shaking hands with a Terminator.
Rank the Top Chef winners
I think there are two reasons for people putting Harold up that high
1) His restaurant, from all signs, seem to be doing very well, putting out solid food, and generally getting very good reviews. Maybe it's not fair to others to also factor in how their careers have progressed after the show, but Harold seems to have taken full advantage of winning Top Chef.
2) He was a chill no-drama kind of guy during the show. He was always cool and laid back and it was refreshing to see someone like that on TV when most reality TV shows cast for maximum drama. So I think his personality also bumped him up the list.
Restaurant Websites- Why?
Well... kind of. Apple is still not including flash in its iPhone/iPad/iPod touch products. What they are doing is allowing Adobe's Flash to iPhone app program for creating standalone iPhone apps.
Lunch near Van Ness & Market?
Arlequin Cafe right next to Absinthe is a really good lunch place.
Iron Chef America - Battle Cauliflower
Wasn't there an original Iron Chef episode just like this? IIRC it was also a challenger that went at it alone and the Iron Chef (Sakai I believe) also booted his sous chefs.
Top Chef Masters 2 Ep. #7 - 05/19/10 (Spoilers)
And of course Kelly also said that USC would be playing the Stanford Cardinals when it's just Cardinal - no S.
Top Chef Masters 2 Ep. #6 - 05/12/10 (Spoilers)
IIRC, I saw him on "Chef du Jour" a couple of times. I also remember him being a guest on Ming Tsai's "East Meets West" show.
Michael Ruhlman fired for speaking out against processed food
I think the difference is that Ruhlman is not representing his recipe as healthy eating, while Kraft is dressing up junk food with a misleading with the misleading "Snackwell" brand to try and convince consumers that what they are selling is healthy when it actually isn't.
CNN: "How to drive your waiter crazy"
AFAIK bad tippers are not yet a protected class, so I don't see how anyone has the right to sue a restaurant for denying them service because they were bad tippers unless they can prove that the real reason for denying them service was due to them belonging to one of the legally protected classes.
Is anyone else appalled by "Worst Cooks in America?"
Good thing they didn't go with the original UK series title of "Kitchen Criminals" then.
New York Chef to Compete at Bocuse-D'or
I don't know whether Kevin had the skills to win, but I think saying that he couldn't cut it is a bit harsh. Kevin was the fan favorite last season on TC, so I am assuming that he's seen a massive rise in business for his restaurant. Add to that all of the promotional appearances he must also be making outside of his restaurant and it's not hard to see why he thinks that he just doesn't have time right now to seriously commit to training for the competition.
Iron chef - Flay vs. Smith
OTOH, remember that in the original Japanese Iron Chef they also had some battles pitting "amateur" cooks against the Iron Chefs, and sometimes the "amateurs" even won. For example, the female cooking personality that beat Iron Chef Chin in battle potatoes, or the world champion sommelier that beat Kobe in a tuna(?) battle.
Last Restaurant Standing-Jan 26 spoilers
That was my thoughts exactly. Doesn't the army generally train their soldiers to think on their feet and to cope with unexpected problems that may crop up?
I felt bad for both of them. For someone with no restaurant experience Barney seems a natural at the front of the house, and of course Badger who seemed to be a very solid chef apart from his mishap with the beef broth reduction in the very first episode
some random thoughts on the f word finale [spoilers, moved from UK]
Well I thought Lasan should've never even made the finale over the Argentinean steak house in the first place.
Worst Cooks in America
The seafood stew didn't seem too complicated. Outside of them putting together a garden salad, I can't really imagine anything easier for them to start out with.
"The Restaurant" or "Last Restaurant Standing" (as Americans call it)
Raymond Blanc has posted a blog entry on his website explaining his reasoning for picking the winner:
http://raymondblanc.com/blogs/the-restaurant-series-3-winners-losers.aspx
In it, he states that "Chris faltered at the last hurdle - it was the final" without explaining himself. But surely Chris serving a complete menu of well-cooked dishes can't possibly be considered to have faltered given that he completely outclassed J.J. in the kitchen?
"The Restaurant" or "Last Restaurant Standing" (as Americans call it)
The only thing I could think about after J.J.'s attempt at "risotto" was that Gordon Ramsay would've called him a donkey and kicked him out of the kitchen. Maybe that's one of the reasons why Gordon Ramsay, as much of a famewhore as he might be, still has more Michelin stars than Raymond Blanc.
"The Restaurant" or "Last Restaurant Standing" (as Americans call it)
What a complete farce.
Chris and Nate competently served all of their courses. Their only hiccup in the kitchen was serving tepid soup, and that was mostly down to the delay in starting dinner. Chris mentioned that he had never made souffle either and he seemed to do a competent job.
James and J.J. made risotto into wallpaper paste and completely screwed up the souffle. I'll even give their oversized hors d'oeuvres a pass since it seemed like it was relatively tasty. And even when they did well with the roast beef, it required basically very little technical skill besides sticking a piece of beef in the oven and checking its internal temperature with a meat thermometer.
I'll concede that James was probably better front of the house than Nathan, but it seemed like a fairly marginal edge in the final episode, and it didn't even begin to make up the gulf in the quality of cooking coming out of the two kitchens.
And James and J.J. wins because, once again, they used cocktails as a crutch to mask their incompetence in the kitchen??? Are Sarah and David planning on opening up a nightclub instead of a restaurant?
I am completely disgusted by the result
"The Restaurant" or "Last Restaurant Standing" (as Americans call it)
I was totally shocked when Raymond announced his decision. In the last two seasons, Raymond seemed to be biased towards couples with a very strong cook running the kitchen, so it was shocking to have him keep JJ and James' restaurant open week after week. If I were a betting man at the start of the series, I would've bet my money on them not lasting more than 2 weeks!
It's also really shocking how weak the teams are this series. Of course, it doesn't help when the two most well-rounded teams basically imploded, thus leaving a team that has no idea how to run the kitchen, and a team that has no idea how to run the front of the house.
I feel sorry for Sarah and David that they're going to be investing their money with either of the two remaining teams.
