Gravy Ramen at Kanpai Sushi - anyone tried it?
I was the very first customer to try it :-)
I happened to be there the first night they put it on the menu about 2 weeks ago.
one of the sushi chef, Kazu-san, created this ramen and was very interested in my opinion after my first bites...
I LIKED IT alot. It is kinda like a tsukemen (noodles with heavy dipping broth) but you dont need to dip because the noodles are already inside.... it is a mainly veggie stock with some pork bone for flavor... it is not for everyone since it is kinda thick (thicker than curry i would say) but if you want something different than a regular soupy ramen then this is something you should at least try once...

have had a few fantastic dinners at Spice Table since opening in March..... recently they started their quick service lunch...order in the front, pay, get a number, and food will be delivered to your table... for lunch the main attraction is their offering of gourmet banh mi inspired sandwiches... i've tried almost all of their sandwiches and all of them are great with very different taste and textures... my favorite is their cold cut which has Vietnamese ham, paté, house made headcheese, garlic mayo, pickled carrots, pickled daikon, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeños all inside a fresh baguette baked in the back... I understand the usual banh mi sandwiches are in the $2-3 zone in the usual banh mi stores but the moment you try this you will understand the refinement of taste that makes it worth the $7.5 that they charge...
check this place for a quick downtown lunch..... good stuff

Pubbelly - Perceptor's Photo Report
what an fantastic eating weekend my wife and I just had in Miami... visiting from Los Angeles for a 3 day weekend, we packed our eating schedule with Ola, Pubbelly, Sra.Martinez, Casa Tua and Havana Harry's...
I will start sharing my photo report with my experience at Pubbelly first...
to start, i love pork belly... any belly on any animal (fish, pork, cow) is a must order on any menu :-)
when i was researching for miami eateries, i came across Pubbelly and after seeing the menu, i had to reserve a dinner for it....
dinner was awesome... that pork belly with torched butterscotch over kabocha puree has got to be one of the best/unique preparation of a brick of pork belly ive ever had.... i nearly fainted... that mcBelly is damn good as well... how can you go wrong with pork belly sliders... all the other dishes were tops as well...

Son of a Gun - Perceptor's Photo Report
good point mc michael... i took the interior picture at 6:00pm when it was empty... by 7:30, the place was jumping especially the bar and communal table area...
alligator shnitzel at Son of a gun
other than the fact it is alligator, it really isn't that intriguing.... it is dry chicken cutlet...

Son of a Gun - Perceptor's Photo Report
after the success of Animal, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo opened Son of a Gun on 3rd Street shop/eatery stretch by Beverly Center... it has a very cool nautica/new england vibe to it... the looong 20 seat communal table is the center piece of the restaurant... communal table definitely encourages alot of conversation and sharing between complete strangers...
food wise... the highlights were the lobster roll, fish dip and shrimp toast... the dessert hoboken special which is chocolate ice cream with pineapple fanta was definitely an interesting combo... im not copying that at home anytime soon but definitely interesting borderline interestingly odd :-)

Porthos.... we both sure wake up early on a saturday morning :-)

glad you had a nice evening there Aching..... i need to go back soon to try the items i didnt order last time
The Spice Table - Perceptor's Photo Report
hey Porthos... excellent question as both are doing asian inspired cuisine... they are actually very different... Lukshon is alittle more upscale and a menu that has combinations that one has never tried before while Spice Table is much more straight forward and to the point Singapore/Vietnamese crossover cuisine which are 2 fav asian cuisines of mine... since i always enjoy more casual and straight forward food, in that case it would be Spice Table that i return first.... but Lukshon is definitely top choice if i feel like a more upscale modern decor night with bold unchartered flavors... hope that helps
