Greece & Turkey, looking for a few fabulous lunch spots

Check first to make sure they are open for lunch as many better places are only open for dinner.

In Rhodes, Marco Polo or Ta Kioupia, both in the old town. In the city center, try Indigo or Ergon.

I believe it has now closed. Saw a For Lease sign out front today. Very unfortunate as it's such a great location and a beautiful space. Needed a better concept, IMO.

Saturday Dinner in New Brunswick?

We went to Due Mari in 2012 and loved it. We went again a couple weeks ago and it was just OK. We really did not enjoy any part of our meal. Dessert was especially poor. Maybe we had overly high expectations because of our previous visit, but I don't think we will go back.

looking for a great burger near somerville?

I actually don't like 55 Main for dinner. However, I think their lunch is great!

Big decision! Agricola or Mistral?

The food is very good at both. I give Agricola the edge for ambience.

*Unpretentious* but special birthday dinner, preferably farm-y

I second Agricola.

The menu I saw did not have prices but I met the owner/chef and he told me that entrees would be in the 20-30 range and apps in the 10-12 range. Unfortunately, I tossed the menu I had, but it appears to be the same one Lyds references from Facebook above.

upscale in Princeton (or nearby) but child friendly?

Blue Bottle Grill in Hopewell is another good one. They are very accommodating for kids. My kids always order their delicious gnocchi.

Take a look at Blue Point Grill. No reservations but good food and lively atmosphere.

I'm excited for something new to fill this beautiful space, but I must say I am not intrigued at all with their menu. Looked kind of boring to me, especially considering their prices. Wish they would open for lunch, rather than dinner only. Hope to hear good feedback from other CHers, but I probably won't be a trailblazer on this one.

Crepe n Grill - Flemington

I just had dinner at Viva Mexico this evening. They are indeed moving in early November. I asked why, and the server said it was a "better location". It is smaller and out of the way, I don't know how that can be better. The good news is that they have good food and a decent following. Hopefully many customers, like myself, will follow them to the new location.

Destination Frenchtown

I, too, recommend the Lovin Oven. Also, the Bridge Street Café is decent. For dinner, you might take a ride up to the Milford Oyster House. I might skip the Mexican place.

Crepe n Grill - Flemington

I have heard that the Mexican restaurant taking over that space is none other than Viva Mexico, currently on Broad Street. This worries me terribly. I really like Viva Mexico and the family that owns it is very sweet. They have been in business on Broad Street for probably 10-12 years, a feat in Flemington. The Turntable Junction location is awful. I don't know of a single successful eatery back there. I hope this rumor is not true, and if it is I hope this does not mean the end for Viva Mexico.

Lunch in the area around Lambertville NJ or New Hope PA

In Lambertville, I like Marhaba for Middle Eastern food. In New Hope, I second the vote for Sprig and Vine. Delicious!

El Molcajete in Flemington

We made it over this weekend. Unfortunately, though, we were the only patrons in the place. I found it to be very authentic, quite tasty, and well-priced. The pork tacos were very good, the pork tamales, were just OK, and the chicken enchiladas verde were delicious. The chips were fresh and the salsa was HOT, but good. The family was very sweet. The A/C was not turned on, but it was a beautiful day and the windows were open, so it was very comfortable. My only complaints are that they don't serve tap water, so you have to buy bottled water, and also the dishes didn't come with any sides. Sides are a la carte. Considering the prices, though, this isn't really a problem. I will definitely go back.

Grill Shack in Flemington

Just tried this new restaurant yesterday for lunch. It's on Main Street where Uncle Pete's used to be (then became a Mexican restaurant). Nice casual menu for breakfast and lunch. The food was quite good. The black bean soup was a very generous portion and was very nice. The turkey Panini was also really good. Spicy and messy, but very good. I would definitely get that again. My friend got the Portobello wrap and said it was rather bland.
The prices were very reasonable and the service was very attentive. The owner came around to talk to the different tables. That's always a good sign for me. I hope this place does well as Main Street really needs a pick-me-up right now!

El Molcajete in Flemington

Just found out a new Mexican place opened up in Mexican on Old Croton Rd, (prior home of Back Road BBQ). A local family owns it. I haven't tried it yet, but I hear it is authentic and good. I'll report back once I go.

