What Can I Shave Parmesan Over?!

I've always disliked Parmesan but for some reason I'm kinda addicted to it and I bought a wedge. This is kinda new territory for me, I know you will usually shave it in salads or pasta but I'm kinda sick of salads or pastas (I work in an Italian restaurant) so I kinda want to try new combination but I know really little about this cheese.

And I only really like it shaved for some reason.

The Very Best Chinese Restaurants in Scarborough?

Well I was only talking about their dim sum. But I'm not going to try after having tried their beef noodles, it was ridiculously bland and didn't really have that taste that things stir fried in a wok should taste.

The Very Best Chinese Restaurants in Scarborough?

I don't agree with Casa Imperial I just thought there food is very average but with very un-average prices. It's not they use very expensive ingredients either...

Do dumplings count as a category? I love Dumpling King's dumplings, really juicy, flavourful, and I think their wrappers have the best amount of thickness. But their non-dumpling foods are kinda hit and miss.

Krispy Kreme burger!!

Food at the Ex is always so disappointing and overpriced though. Like I have a feeling they'll just use frozen patties. If it is than it's not worth it, you should clog your arteries with something tasty!

Like last year I had the deep fried butter, it was like this minuscule cube of butter in a thick batter and it just melted into the batter immediately, so it was four small piece of fried cake that is slightly buttered, so not worth $5. And the lines ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Sorry for the rant.

What's the most overpriced menu item you've seen?

Oh I was just talking to my friend the other day how I felt so angry at being ripped off at this restaurant. It was supposed to be high end Chinese food but the only thing high end about it was the prices. I had Cantonese classic stir fried beef noodles. It was $16 dollars and the ingredients were pretty much the same as other places...other places that charge $6 ($4 during lunch specials!) as if that wasn't bad enough the cheap alternatives tasted better. The expensive one was ridiculously bland.

Their dim sum was also expensive and it was merely mediocre and I definitely didn't taste higher quality ingredients.

Poll: Would you eat a dog

I think I would, I'm a very curious person. I don't know why cats and dogs are so revered though, rabbits are also common pets but a lot of people eat them.

There are some foods that I will not even try.

What's so weird about most (or all) of them? Although in general because a lot of people have thought "Wtf" at food from my ethnicity I try not to think that about other people's food and I will try anything once usually.

But things I generally will never try, ketchup flavoured anything. Like I heard that they had ketchup flavoured macarons and I thought that was the most disgusting thing ever.

Does anyone else get a craving for sushi when you visit the aquarium?

Steamed fish for me, with the ginger and green onions and soy sauce poured on top.

Goody’s Diner – Finally an Ontario candidate for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives… and it’s in Scarborough

Well I finally went due to this thread. The burgers definitely were great! Really juicy and I thought they tasted beefy. And the people working there are really friendly.

David Sedaris on China and Chinese food

Well if he's supposed to be a comedic writer than he's not exactly David Mitchell (an actual hilarious person).

What he's writing is exactly what a lot of foreigners think of China already so if it's hyperbole it doesn't really work here and all this article does is reaffirm the rather unfairly negative view people have of China already.

And the comparisons to Japan...really?!

Help! Tomatoes got put in the fridge by mistake

What?! I always put them in the fridge what have I been doing to my tomatoes?!

Typical American breakfast foods you don't enjoy at breakfast?

The most staple of American breakfast I can not stand to eat in the morning. Bacon and eggs. I love them just can not stomach them in the morning. I just can't stand greasy food or heavy foods in the morning I will feel kinda queasy.

Actually the only food I can eat in the morning is cereal haha. Which seems to be unpopular on this thread...

Okinomi House on Charles Street, Toronto

The one at T&T Middlefield was better imo. The Okonomi house's are too thin I thought, and they put waaaay to much sauce. Idk just generally not enjoyable to me.

