I'm trying to avoid Chinatown if I can.
Help! Birthday plans ruined by rain sunday.. where's a cheap place I can bring 20 to 50 people?
Hey all,
I planned on having a birthday party sunday in central park.. bringing an ipod boombox, hanging in the park, etc. However it looks like its going to rain. It's tough to say how many people are going to come, it could be 20 and it could be 50. Where is a good cheap place.. doesn't necessarily have to be a restaurant, I can bring people on a sunday afternoon? Need to think of something fast. Any ideas?
Thank you thank you,
Dessert Truck reopening?
Great I work near there! I'll definitely check it out....
And with donutplant nearby I might have a heart attack.
Chocolate Chunk Pancakes
Last year, during Clinton Street Bakery's celebration of Pancake Month (February), i got to try their rendition of the classic Chocolate Chunk Pancakes. It was easily one of the best things I had tasted all of last year, and I look forward to having it again this February (and possibly another pancake concoction they offer)

Since they only offer it a couple days a year, I am in need of something to get me by. Anywhere else you recommend? Even for just good pancakes.
In search of great Salmon with Ratatouille
Please, it is one of my favorite dishes. Despite being a devout nyc foodie here for years, I know little about its whereabouts in quality form. Thank you kindly.
Last minute Father's 64th bday, downtown, NYT 3-star level
Hearth it'll be!
Thanks a lot everyone for the feedback. The input was helpful as always. Several years ago I went to Hearth regularly, so I'll be looking forward to the visit, perhaps write a brief report if up for it. The vibe/decor suits him best for this round. Thank you!
Last minute Father's 64th bday, downtown, NYT 3-star level
For 8 people, for this sunday!
anywhere downtown, west village/tribeca/east village wherever.
I've already taken him to Blue Hill, Annisa, Indochine, Fleur de sel (RIP), Gotham Bar and Grill.
Not too stuffy preferably. I was eyeing Corton as one possibility, maybe Wallse? Somewhere with a great fish dishes is preferable, since he is on a diet. 1-mich star level, or 3 star NY times level, or whatever, just that vibe.

A Fellow Foodie
P.S. EMP is one of the restaurants on my list, if a reservation is possible. It is the only exception out the highest end restaurants. otherwise, the tier below like the restaurants mentioned above.
amazing sushi? EV, LES
It isn't my experience that Kanoyama is up there with Yasuda, though perhaps I'll give kobetokibo's suggestion a shot.
Lower East Side, Italian or Mexican, Casual
Mole is my favorite Mexican spot, and is located in the LES on Allen btw Stanton and Houston. Real good.
UNIQUE DATING IDEA
Moore's Brothers, the highest rated wine shop in the city by zagat (29), offers wine tastings/courses quite often. They specialize on European wines. Whenever I have gone here, they have always been incredibly insightful and I take home a winner. They have wine at every price range also

Need help from the Babbo pasta experts
The Bolognese is totally delicious, ugh I'm hungry for it now, and also..
The Pyramids. You can special order them from their tasting menu ala carte, as I did last time. SO delicious. it's really a simple dish, and it's so well executed, well balanced.
Una Pizza Napoletana Has Closed
Wow, bummer. I'm glad to have gotten my last pie a week or two ago, having not been there in a while. If he does indeed go to SF, I'll make a detour if I ever travel there.
Mexican in NYC?
Taco Taco also has a sister restaurant downtown called Mole. Amaaazing. Love the Burrito Enchilado with Carnitas, Enchiladas Suizas is good, sauce has that authentic twang to it.
Ramen in NYC
Agreed. This is the best ramen dish I've had in New York. It also was ranked #3 in the 2007 Time Out NY Best things we ate this year. The broth is just so ridiculously killer. So fantastic.
Good Cocktails near Washington Sq Park
Gotham Bar & Grill on 12st street, known for excellent french-american cuisine, is one I would check out. Possibly Blue Hill, which is right next to the park on the west side, but unless there are open seats at the bar, might be a little cramped.
Comfy near Carnegie Hall
Molyvos, just a block or two south of Carnegie hall, has stellar greek fare from a star greek chef. Is where I last went for a show at Carnegie and it was fantastic.
Koreatown Manhattan, or Koreatown Flushing?
Good posts. Wouldn't it be cheaper to take the 7 train instead of the LIRR? I don't know the LIRR route that well, perhaps it's more direct to certain areas and obviously quicker. But wouldn't it be more expensive?
Sripraphai - Your Favorite Dish(es)
Finally went to Sripraphai after hearing the hype for ages, and was not disappointed one bit.
I ordered the Chicken w/ cashew nuts and some chinese broccoli and was blown away. sooo good!!
Looove this place, gotta go back some more.
Okonomiyaki places
yes.
that place, whatever it's called.
Also, try Natori as well on saint marks btw 2nd and 3rd.
GREAT but Affordable Sushi
Natori in the East Village is my favorite cheap sushi place. fresh sushi for $15 a platter, better than many $20ish platters that I've had.
Authentic Mexican in NYC?
I would recommend Mole, excellent Mexico City-style fare. Their burrito enchilado with carnitas is superb, my favorite burrito in the city. their enchiladas suizas also quite tasty. it's a small place and it can get a little busy, particularly on weekends.

Keste Pizza on Bleecker
My pizza here was excellent. I had the Prosciutto Cotto (cooked imported ham, tomato, mozzarella, basil) and was satisfied with the results. Definitely something I would expect from an italian family that has the balls to open shop across the street from John's.
Per Se or Jean-Georges
Per Se, for me, is the better overall experience. In fact, it is my favorite elite restaurant in New York.
dinner: eastside around the upper sixties, any cuisine
price isn't a big issue, just as long as it isn't jean georges. what do you recommend?
Murray Hill eats
Along with Ali Baba, Tiffin Wallah (South Indian) is another neighborhood favorite, particularly for their famous $6 all you can eat vegetarian/vegan lunch buffet. It's a fantastic deal and very tasty.
Best Chinese near MOMA?
Joe's Shanghai, the Chinatown classic, has a location two blocks away, on 56th btw 5th and 6th. They're touted for their soup dumplings and comprehensive Chinese-American and Chinese menu.
Soba
Yeah, 15 East's soba master is the one from Honmura An. I've met him before, a real nice, humble guy.
Soba-Ya is where I usually go, tasty and their dishes are generally more affordable than Matsugen.
Soup Dumplings/ Joe's
XLB, chicken with broccolli. The XLB didn't seem well crafted, both the skin and the soup wasn't all too flavorful. The sauce for the chicken and broccolli was also poor quality, what one would find in a poor corner chinese shop. I'm open to giving it another shot, as many people like it here, but that experience was really poor.
