what happened to cavaillon???

so we went to cavaillon on sunday for breakfast. we have been there many times since i live in camino del sur. never had any issues, always good, if not great food.

we go about once every 4 weeks and order the same thing , the spinach bacon poached egg breakfast, the beighnets, and some coffee.

i noticed that the little french guy is no longer there, but that is no biggie since his service was average at best.

so, we both order our meals, the spinach benedict, and to start with our bacon tasted so bad it left an aftertaste that would nto go away. i think that the bacon had been sitting in grease or something but even the waiter said it was nasty. that was his word too... nasty.
i RARELY say anything but it was terrible so i asked if they had any other bacon or some sausage,. they didnt so he offered to get us something else, whihc we didnt want, so he gavue us the beighnets for free. i said thanks and proceeded to start on my benedict, as did my fiance.

we cut into our eggs, adn the eggs were hard boiled,... they were not runny in the middle like eggs benedicts usually are. both of our plates were cooked the exact same. it almost looked like the eggs had been precooked? i couldnt believe how bad it was considering we always have really good food here.

my finance asked if they had a new chef, and our answer was no, they did not. we realized maybe he was having a bad day, whatever. that stuff happens.

she ate 1 bite of her meal, and i ate my potatoes and two bites of my bene.

so to make up for our meal experience, they comped everything but the coffee. they did not offer us a new meal though or to come back again on them? that suprised me. i kind of thought the chef would come out and say somethign too but he didnt.

my question is, did i misunderstand the situation? did i react correctly? should something more have been done? we told them nicely, that our food was bad and the waiter was cool. i just thought they should have done more.

we dont get to go out to brunch, dinner, etc very often (we have a 1yo) and when we do we expect a little bit more. I was seriously disappointed.

do you know the ruth's chris stuffed chicken recipe?

i asked the waitress last time i went and she told me most of it. cream cheese, herbs (not sure which ones), the ranch packet, cheddar cheese and some other stuff. my SO wrote it down..

anyway, we tried to duplicate it last week but it was not a success. it is hard to find that small chicken they use (prob a 2.5 lb bird), get the skin crispy, etc. we roasted it on 475 convection but it still wasnt the same.

i think we are going to try again, just get the right size bird and use a pastry tube for the cheese mixture.

ordering my thanksgiving turkey from the la jolla whole foods again or no???

I ordered the turkey ahead of time last year from whole foods and it was delish. i was wondering if anyone else knows of a better spot to go to? i cant recall the name of the turkey but it was like $60 for there smallest one. I dont really care about price as much as quality.

When do they start accepting orders for htese things anyway? i was in there today and they werent taking orders yet that i saw.

on a side note, went to pizza port and had the one with the artichokes on it, it was DELISH! lots of little kids there but who cares. It was def above average. good everything. ill be going there again. they even had my fav beer.... Yellowtail.

I hate to post stuff like this but i went off of a rec on this board that said it was good. Unfortunately, this was far from true. Even the pizza i used to eat in college that was $5 for a large (and a coke) was better than this.

They skimped on all the toppings. Not enough cheese, meat, veggies, etc.
Sauce was adequate, crust was decent, but cmon, who skimps on the ingredients??? especially the cheese and pepperoni. Sausage left a weird flavor in my mouth. What a joke. If someone truly believes that this is good or even avergae pizza, then you should not be posting anything on this board. Or at least refund me my $18 that i spent on my dinner last night.

from now on, im just going to drive all the way down to bronx. I only get pizza every couple weeks so i think i can justify it.

Market or Paradise Grille

i laughed when i read scrilla. my buddy always calls it that. must be a SF thing?

anyways, paradise is tight. if you are younger, which i assume you are since you say scrilla, i would def recommend that. it is a good looking crowd, if you feel me, and there are tv's so you can watch sports among other things..... they have a good happy hour menu too. nothing against the older crowd...... i went with my girl last week. she loved it too. im 32, shes 28.
the drinks were a little on the watery side though?

Looking for good fishmonger in San Diego

i love the name Whole Paycheck! how true! i wish i could shop there every day.

at any rate, as far as trying different types of fish, like mizduck suggests, i do that kinda stuff when i go out to a restaurant. Not when im cooking on the grill or in the kitchen. I also dont think that Mahi Mahi is just a fish popular with american diners? isnt that one of the most popular fish served? they didnt even know what it was? this is the manager im speaking of, the lady that walks around. she is the one that orders the fish. The guys behind the counter just clean the fish.

am i a snob too if i dont like the smell of that place?

Looking for good fishmonger in San Diego

sorry id have to disagree with honkman. i have been to lucky seafood more than once. the last time i went i asked them if they had any mahi mahi... they didnt know what that was.
i thought ok, maybe they call it dorado, they didnt know what that was either! the times i went before, they never had what i wanted either! It wasnt because it wasnt in season either, i just think they cater to a different clientelle than what i am looking for (ie. snapper, tuna, halibut, mahi mahi, etc).

if you want selection, Point Loma seafood is the best. Freshest seafood in SD.