New PBS Series - Korean cuisne w/Jean Georges Vongerichten and his wife

It'll be nice if they have an actual Korean person talk about their own cuisine.

meh

I second the Beerbistro.

Strawberries have no flavor anymore. Agree or disagree?

Well I just came back from Seoul a week ago. I had the strawberries that were grown in Korea. They were so sweet and really juicy, and they were pretty big as well. Too bad I went when it was the final days of the season.

However I bought some Ontario stawberries yesterday and those were small and bland. Maybe because of climate change...

local strawberry sightings & pricings, 2011

I bought some Ontario strawberries at metro for 6 (or 6.99). They were kinda bland, and a few even had actually no flavour at all.

Taiwanese Noodles

If you live in Scarborough, the plaza at Midland and Finch also have them.

Royal Cuisine in Seoul?

I'm in Seoul right now and just want to know if anyone have any experience with this kind of meal and which ones are good.

Hong Kong dumpling / dessert crawl: suggested itineraries?

Oh, what great timing I just recently went to Auntie Sweet for dessert and I had a durian tofu fa, it's good if you really like durian like me. But what I really liked was this tong yuen that is their specialty which is a peanut butter and chocolate filling. Surprisingly not overly sweet.

I also like the custard tong yuen at Chung Kee, especially the one in green tea wrapping. They also have durian pancakes which are very pungent.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, I've been in a tong yuen kick during my visit so that's all I remember mostly.

Good Eats going off the air.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can at least think of five season of things that he hasn't done yet on the top of my head!!!

Now what is his twitter?

Hong Kong: New Territories and Outlying Islands

I've been reading the boards for awhile since I am going to HK soon but most suggestions seem to be in the Kowloong/HK part of the city. Since New Territories is a big part of the land just wondering if there's anything good around there and I was planning to spend one day on one of the islands outside of HK and want to know which ones have better food.

Thanks.

Is J-Town Closed?

J-Town's not closed...

What shocked you the first time you ate it?

Besides some vegetables (and that's mostly because my gran boiled the hell out of them) the first time I had uni (sea urchin) I thought it tasted like crap...literally. The smell was quite putrid and it tasted like it smelled. But then a few years later this restaurant was offering complimentary uni sushi because they're brand new so of course I had to eat it (I like free stuff) and then at first I was like ugh, then I was like hmmm, then I was like hmmmmm (in a positive way). But finally one time I actually had it really fresh and it was absolutely AMAZING!!! And now I love it. And to think I'll never have know if I weren't so cheap and kept accepting freebies.

Oh and ketchup but I still despise it, the taste I thought was so terrible I still have yet to find a word to describe how god awful it is.

am I a SNOB?

Oh that's not so bad, my friend pondered about jarred garlic once and I told her I'll go over to her house and throw it in the garbage if she did.

But that's just how I talk in general. It really depends on the person obviously I won't say that to a person who I don't know as well.

Have you been to the Southside restaurant in the Spadina Village?

The one across from a second cup right?

I've been there a few times. I think most of their dishes are well done, nothing mind blowing but it's tasty and the options in that area are kinda limited if you are walking. I really like their lamb burgers, very flavourful and you can get it however cooked you want. I also like their gnocchi.

Don't get the onion soup though, I hate it. I'm very particular about my FOS and theirs missed every mark possible.

Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?

Maybe something not white. I mean Toronto is pretty culturally diverse and that list doesn't really reflect that imo. Especially since there's such a big Chinese population...

Soy Marinated Crab?

Hey y'all, I've been searching for this dish for awhile now. Soy marinated crab (or Gae-jang in Korean) is when you marinate fresh raw crab in a soy sauce mixture for awhile. I rarely see this on menus and when I do they say they don't have it. So was wondering where can I get this seemingly mythical dish?!

Name this Chinese bakery item?

Oh my goodness I didn't realize how many people hated this! I love it! I like to cut it in thin .5 cm slices, dip it in egg and then pan fry them!!

My favorite thing about the new years.
