Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please
I don't know. All I do know is that my reaction when I went to the sit down place was the same as yours, but the take away place has been consistently good. And the take away place is consistently busy while the other not so much. I've peeked back at the kitchen and they do not look the same nor does it look to be from the back but I could be wrong.
Oval Room, Vidalia, Proof, Blue Duck Tavern, Acadiana, or somewhere else?
Yea, but this lady would be ok with Red Lobster, so Oval Room or Blue Duck it sounds like she would not appreciate it and frankly might consider $50 for lunch a bit of a waste. That said, Georgia Browns is also quite good (though there is a wide variety of opinion on that) and they have good southern style food. Just a thought.
Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please
You are incorrect. Different owners, different food. The one with the yellow awning, for what it is, is great. The one with the blue awning, as ME says, is meh.
Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please
You went to the wrong one. There are two. Kabob Palace does not have steam trays- everything is made to order.
Desperately seeking bay scallops
This is silly (unless you were seeking fresh, not frozen- then it is a different story). Go to Costco, H-T, Giant, Safeway...two pound bag 20ish dollars.
Fresh Seafood Dinner in DC: Hank's, Pearl Dive, or somewhere else?
Kinkeaids is very good old school service, nice fresh fish, but not a great value. For just lobster/shrimp/crab rolls really one of the best if not the best is Lukes but it is small and very casual. Also worth considering it Old Ebbitt- it is consistent and good, even if overly busy and touristy.
Soft Shell Crabs in DC
Incorrect. It started three weeks ago. They are available- usually for a heck of a lot less than 16.00 each (retail).
GOOD store bought Steaks
OMG if you are in the Annapolis area, try My Butcher and More. Always great meat, helpful friendly service. Not the cheapest by far but the quality for choice, prime and American Kobe is always top notch. www.mybutcherandmore.com
Montrealers in DC
Love Montreal and a great food scene - a few thoughts on something different from what you'll find in Montreal-
Like others have mentioned, we have the largest Ethiopian population outside of Ethiopia, so something like Etete or Dukem on U Street would be different.
You might consider something "modern" like Central or The Source or even America Eats pop up that I don't think you'll find in Montreal. Also, a nice take on chocolate (as well as a good brunch) is CoCo Sala.
Have a great time!
Gefilte Fish
Does not have to be kosher. Besides, that would have kosher foods for the entire country. I'm just looking for the DC area, skipper.
JFX 2012
Has the JFX farmers market in Baltimore begun yet? Anything new and interesting (or old and gone?)...
Gefilte Fish
Anyone know where freshly ground, not out of a jar gefilte fish can be found in the DC area? Maybe a fishmonger or a high end supermarket? Bottled is fairly easy to find, and I'm not quite all in to buy fish and grind it up myself this year...
Anyone been to the Hamilton yet?
Well, that would be because it is owned by Clydes...
pizza for a crowd in South Arlington?
Costco is a good idea for cheap, decent thick crust. Monterey Pizza Co is a very good take out only joint just down Jeff Davis on the right as you cross into Old Town Alexandria- 5-10 mins from South Arlington.
Group Meal Downtown/Penn Quarter
Here are some DC thoughts near PQ and the Convention Center-
Maybe try to book your group for an off the books table at Seasonal Pantry- Dan does that sometimes...
Courdory- right across the street from the convention center beautiful, very good food, reasonably priced
Co Co Sa La- they do sweet and savory and DC is the only location- beautiful food, fantastic chocolate, near PQ
Then there is Rouge 24 which is a unique, special and expensive experience all by itself- I'm sure it will be rockin during FF
Sourcing Meat
Depending on where you are, and how much you want to spend, My Butcher and More near Annapolis has some great sourcing for locally and humanely raised top prime beef... www.mybutcherandmore.com
DC Area Food/Factory Outlets- Dreyer's?
In Cleveland, where I'm from, there are some fantastic real factory outlets- I don't mean like a Pepperidge Farm outlet at a mall, but an outlet at a manufacturing facility. For example, King Nut had a store where they'd sell seconds, large sacks of nuts, specialty products, etc. Or at the Stouffers/Nestle facility, right below the world's biggest freezer they have an outlet that sells seconds, commercial size packs, case loads and overstocks of hot pockets, Buttoni, Nestle and of course Stouffers.
So I understand Nestles has a huge Dreyer's/Edy's facility in Laurel, Maryland. Do they have an outlet? Are there any in the DC area? What are your favorites?
Knife sharpening
Logan Hardware on P near 14th NW advertises knife sharpening. Don't now if that is more for lawn mowers and shearers than fine cullinary insturments, but there you go... probably don't charge by the inch...
Eataly To Open In DC During 2012
Ok, another idea: how about the red brick schoolhouse next to the Hyatt, across the street from the new development at 10th and H St NW? Right size. Right location. Right kind of traditional structure for a build out. Eataly in NYC is stand alone and this would be too...
But my guess is as good as any... or worse...
Chicken Fried Steak
Yea, but you can get decent chili and bbq in DC that, while it may leave you pining for home, or leave your wallet empty doesn't make you "sad."
Christmas Day - Hunan Taste and Honey Pig
Honey pig I believe is, however it has gone downhill over the past year- used to be a quirky, fun experience even if the food was just ok. Last time I was there it was just messy, overcrowded, and poor to mediocre food.
Where can I buy wild boar in DC?
+1 for Lets Meat- great butcher shop (along with My Butcher and More) and both can probably special order boar 4 u.
Where can I buy wild boar in DC?
If you are going to consider having your meat shipped, in Chicago there is Chicago Game and Gourmet- it is what we used for an exotic game meal back in Cleveland for bear, turtle, etc...:

Eataly To Open In DC During 2012
If you've been to the NYC flagship, it is very much an urban experience in a building with a traditional, old world character. Assuming they stick with that theme, something like the Old Post Office at Union Station would be perfect, though it could very well be something like the old yellow building at the corner of 7th and H(?) near Chinatown, or the mall across the street that could use some life zinged into it, or do a complete build out in a newer building with an "old Italy" kind of look. They'll want to have both the tourist and lunch trade and those locations, as well as something in the new City Center would give them both. I wonder if they are consulting with/working with the Italian Embassy? What a wonderful cultural outlet- Eataly is more than just Italian food, but an Italian experience that would drive cultural relations, tourism, etc... hope you are reading this, Mario... and welcome to DC!
Where can I find Big Red (and other Texas specialties in DC -- before Christmas?
I know it's not the answer you want, but Hill Country carries Big Red, I believe...
Good butcher in or around Washington, DC?
Might not be the most convenient, but My Butcher and More near Annapolis is really wonderful...Mike who runs the place is really helpful and knows his meat!

Jewish-style Deli Opening in Dupont Circle
First bagels, then a deli... what is next, a schvitz?
:-)
Wiinky's Burgers Arlington VA - No reports on the boards, what gives?
Just look around....
http://www.arlnow.com/2011/04/19/wiinkys-enters-crowded-burger-field-with-a-hope-a-prayer-and-angus-beef/
It is actually kind of a compelling story and a local establishment to boot...
