Chez Ma Grosse Truie Chérie dry-ages their beef as well. In fact, they plan to open an adjoining room in their complex modeled as a steak house.

I have purchased short ribs (with the bone in) at Boucherie Fairmount on St. Laurent. It is usually not on display so you may have to ask and he will butcher some for you.

You are actually not that far from Toque. Seeing as it would only be desert it shouldn't break the bank. A bit further into old montreal is le club chasse et peche which features some of the finest deserts Montreal has to offer.

Octopus main course
The octopus dish at Kaza Maza is simply superb. It is braised and grilled so it might not be exactly what you are looking for. However, the sister restaurant Damas does have a grilled octopus. I haven't had it, yet, but but you might wish to taste it.

I would definitely recommend a5p above Cocagne. In terms of inventiveness, execution of the cuisine and inventiveness of the wine list.

Montreal - Restaurant this Saturday night
I recently had an excellent meal at Jun-i. Which perhaps can be thought of as a fusion of Japanese / French cuisine. Japanese flavour profiles often executed using french techniques. Two of the standout dishes were: a green tea smoked salmon (smoked in house with salmon flown from B.C) with a deep fired egg that is amazing in its consistency/texture and a scallop flan with a sweet shrimp sauce that is perhaps even better.

Choice is definitely limited as reservations will be difficult at this point.
One restaurant to consider is DNA which features sophisticated cuisine with an artisanal treatment of ingredients. Another is Europea which is consistently good in their creativity and could probably structure a tasting menu around your friends constraints. Also, if you thought that L'Express sounded good than Lemeac is better, though neither offer more than a few seafood options.
bavette, minute steak, flank steak, garde manger
At least in NYC I believe that bavette is called tri-tip steak. Descriptive in that it is roughly triangular in shape and the tip of the sirloin. Incidentally, there was an article in the NY Times a few weeks back singing the praises of this particular cut.
As for the bavette at Garde Manger, I found it excellent and think they prepare one of the best in the city.
Greek for two..
For a modern take on Greek cuisine I would suggest adding Tasso Bar a Mezze, www.tassobaramezze.com, to your list.

Caffè in Gamba is also excellent and has a downtown location at Place Ville Marie, just inside the entrance at Cathcart and University.

Unfortunately, Provisions has closed due to "circumstances beyond their control". It seems that there are no plans to reopen.

I would recommend Au Cinquième Péché; however, if the key word is traditional Lemeac might be more to your liking.

One place you might wish to consider is Provisions. (514.844.9656). Their evening table d'Hote is $20-$25. The food has a simple elegance to it and is a great QPR.
Plus, the size is about right, so I can imagine them willing to reserve the whole place for a private event.
Recommendations for a pre-symphony dinner near Place des Arts?
If you are looking to splurge I would recommend Pullman (a wine bar with tapas like food).
If price is a consideration I would highly recommend Provisions on St-Laurent which offers awesome bang for the buck.

Yes to a good wine, but not an outstanding one. Especially, a wine that pairs well with game as it figure sprominently on the menu.
