Canadian Chef Congress

It *was* spectacular. A day later, I'm still sad that I couldn't stay for the second day!

I've posted photos on the CRFA blog (www.crfa.ca/blog) and apparently there is supposed to be a group Flickr pool being created, so you might want to keep an eye out for that, too.

OT: Travel mugs

I can totally understand not wanting to give a branded product as a gift, but I have to be honest -- I'm switching back and forth between two different Starbucks travel mugs right now, and both have proven to excel in the keep it hot/cold department, and I've never had a single splosh or spill from either, even when dropped (my toe fared worse than the mug).

Maybe you could find out who the manufacturer is and see if they (manufacturer) sell a generic version?

Toronto's Best Mac and Cheese?

Best I've ever had was at Toast, but it looks like it's no longer on the menu. Which is a damn crying shame because it was incredible -- al dente pasta in a sharp yet mellow sauce, creamy and crispy at the same time. Boo.

In search of good, reasonably priced, authentic Spanish Tapas

I "third" the comment re: pricing. Unfortunately, imported ingredients cost a pretty penny ... the Palacio chorizo I buy here is in the $15 range, while the same product can be found in Madrid for around 3 Euros. Same thing for cheese, and wine.

The other thing to remember is that Spain is as gastronomically diverse as Canada is geographically diverse, so perhaps if you're looking for something that is authentically MadrileƱo, it would help to specify that.

That said, I'll be stalking this thread ... I miss Madrid, too!

Espresso pot

According to this thread (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/497345) you can get the Musa design (Bialetti) in St. Clair West ... I'm 99.99% sure that model is stainless steel.

Manitoulin Island recommendations?

I'm afraid that when I've been on the Island I've either been driving through or have been treated to home cooking, but I do know that there's a great little chocolate shop in Kagawong.

Who's got Clover?

I *think* that Coffeeholic on Eglinton (just west of Bathurst) has it, but I haven't yet been there myself to confirm.

Grace Suggestions?

Hmm ... looks like the menu has changed since I was there last so I can't recommend any apps or mains ... but dessertwise, the cheesecake is hands/forks down the best I've ever had. Ever.

Coffee at Danforth / Coxwell?

I like to support the independents, but honestly ... I'd be more than happy for a SC or a Sbux at this stage of the game. We're renovating our home in the area and are there for 12-hour stretches every weekend and we're at the point where we're taking breaks in the middle of the day to *drive* down to the Sbux at Leslie and Lakeshore. Gah.

Creme Brulee

Messis on Harbord serves up a luscious cb. About a year ago I met a fella who had never had it before -- or so he claimed -- and so we were off to Messis for his inaugural taste.

Coffee at Danforth / Coxwell?

Small World Cafe now appears to be open, but with hours that don't make a whole lot of sense (9-5 during the week). I was hoping for a local spot where I could grab a cuppa before and/or after work .... hopefully they're serious about these just being "temporary hours."
