Dinner with kids in the Upper West Side/Midtown West

My aunt and uncle are coming in tonight with their two young children from Colorado, and they would like to go out to dinner before heading to CT for the week. I would like to take them some place that is non-touristy (they lived here before having the kids) but that is also kid-friendly. Both kids are good eaters, not too picky. Any place that serves locally grown food is a plus!

Our price range is no more than $20 a meal, preferably closer to $12-15.

Dinner for two on New Year's

My boyfriend and I will be staying in the city for New Year's, and figured we should probably make dinner reservations now (if not weeks ago). We're looking for some recommendations.

An idea of the sort of places we like - Caracas Arepas Bar and Fette Sau are favorites. We aren't picky eaters, though I don't like Thai and he does not like Indian. We also usually end up at Italian restaurants, so I'd like to stay away from those.

We live on the Upper West Side, but I thought it would be nice to get way downtown for once (east or west). We'd like to stay under $100 for the two of us, not including drinks.

Any ideas would be a big help!

Thanks - these are great suggestions. I think Coney Island's boardwalk is closed, or soon will be. But I have been wanting to ride the Cyclone since I first started living here.

I love Caracas! My roommate and I try and go at least once a month because we get cravings for the arepas. I will have to try Joe's as soon as I get back to NY.

Yes. Three years. In my defense, I have had a heavy course load and worked in whatever spare hours I could.

I'm in the upper West side.

So my last year of college will be starting soon. I've spent the past three school years in Manhattan, and I feel like I haven't even begun to discover what is there. I don't know if I'll ever be able to live here again - large animal veterinarians don't seem to be in too high of demand around here. So help a girl out. I've got from September to May to taste my way through the City.

I love all types of food - and I'm willing to try pretty much anything. My only restriction is price. I don't mind splurging every once in a while, but for the most part meals need to be around $20 or less.

Do you have three or four suggestions for places it would be a crime not to try before I leave?
