BF's Bday - South Bay looking for something new/fun
Iccho?! My favorite place to go after work at 12:30 at night most weeks. Great scuzzy space, awesome sake, and pretty off the wall food most times. Glad to hear it.

Admiral Risty's? Really? It's fine, but hardly fun or exciting. There are so many down-to-earth ethnic restaurants in the area like Musha and Izakaya Ishin. Those are going to be fun, different, and something to talk about
Palm Desert Eats for the Weekend...
My family and I are going to Palm Desert through Tuesday on a vacation, because we didn't get a chance to celebrate the holidays this year. We're in need of some recommendations on where we should go. Any style of cuisine is great, price is not really a problem, but would like to keep it reasonably close to Palm Desert. Willing to drive into Palm Springs though. Thanks much.
The Spotted Pig Chef in LA? Huh?
LA chowhounder here... So I was at Bar Marmont on Sunset Blvd. last night with some friends and the nice waiter told us that the chef had left The Spotted Pig in NY to get this place up and running after its renovation. He said the chef's name is Carolyn (Caroline?), but after a little research the only name I found for The Spotted Pig was April Bloomfield. Anyone know what is going on? Was she the sous-chef? Chef de cuisine? I'm a little confused. Thanks much.
LA Chowhounder on Burgers
So I just moved here from New York in May...went to school at NYU. Anyway, there has been a long thread recently on the LA boards about the Best Burger in Los Angeles. The choices are all over the place, but unfortunately in my opinion, none are as good as some of the burgers I remember in NY.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts as to the best burger in new york. I know Bruni shared his own thoughts recently, and hopefully there wasn't a big post about this recently already. Thanks.
Best Burger in LA?
I am happy to report that Bar Marmont has reopened, and the construction seems to have been minimal. But it looks great and everything about it oozes cool.
Best Burger in LA?
Went to Sunset Beach last night to try the kobe beef burger stuffed with lobster chunks. Not bad...not as good as what I was hoping for. The burger is charred on the outside, so it has a rubbery texture, plus the lobster wasn't as smooth as I was expecting, so it adds to the rubberiness. Fries were the best part, covered in garlic and herbs. Great portion with real lobster, but overcooked Kobe makes it meaningless, especially at $28.
Got a drank at Bar Marmont afterwards, and the burger there looked awesome. Buttery brioche bun...with a large serving of fries and all the fixins.
Chez Allez at Night
I don't know if anyone is familiar with this pretty little cafe in Malaga Cove Plaza in Palos Verdes, but it just opened at night. This is one of the most beautiful, romantic places I've seen in awhile and the food is awesome. Really great, fresh tapas. Went there on a Thursday night when they were only open once a week. Now, they are going Tuesday-Saturday. Candlelight and really good cheeses...what more do you want?
