When making Turkish Coffee for guests....

The Middle East calls all non-instant ground coffee "Turkish"; there is even decaf Turkish coffee. Among the many varieties on our supermarket shelf are several with hel [cardamom], which I really don't like but drink at my inlaws. They make a whole ceremony of the preparation - grinding the coffee, boiling it, adding the sugar & boiling it again. At home I just pour boiling water on the coffee in my cup, which is heresy to the purist but tastes fine if the ground coffee is good.

Another Hanukkah party menu request

We had our annual party today - open house from 10 AM-3PM with about 20 adults & 20 kids. No latkes - I refuse to fry when there is company. Buffet menu: pizza, vegetable soup, soya franks, oven-baked french fries, pitas, hummus & eggplant salads, fresh sufganiot from our local bakery & home-made cupcakes for the kids to decorate. Hot drinks for a rainy day, & lots of fun!

Help with Gift Basket Contents! (For an elderly person)

Ask your friend: 1- what does his father like/dislike, 2- is he disabled by the stroke, 3- is he living alone? If 2 or 3 are yes, go for easy-opening individual servings of apple sauce, jam, honey, crackers, cheese sticks, etc. Include plastic spoons, knives & cheerful napkins. The last time I had this situation, the woman's daughter told me that she loves fruit jams & exotic teas, which I was happy to send.