We had dinner on Saturday evening, and once again, it was delicious. The heirloom tomato salad was perfect. The tomatoes were wonderful as was the almond hummus that dressed the plate. I have never tasted anything like it before. For dinner, the scallops were excellent, cooked perfectly, and the accompaniments were wonderful. The only item that could use improvement was dessert. We shared the peach pie. The crust was nice, but the peaches just didn't taste "peachy". A little disappointing considering it is the summer and NJ has such wonderful fresh peaches.

Mad Chef Cafe in Flemington

I am sorry to hear this, but not surprised at all. Not only the food was bad and the prices were high, but the owner had a complete disregard for any constructive criticism. I really hope someplace decent fills the space. Flemington really needs it!

Madrid recommendations requested - with vegetarian options

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you but I will be visiting Madrid in 2 weeks, staying in the same area, and have the same request. If you find places that you liked, will you please post them? We do eat shellfish, but not meat and very little fish. How did you like Artemisia? It's on my list of places to try. Thanks!

Red Sauce Italian joints

If you look up red sauce Italian joint in the NJ dictionary, you will see a picture of Espo's in Raritan. Yum.

Stockton Market ~ restauarnt suggestions

Oh goodness - PLEASE don't go to Dilly's. It's awful. Just because you have a 2 year old doesn't mean you need to eat gross hot dogs on a picnic bench! There are so many other good options. First, in the market there are several good choices. Both the Stockton Inn and Lillys, IMO, serve mediocre food. The Stockton Inn, though, is historic and a nice setting. Down the road is Lambertville with many many good options. I'm sure you can do a search on Chowhound and find lots of opinions. Marhaba is nice and casual for your little one.
In the opposite direction is Frenchtown, again, with many options. My favorites are Lovin Oven and Bridge Street Café.
If you are not up for a road trip, just pick up something in the market. The BBQ is great and the Mexican is not bad. Delicious ice cream, too!

Good BYOs near Bridgewater, NJ?

While Blue Bottle is my fave, it is not an easy ride from Bridgewater. Some good places that are easier to get to are Matt's Red Rooster in Flemington and Brian's or D'Floret in Lambertville.

Agricola, Princeton

Was able to secure a reservation for dinner the other night. We had a wonderful evening. The space is a complete transformation from the old and stuffy Lahieres. It now looks fresh and energetic and very inviting. It's quite rustic inside but still manages to maintain an air of sophistication. The food was excellent. We had the kale salad and the octopus to start. Both were good, but the kale salad was outstanding. The cilantro dressing was light and refreshing and had just he right amount of acid. For dinner we had the arctic char, the mushroom flatbread, the scallops, and the pasta dish. They were all cooked perfectly, but the two stars of the evening were the pasta with fresh peas and the arctic char with quinoia and currants. Service was very friendly and attenive but not stuffy at all. The servers are young and hip but all seem knowledgeable. I found the prices to be reasonable for the quality of food and the overall experience of the evening. I highly recommend and will definitely go back.

Greek/Middle Eastern Places in Trenton Vicinity?

Had lunch over the weekend at Mikonos in Ewing. This is a very casual place, a little "diner-esque" I would say, and though the decor was a little disappointing, the food and service was great. Both the chicken gyro and pork souvlaki sandwiches were delicious. A little heavy handed on the lettuce perhaps, but the meat and tzatziki sauce were tasty and well made. The avgolemeno soup was authentic, hearty, and delicious. The spanakopita was probably the best I've had outside of homemade in recent memory. The greek potatoes were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked.
The prices here are very reasonable, the server was attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. Will definitely return soon.

PARC Brasserie - - Great find in Philly

Had a great meal the other day here. The basil cocktail is out of this world. The rabbit was absolutely delicious. Mussels were just OK. Coq au vin was very good. Bread was a winner, too. Great location and fun atmosphere.

Kyma ~ Sommerville

I was just there twice in the last month and I totally agree with you about the potatoes. They seem to use bottled lemon juice rather than fresh, so anything lemon-ey is just awful. The potatoes and avgolemeno soup being the worst offenders. They do have some great dishes, though. Chicken souvlaki is tender and well seasoned. Calamari is fresh tasting. Grilled pita and dips are awesome. Kefteda meatballs are very good. The spanakopita is just so-so. Vegeterian moussaka is good. You might want to give them another try, but do avoid anything with a lot of lemon.
