Searching for family-friendly restaurant stop near Woodbridge, NJ

Hi all,

I am searching for a lunch stop near Woodbridge, NJ that will have appropriate food and hopefully a little green space for the 2-year-old twins to run around a bit before resuming the 500 mile journey. It doesn't have to be exactly in Woodbridge. We are primarily looking for something that is about 3 hours from this stop:

435 Hartford Tpke # A
Vernon Rockville, CT 06066-4834

We would then also potentially be looking for another stop about 2-3 hours after that. The final destination is Ocean City, MD.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Family-Friendly restaurant stop near Woodbridge, NJ area?

Hi all,

I am searching for a family-friendly place to stop on our nearly 500 mile trip to the MD shore. We are interested in stopping about 3 hours after this stop:

435 Hartford Tpke # A
Vernon Rockville, CT 06066-4834

The Woodbridge, NJ area fits the bill, but needless to say we don't "need" to stop there. We are travelling with 2-year-old twins though, so we want to stop as close to about 3 hours as possible and hopefully have a place where the kids can run around a bit too. This would probably be a lunch stop as the previous stop is a breakfast stop.

Thanks for any suggestions!

July Trip Centered Around Dover, NH

I highly recommend La Festa in Dover for pizza. Wish I had discovered it prior to senior year of college. I haven't found anything comparable since!

Hodgies II I think is in Seabrook on Route 1. Definitely worth a stop for ice cream. If you like sushi and don't mind an hour drive, check out Dynamite in Hudson, NH on Lowell Road. It's worth the trip. If you are heading up north Polly's Pancakes is fun too.

Screaming for Ice Cream!

Took a drive to Uncle Ed's yesterday (4/25) only to find that it is not open yet. We ended up at Somerset Creamery, which never dissappoints. There was no sign in the window indicating an opening date, only a closed sign. :(

Lunch options in Nashua, NH?

Ohhhh yeah! I forgot to mention Seedling. Totally awesome. The website posts the daily specials. Call ahead - it gets busy for lunchtime takeout with a wait sometimes of up to 45 minutes! Yikes. It's been expanded since it first opened so there is much more seating inside too.

Lunch options in Nashua, NH?

My favorite when I go back to Nashua is Cedars Restaurant. It's a middle eastern sandwich shop. It's on Amherst St. (Exit 7W or 8) in the Market Basket/KMart/Sears Essentials plaza, but near Applebees/Blockbuster. I go every time I go to that area for a lamb kabob wrap.

Skymarket is a good suggestion. Dynamite Sushi is in Hudson, up 3A a bit, but not too far out of the way for a treat. The Dream Diner heading into Tyngsboro is good too - esp. for breakfast. Bella Italia, also heading that way across from Skate 3 is good and has a lunch buffet and lunch menu. Great fries and sandwiches. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays I think.

Screaming for Ice Cream!

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone travels past ice cream places and can report whether or not any are open yet or if they know when they will be opening? The slightest warm weather gets me craving a trip to the stand. Specifically I am interested in Uncle Ed's Front Porch. I don't travel that way too often and would have to make a special trip to check and they don't have a website.

Somerset Creamery's Somerset location opens March 25th.

Kimball's in Westford is opening April 1st, Jaffrey is opening April 15th, Carlisle on April 8th.

Anyone have any news to report?

Thanks!

DWH On the Border went south

We were there at the end of August I think and they told us they were closing in like 7 days. They were all shocked too. They said they were told that the location was not doing enough business. It sounded like they were going to try another one of their chains in that location, but nobody really knew. The waitstaff were looking for other jobs and not waiting around to see what happened. Did you see a "For Lease" sign at all? If not that would go along with the theory that they will open something else from their chain of chains. I didn't think it was that starved for business.

RI Dinner Club ...?

Cooking Light has popularized the idea of supper clubs on it's website. There is a dedicated portion of their website/bulletin boards for supper club members/organizers. The idea of the supper club is a group of folks that get together monthly to cook and eat great food. Recipes don't generally have to be cooking light I don't think. It seems like the club will pick a theme and choose the food around that. I've never participated - too busy with school right now. But you might check out their website for more info on how to organize or even find an already existing one to join.

Cote's Market, Awesome comfort food to take home - Lowell, Ma.

I have a recipe that I can post later. My Mom always made this and she says it is really easy, although I have never made it. It was soooo yummy though on toast. Or crackers with a bit of mustard. I've had it at a few places around NE but never as good as Mom's.

Nashua NH

Is that the one in the little strip mall across the street? It's been there awhile now? Maybe 2-3 years? If so, I've been. It's pretty good. Everything cooked to order. My nephew really likes it and goes a lot.

New authentic Asian restaurant in East Greenwich

Has anyone been yet? Seems pricey since there are no prices on the menu. Is it affordable for college students?

Top 5 Best restaurants in Rhode Island, Not fancy

Oy vey! Road trip! Thanks for the update!

Pork stock (or broth) ... why isn't it more commercially available?

