Steaks, not downtown: Austin Land and Cattle vs Bartlett's vs Eddie V's (arboretum) vs. ??? Flemings at the Domain has been excellent. Far superior to any meal I've had at ALC, and I dont think Bartlett's steaks are prime grade. |

Casita Jorge's New Owners to Close For Remodel I never understood how this place stayed open. My only trip there resulted in me eating some of the worst tasting food I've ever had in Austin. It was bad. |

In n' Out coming to Round Rock "No good burger". In N/NW Austin you have Hopdoddy, Hat Creek, Five Guys, Flemings at the Domain, Roaring Fork, Mighty Fine. This "land of the bland" stuff just isn't true and is tiresome to see all over this board. |

Austin Land and Cattle isn't that great. I'm very surprised at the number of people recommending them. They don't even use prime steaks. I've enjoyed III Forks, one thing nice about them is that sides come with the meal. I went to Sullivan's over five years ago and didn't care for it. However right now Flemings at the Domain would get the nod over III Forks for me. They use prime beef and they've been cooked correctly every time (as they should). Service has been very professional on each visit. |

In n' Out coming to Round Rock There is no White Castle in the South. Your best hope is Krystal which already failed spectacularly in Texas. |

Bar-B-Que between Austin and Dallas I wouldn't say there's anywhere "don't miss" between Austin and Dallas. If I had to go somewhere I'd go to Michna's in Waco a close 2nd would be DeMaria's in Waco. |

Cover 3 had TVs on for both Spurs/Thunder game 6 and King/Devils Game 4 last Wednesday. Considering there's no basketball today they should have a lot of their TVs on the Stanley Cup Final game. |

The demise of good Italian in north Austin I have always seen Gino there the past five years and Bob has been there the last two or three trips. I've only had one bad experience in at Reale's (been going there about nine years) about five years ago. There was an awfully rude and unfriendly waitress who I only saw that one time and she was never seen again, and even then the food was still good. |

I cannot more strongly disagree with the description of Amaya's tacos as similar to San Antonio style puffy taco. Yes the shell is bubbled and I guess you might describe it as "puffed", but that's because they are homemade. The only crispy taco shells that are not puffed are the pre-made ones that you say you want to avoid in the original post. If you make your own taco or chalupa shells at home you will find they can be slightly chewy. |

Amaya's fries their own shells. |

Smoked beef rib the Switch or J. Mueller or else? JMueller |

Steve, head to JMueller BBQ for your beef rib fix. I have no doubt he has the best beef ribs in the city right now. |

two foodie girls eating their way through austin... An easier alternative is to drive to Lockhart? |

Cheap, awesome greasy breakfast tacos near the airport Bill Miller has some of the better breakfast tacos out there. They are very generous with their fillings and the availability of brisket and link sausage sets them apart. |
|

Good Breakfast tacos WAY south. Bill Miller all the way. Good tortillas, great beans, and great carne guisada. Try a brisket, bean, and cheese and a carne guisada and cheese. |

I'm going to respond to my own post, but I finally had a chance to go last week. I've only ever cared for the breakfast tacos there so that's what I ordered. Amazingly enough the tacos and the salsa tasted exactly the same as at the original. It was very good. The had the exact same menu, but with a few things crossed out (not having been to the original location in about three years I don't know if it's crossed out there also or just location specific). |

There actually is a Polvo's north now. They bought La Brissa on Bratton Ln. and turned it into a Polvo's. |

The Sun Harvest store on Anderson has been open for many years and now after only being a Sprouts for three months they are going to close it? Everything I feared before the take over has come true. They raised prices on everything, the quality of the produce dropped, the and the quality of the beef dropped. As small as the the store on Anderson is it actually has a meat counter unlike Great Hills which only has fish and sausage. It also has more local products and a better bread selection. With the closing of the Anderson Sun Harvest I'll be able to get better produce and meats at the Braker HEB. No reason to shop at Sprouts at all with the "Sun Harvest" store closed. |

There was a permanent link on a popular aggie messageboard to the website voting. They thought it would be so super kewl to have an aggie owned establishment win the contest for best burger in _Austin_. That's how Mike's Pub won the contest. |

Please review/critique my plan and logistics I've had nothing but awful food at Southside in Elgin. I would skip it. |

Cheddar cheese with Texas BBQ: what's the deal? [moved from Austin board] Bill Miller has excellent pickled onions. |

Amazing that Arredondo had his hand in almost every restaurant in my own personal list of "worst Tex-Mex places in Austin". I'm being serious, but this really explains a lot for me. |

The tiramisu at North is very good. |

Best Dishes to Order at Jaleo (non paella) I was just there last month. In addition to our lobster paella which was wonderful we also had: My wife, who doesn't like seafood, loved the paella and the shrimp (gambas). The garlic flavor of the shrimp was outstanding. Our overall favorite was the pork and fois gras canelones. I would consider that a must order. The eggplant (berenjenas) had a light sweetness to it that helped it function as an excellent dessert. I really liked the carne asada with peppers, but it was our least favorite of the four. That's not to say it wasn't good, even saying that it was still wonderful. Our best meal ever. |

Best Happy Hours in Far NW Austin and Beyond (Cedar Park, Round Rock) After your response I realize my post was poorly worded. I was trying to say that whatever is on the happy hour menu is probably good based on what I've had from their whole menu. They changed their HH menu several months back and the trio of spreads is sorely missed. The only things I know are on the HH menu for sure are the bruchetta and a few of the pizzas (mozzarella/basil and pepperoni come to mind). The pizzas are very good, and so is the bruchetta. I'll take better notes of the HH menu on my next trip. |

Best Fried Fish Sandwich in Town? I had a surprisingly good fried fish sandwich at Sam's Boat. I'll also second the Jim's recommendation. |
