Aki Sushi in Philly
And so am I. I must say it was nice to meet some fellow hounders in person and put a face to the names here. I agree with sockii that Aki's AYCE was somewhat above the usual AYCE fare. And delucacheesemonger, I am definitely in for the roast suckling pig dinner. . . . (and the pizza trip) . . . .

And I'll be the one sporting a cane (still recovering from a broken leg) . . . .
Keffir / Kefir Lime Leaves???
I know this is not what you asked for but the easiest way, for me, to obtain these beauties is to order from importfood.com. It is a Thai produce and condiment place that I have ordered from for the last several years and have never had a complaint. I believe it was even recommended by Mark Bitten. The only reason I thought of it was I just got an email from them announcing new specials and a flat $5 mailing fee. That is when I usually place an order as I do a lot of Thai cooking. Hope this helps.
PS-I buy my leaves in bulk and then just freeze them. That way I never have to worry about availability. Here is the link: http://importfood.com/current071409.html
Zhi-Wei-Guan: Philly
Don't know about choices but as Ali said earlier this year when commenting on the differences between the two restaurants: "Zhi Wei Guan currently has my vote for dumplings, especially soup dumplings. SO much better than the popular Dim Sum Garden and just plain delicious."
Zhi-Wei-Guan: Philly
Hey PattiCakes-Let me know how it goes because I had the very same question after having bought the same certificate while it was on sale at the site. Couldn't resist it, however, after reading comments on the restaurant (and those dumplings) on this board. Thanks, Mary
Aki Sushi in Philly
I agree about the bar being very low but forget all about that. Yasuda? Now I am salivating and, dare I say (even for a fellow hounder (egads!)), jealous. I hope you're sitting at the sushi bar. Maybe the big guy himself will serve you . . . . Yippee is an understatement, sir.
Aki Sushi in Philly
Hey, thanks for the quick response. That is very good to know-unbelievable price and seven days/week. I remember a place in Arlington, VA that had a similar deal but nevertheless had that same exact price about 15 years ago (it was, however, acknowledged as the best ayce sushi in the Washington area at that time).
Aki Sushi in Philly
Delucacheesemonger-Do you mean 7 days a week? Or just all day on those two days? If you're up for it again anytime soon, would love to join you . . . . (and finally meet a fellow hound). Mary
New England clambake for 2-CC-Not Oyster House
BTW-Philadining's blog has a very good review, even on Oyster House's opening day but look at what it says about the clams. Oh boy, can't wait.
New England clambake for 2-CC-Not Oyster House
Thank you so much! I'm awaiting reviews of both before proceeding but will let you know. As a transplanted Bostonian, my mouth started watering when I read about both . . . . (as well as Ipswith clams with full bellies at Oyster House) . . . .
New England clambake for 2-CC-Not Oyster House
I saw in Mealticket that Oyster House was offering such a clambake at lunch for $50. Am I wrong but wasn't it also recently announced that another restaurant (either new or revamped) in CC also started offering such a clambake for two for $36?

Help! Great restaurant within walking distance of the Hotel Monaco, near Chinatown
Hey guys, a co-worker of mine is travelling to DC for a funeral late tomorrow and woud like to eat dinner at a restaurant near this hotel. While I lived in DC for some 13 years, I can't say I ate out in that part of town much. Any recommendations?
PS-I steered him to the
tabard Inn last visit and he loved it.
"Stimulus Dinner", or other value meals sparked by the economy
Hey, I just an email from Restaurant.com that $25 gift certificates from them are available for $3. Just purchased one for when the SO comes from DC.
Can one freeze fat-free 1/2 and 1/2?
I can now attest that one cannot freeze this half and half. I did so and, when unfrozen, had to junk it. it was a mess.
Dinner near North Star Bar - 27th & Poplar Sts
Rabidog-I stopped being lazy and went to yelp.com myself. Here is the address: 2743 Poplar St. Go-it is divey but oh so good.
Dinner near North Star Bar - 27th & Poplar Sts
Rabidog-been trying to respond to your post re Era but to no avail. Go to yelp.com for the exact address but it is a stone's throw from North Star. Hole in the wall but great ethiopean food. Glad to be some help to you (finally) after all the helpful posts you've given me.
it's time for the crappy pots to go
Go to Bittman's past columns about pots and pans and where to buy them, how much to spend, etc. It is in the NYT archives.
Can one freeze fat-free 1/2 and 1/2?
Hi-I know this must be a stupid question but can you freeze fat-free half and half? I have gotten several cartons from friends over the last couple of days (I've been sick) and there is too much for me to consume before their expiration date. Just wanted to know. Thanks.
Grocery stores in Chinatown?
Thanks for all the help. Your tips are great . . . I really appreciate them.
Grocery stores in Chinatown?
Thanks Rabidog. What would this post do without you? Hey, by the way, are you a dog owner? Again, thanks. I am going to either of both locations tomorrow. God, I love this post. . . . especially since you guys answered with my handicap in particular. I am very touched.
Grocery stores in Chinatown?
Thanks Bob. Just talked to my landlord (who is Chinese and lives in Chinatown). She told me the same thing. I'll check it out.
Grocery stores in Chinatown?
Oh, and by the way, precise addresses would be helpful as I'll be going there by cab. Thanks again.
