Roasting Tri-tip?
Last post was awhile ago, so I am sure that roast is gone by now :) But I make tri-tip sandwiches. I roast it up on Sunday and use it all week. Sometimes I cut some up and toss into a BBQ/Ranch dressing salad. Good stuff.
What red wine to use for marninating a rack of lamb
As a general rule I like to use a medium bodied wine, nothing big and overly jammy (like Zin) or oaky (as the oak flavors don't translate well in cooking). I tend to use a grenache based rhone wine, you can get some pretty good ones for under $12 depending on where you live.
Pairing for Tuna Tartare?
Anyone have a good wine pairing for tuna tartare? It will be asian style which includes some soy sauce, but it will not be spicy.
Thanks!
Great Value Reds... ($10 - $20 range)
I like Firehouse Red by Tamarack Cellers from Columbia Valley Washington. It is about $16.00 depending on where you are.
If you really like old world, Les Rouilleres is a Lorie Valley Cab Franc, it is very rustic, and only about $16.00. Also, Chateau Clos Chaumont a Bordeaux, it roles in a about $15. Got that one at Cost Co.
Enjoy!
Help!!! What wine to pair w/blue cheese Burger???
I have made steak and blue cheese before and the biggest thing is going with something that doesn't have a lot of oak and or noticeable tannins. Tannins and oak with blue cheese will often give the wine a metallic taste. Go with something very fruit forward and medium bodied, some Zins would work, a new world style Rioja, or Shiraz. Oh, would skip the tomato aioli, the blue cheese will over power it.
Best online wine retailers
I pretty much use Wine Library. Prices are good and each day (Mon through Fri) they pick a wine for free shipping. Nice thing is the free wine ranges in price. At one point this week they had a $169/bottle wine (why someone how can afford that would need free shipping is beyond me) to a $12.00 Rhone. At least once a week something is usually at the $8 or $9 mark. So far about 90% of the wines I have purchase this way have turned out to be quite good.
Review of Azuze in San Carlos-- Two Stars
Let me start by stating the service here is pretty bad. After sitting for almost 10 minutes I had to get up to find someone to help us, even though there were only about 4 other tables being used. Further, after ordering no one checked on us until after the meal was done.
Being a wine person I thought the list of wines, was well, sad to say the least. In this day and age most restaurants have at least a descent wine program. They had only a couple wines by the glass, none of them very good (though they were thankfully not over priced). The bottle list was very poor and for the most part expensive. Obviously, wine was not taken into consideration at this restaurant.
For an appetizer my friend and I split the crab cakes, which were not very good. They were over cooked on one side and undercooked on the other. The inside had a terrible texture. The sauce that came with the dish was rather bland and there was way too much of it.
For my dinner I had the ginger soy baby back ribs. They were not too bad and the price was offensive. In general though they could have been better, but I did enjoy them (hence the 2 stars instead of 1).
Skipped dessert. Most of the offering were run of the mill. Cheesecake, bread pudding, creme brulee, etc. Do to the lack of imagination on the dessert menu I was pretty sure they bought out or used frozen desserts.
There are some very good restaurants in the area, my suggestion is find something for the price.

Does anyone know of a butcher selling venison or other game in the San Mateo area?
