Thanks for all of the responses. I think I'm going to go with them. especially since it seems reasonably priced.
Sheva Brachot Catering in 5 towns area
I was thinking of using Carlos and Gabby's for a sheva brachot for ~30 people. Anyone have any experience with them or recommend (or recommend against) anyplace else?
Catered Lunch on the UES for under $10 per person?
Circa looks like they have for $12/head for dairy
Saturday night
Any half way decent restaurants open on Saturday nights these days? It's for a birthday dinner. Thanks!
kosher wedding at synagogue on long island
lvinduvin's husband asks if 5 years is really "several years ago" He would have thought that qualified more as "a few years ago". Nonetheless we were pleased with Beth El...
Kiddush catering in NYC

kosher wedding at synagogue on long island
I got married several years ago at Beth El in Cedarhurst and was quite happy with it. The prices were then below $100, but I have no idea now what they are.
Kiddush catering in NYC
My smallish Manhattan shul now uses Supersol for our standard shabbos kiddush catering on an almost every week basis (unless someone wants it from a particular place). We're looking for a cheaper option that is at least as good. Anyone know of any good options of places that would deliver to the Upper West Side for a regular, though not huge, gig?
Pareve birthday cake in Manhattan
A half sheet feeds 30-40 according to what they say. I ended up ordering from Chantilly since among the cheaper range they seemed to have done this before.
Pareve birthday cake in Manhattan
Here's my research for a half sheet cake:
Chantilly $65 +$5 delivery
Kosher.com $65 including delivery (but sounds like it might be their 1st time)
Butterflake $59 (don't know if they deliver)
Kosher Marketplace $150
Supersol $110
Sounds like I might be going with Chantilly
Pareve birthday cake in Manhattan
Any suggestions for where to get a pareve birthday cake in Manhattan? I know I can order from Kosher Marketplace (where do they get them from?) and I'm considering picking up from Butterflake. But I just wanted to know people's opinions and if there are any other options. Thanks!
Prime Grill really pricey
Does anyone know when the prices went up at prime Grill? Went last night and the nightly steak special is $64. It was $49 not very long ago. The food is really good, but $64???? And it doesn't come with fries or anything but garnishy stuff. Have the other places also gone up comparably?
Anyone tried Shabbos Shopper?
We recently ran across a website www.shabbosshopper.com. This establishment - Gourmet on J - based in Brooklyn delivers prepared food in the NY metro area what appears to be once a week in time for shabbos.
Has anyone tried them?
Also, does anyone know of any sephardic places that might deliver to Manhattan?
Kosher Indian?
There's a relatively new place called Tiffin Wallah on 28th just west of Lex. $6 for the buffet (plus tax) and it's quite good. http://www.tiffinwallah.us
It's the same Rabbi I believe as all the rest of the Indian places. I think it's the same owners as Chennai Garden a few blocks away, but cheaper, nicer ambiance and I think tastier
Smokey Joe's Recommendations
To set the record straight, we left at 9:00 and their advertised close time is 9:30, no last serving time as far as I know or posted mopping time. I think it's fair to expect no mopping until after the closing time.
Smokey Joe's Recommendations
Hey Jeter-
I'd be glad to discuss further or even go with you if you need a date. I was coincidentally there last night. For appetizers the guac and chips and Carnitas were quite good. For the entree I can't wholeheartedly recommend the beef fajita, the beef was a little on the dry side. The best entree at our table seemed to be the brisket sandwich, which was quite tasty and we shared some ribs which were good. i didn't have it but I was told the portobello burger was good. The mud pie was good, as recommended by the kind of officious waitress. Ambience is Dougie's-like and I think they were mopping before we left (a nice way to end a dinner with ammonia wafting into your nose). Anyhow, a good time was had by all.
Manhattan Restaurant Advice
Prime Grill all the way! It's my husband and my fav. place. Great food, almost always great service (an oddity in kosher places). We went to Solo once and it was also good, but you can't go wrong with PG. We tried Carne Grill last night and it was okay, but a second rate Prime Grill imitation at best.