I think you can buy pork soup base at Penzeys.

www.penzeys.com

I've used their chicken and beef soup bases and they are great, as are all their spices.

Vanilla beans in RI

How about 3 for $7.25? Check out Penzeys spices for the best spices around. There is a store in MA, but mail order is fine too.

http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeysvanillabeans.html

They have the best quality and price that I have found.

How about a NE "pizza tour" ?

All time favorite is La Festa Brick and Brew in Dover NH
300 Central Ave
Dover, NH 03824
(603) 743-4100

Unfortunately I discovered it during my last semester at UNH. I have been known to drive over an hour for their pizza though. Road trip from RI is definitely on the to-do list soon. They have awesome garlic knots and you can get garlic knot pizza crust too. Yummy!

ISO salted carmel ice cream in New Hampsire?

I think there was a salted caramel topping on the specials board at Uncle Ed's Front Porch ice cream in Rehoboth, MA last night when I was there. I've never had it so I just remember thinking it sounded interesting, but other than that did not take much notice of it.

Rhode Island- Do you have Ice Cream- Homemade

I went here last night - it was great! Thanks for the tip. I tried the Banana Chip, Raspberry Chocolate Chip and the Baileys Irish Creme and settled on the Baileys. It was really smooth and creamy and I did not miss having any crunch at all. Portions were small for the price, but the quality was so good I did not mind. Also, the single scoop I had satisfied my craving, so no need for more. The staff was very willing to let us try as many flavors as we wanted before we decided. Thanks again for the tip -

Editing to clarify that we went to Ed's Front Porch - the post did not place where I intended it to!

Kimball Farm - Jaffrey NH

Loyal Kimball's fanatic here just casting my vote. I've been to White Farm too. It's good, but not as good as Kimball's imho. A new favorite since I am in RI and it's not easy to get to Kimball's is Somerset Creamery on Route 6 in Somerset (obviously). I think also that for me anyway, there are different flavors I like at each place. For instance, I always get red raspberry chocolate chip at Kimball's, but would never dream of ordering that anywhere else. I get Blueberry Pie at Somerset and the same applies - would never order it elsewhere. Maybe all flavors are not created equal? I remember being very impressed with the amount of nuts/chips in the ice cream at White Farm, but not impressed at all in the overall flavor. In fact, the last time I was there (last summer) I threw out my first choice and bought a second only to leave with order regret anyway. :(

Top 5 Best restaurants in Rhode Island, Not fancy

I don't know if I can come up with five, but as a law student living in RI - cheap and good is important!

The Grape Room in Middletown is definitely right up there. Great RI style calamari and I LOVE the nachos. A friend said the lobster club sandwich was one of the best sandwiches she'd ever had. Link here: http://www.thegraperoomri.com/
Another recent favorite is Twist on Angell. I had the popcorn with chipotle lime butter and a four cheese pizza but added red sauce and meatballs to it - tasted just like a meatball sub! Friends really liked their sandwiches. Link here: http://www.pinellimarrarestaurants.com/twist_on_angel.htm
For seafood we like Evelyns in Tiverton. You can order at the window and eat outside on the picnic tables and don't need to tip. Be sure to take the ride down through Little Compton to Sakonnet Point or find South Shore Beach - follow Rte 77 south to a left onto Swamp Road and a right onto South Shore Road. It terminates at the beach. Littel Compton is heaven on earth in my opinion. Link here: http://www.evelynsdrivein.com/
Hmmm. Some of the best veal I've had since Sablone's closed in East Boston is at Angelo's on Federal Hill. It's cash only but they have an ATM. Get there early or plan to wait. Link here: http://www.angelosonthehill.com/
Number five is going to be ice cream. Love Brickley's down near Naragansett on Route 1 but a new fave closer to East Bay is Somerset Creamery. Try the Blueberry Pie ice cream - totally delish and you have to get a waffle cone. Link here: http://www.somersetcreamery.com/

Enjoy!

californian tackles new england

If you are ready to stop near Brattleboro, I always used to like the Chelsea Royal Diner. It's out on Route 5 to the west a bit, but really not too far off the beaten path. There also used to be a BBQ joint - only open in the summer - in the big blue school bus. Curtis' BBQ it's called. It's in Putney. If you like German food, another family favorite in Springfield is called The Fort. Here is the link: http://www.studentprince.com/

Have fun!

Great steak and cheese in NH?

Yes, just confirmed. It is at 1224 Gorham Street and was voted the best deli/sandwich shop in greater Lowell for 7 years.

Best Portuguese restaurants in RI?

I'm hosting family this weekend and they want to try a good Portuguese restaurant. BIL is a first generation American from Azores. Looking for your best suggestions - willing to drive a bit - as any Rhode Islander must be!

Thanks!

Great steak and cheese in NH?

A second vote for Cahill's Super Subs in Hudson. If you are willing to drive a bit...try Georges in Lowell. Near Plain Street - my Dad used to work at the Sears store there and it was a favorite of everyone. My parents just went back and tried them recently and they said it was just the same. Try it - you won't be disappointed.
