Good food & atmosphere for b'day party Fri - SFV or Burbank

I think that Granville in Burbank is a decent choice. Fun atmosphere and decent price point. The food is Americana Comfort food and it is done fairly well (I don't think that you are going to find decent sushi, good Chinese or fondue at $20/head). They take reservations. I would think that it would be the perfect spot for a Birthday party. Happy birthday.

La Super Rica/ Santa Barbara

I always get the #16 La Super Rica Especial and something off of the daily specials menu - like sopes, or pozole, or a tamale, whatever they happen to have that day.

La Super Rica/ Santa Barbara

Doesn't hurt that it is one of Mario Batali's favorite restaurants either. He discovered it while working at the Biltmore in Montecito. As a UCSB alum it is on my all time fav list.

Thoughts on Best Burger in LA?

Island burgers are good, but I was alarmed to discover that the burger I enjoyed topped out at approximately 1600 calories (from Island's website). While I am not usually calorie counting when eating out, and certainily not while ordering a burger, 1600 cal in one burger is a lot. Add in some fries (which are good at Islands) and you are well over 2000 calories for one meal. 1600 calories equals about 2.5 Double Doubles. Yikes!

Sandwiches by Connal - Pasadena

I have always thought that Connals was overrated. Decent - but overrated - especially for the price. When ever I am in that part of town I always opt for Buritto Express - which is about a block east of Connals. Not the same style of food obviously, but one of my favorite places in LA.

Do you know Café Beaujolais / Eagle Rock

I love Cafe Beaujolais for exactly what it is - an unpretentious good French Bistro. The wait staff is great. It is generally loud so be forewarned. Things not to be missed in my opinion are the escargot, the Roquefort and endive salad, the onion soup, the steak frite, the halibut, the sole almandine, and the rack of lamb. Not all at once of course.

For desert - they have a nice array that they will bring by on a tray and show you but once they said the magic word - profiteroles - that was it. Not to be missed (and I am not a desert person). Perfect end to a great meal in a warm place. Enjoy.

Best fish market to buy black cod?

The only problem with Mitsuwa is that it is hit and miss. Sometimes they have it and sometime they don't. No way to predict you just have to show up.
