Wine shop with good sherry selection in Albuquerque or Santa Fe?

Hope you find a good sherry there for your dad. The owner is always helpful.

In response to the suggestion to try eating at La Boca in Santa Fe - Albuquerque now has Mas Tapas y Vino at the Hotel Andaluz (downtown) with chef, James Caruso - the same chef/owner of La Boca and Taberna in Santa Fe. Delicious tapas, Spanish food and wine. Can be very busy, so reservation is a good idea.

Jubilation in Albuquerque has the most extensive sherry and port section I've found in town. Total wine is lacking in sherry options.

What cookbooks have you bought recently, or are you lusting after? January 2014 edition! [Through January 31, 2014]

I have Greens and still enjoy it. Favorite: Dafuskie Quilt - a cold chicken and corn salad, and Amagansett Corn Salad, both delicious recipes. Gave away my Grains cookbook in one of my cookbook purgings - sorry I did.

I'm sure I'll enjoy cooking from Jerusalem once I get
Ingredients. AW's book is for everyday - it's got lots of ideas for variations and let's me create my own dish using her basic recipe.

Thanks- great reading everyone's experience with cooking from it. Chicken roasted with clementines is calling me!

The Art of Simple Food II by Alice Waters - love her first Art of Simple Food and get lots of inspiration from it to create my own dishes. The new one seems more kitchen garden oriented - maybe I'll love it too.

Also, Jerusalem - lots of chatter about the book so thought I'd give it a try. So far haven't been inspired to get all the ingredients to try a recipe.

Mas Opens in Downtown Albuquerque

I've been there twice and had tapas. The food is delicious. The menu has tapas and main dishes. There are daily special tapas too. Everything we tried was top notch. We loved the bruschetta with truffle, monchego cheese, and a fried egg on top. Had a tasty duck tapa and the fried shrimp is also excellent. The room is buzzing and has a good vibe. Our second visit presented us with a few issues. The valet service was not present - even after asking the maître d. Had to park in a parking garage several blocks away after driving around city blocks for awhile. We did get our first round of tapas on the house because of the valet issue. Our waiter seemed to vanish after that and we never did order anymore tapas as planned. Kind of a frustrating experience. Will try it again because the food is so good, but I hope they get the valet and wait service worked out better.

What Are You Planning For New Years Day?

I found this good recipe last year on Epicurious for black eyed peas with shrimp. Will be doing that again since it was so delicious and a light meal after all the holiday indulgence. Plan also to bake focaccia with herbs. Then we'll eat up all the Christmas cookies and chocolate.

Birthday Dinner in Honolulu

How about Michel's at the Colony Surf? Pricey but beautiful setting right on the ocean and some great beef and seafood dishes.

India Palace Albuquerque NE Closed?

Hadn't heard about that, but would recommend Paddy Rawah's OM in the north valley on fourth.

Good eats in Waikoloa and vicinty?

Spent a month in Waikoloa Beach resort last summer and ate our way up the coast. In the construction phase, but supposedly about to open, there was to be a gourmet grocery in the Queen's Market place right in Waikoloa Beach. Maybe it's opened?? Other than that for groceries, the Waikoloa town (10 minutes up the hill) or Mauna Lani resort for a small, but nice Foodland. Merriman's has a small place in King's plaza - good for lunch or a light supper. The larger restaurant up in Waimea (20 minutes) was delicious for lunch - didn't have dinner there. We had a wonderful meal (best of the trip) at Alan Wong's Hualalai Grill - sorry he is gone! Sansei has a place in Queen's plaza - good for sushi and very lively. There's a good sushi restaurant (Norio's)in the Fairmont Orchid and the bar in the hotel makes some amazing drinks. Cafe Pesto in Kawaihae Harbor is casual, but good - we ate there several times and enjoyed it. Roy's was loud, good appetizer, so so entree. We ate at Pahui'a at the Four Seasons - beautiful spot and delicious food. The Canoe House at the Mauna Lani was beautiful, but the food not quite as fabulous. Now that the Mauna Kea has reopened maybe there is a new great restaurant to try there. Enjoy!
