TJ's Candy Cane JoJo's?

I bought 2 boxes the other day because everyone raves about it on CH. After a bite, I failed to realize what the commotion was all about.

Jack in the Box Tacos (new recipe?)

I tried them again today and they were still much more ground-beefy. Same location as my last visit.

Jack in the Box Tacos (new recipe?)

Eerily as it seems, I'm hoping this was just a one-time batch that didn't get processed enough.

Jack in the Box Tacos (new recipe?)

I just had their 2 regular tacos for 99 cents and it seems the beef inside is much more ground-beef-like and less pasty compared to before. I remember they use to be meat paste and now they actually have the consistency of ground beef. Surprisingly I think I like the paste better...

Fresh Coconut Recipes

I have some fresh coconuts but have never worked with them (fresh that is), besides drinking the juice and eating the flesh. Does anyone have any good simple recipes that can enlighten my day with fresh coconuts? Thanks =)

Rack of Lamb from Trader Joe's

Has anyone tried these? I always see some in the freezer aisle (frozen) as well as in the produce aisle (not frozen) but never purchased them. Their prices seem pretty fair.

Great Khan Mongolian BBQ?

There's nothing great nor mongolian about this establishment. Just a mere American corporate instaculture that caught on like stink on a monkey. I'm not sure what it is about their customers... perhaps it's the choice of picking their own low grade meat and exotic vegetables that really turns them on. I tried this place 3 times... and all three times there were loads of oil, not much flavor, over cooking, and melted styrofoam. I'm not sure what I tasted more the oil or the polystyrene but what I can say for sure was the wrath of whatever amalgam it was, 12 hours after I ate it.

AL NOOR, A Pakistani/Indian Restaurant in Lawndale - LONG REVIEW

I can't really believe he does all the cooking and cleaning himself. When I was there today, there was a busboy with wet hands cleaning the tables and from the glimpse of what I saw inside two other workers that did the cooking... how I know this? The owner was outside of the kitchen area the entire time to the point where we made our order to the time the food came out.

Churros at Cinnabon?

I seriously cannot imagine carrying something the length of my arm... in my mouth... while walking around at the mall...

seriously sounds like it could feed a small family in Macchu Pichu

Super Walmart Chicken

I've tried Super Walmart's fried chicken, chicken wings, and rotisserie chicken (both bbq and lemon pepper) and have to confess that it's the best market chicken ever.

I'm not sure what it is, but their fried crust is flavorful and their rotisserie is always juicy.

Even more, their prices are cheaper than the local Ralph's so for me it's a win-win situation.

Walmart chicken, you've won my heart.

BTW I'm not affiliated with Walmart in any way.

Seaweed Salad

Is there a way to get it less slimy? I reconstituted in water and rinsed it but it was a lot slimier than when I had it at food joints... is there some kind of trick?

Tell me what is so good about "In and out Burger"

The reason why In-N-Out cannot expand any more than to CA, NV, and AZ is because they only have one meat plant where they ship to a limited proximity since their meat cannot be frozen. That is what keeps their reputation and quality top notch. I'm sure eventually they'll set up more meat plants to the outer states but until then all the non-Californians are SOL.

Can mushrooms be confiscated if brought from Europe? Do they look for it in the x-ray machine or perhaps have dogs that are trained to sniff them out?

What's Your Favorite Korean Popsicle?

They indeed sell the coffee popsicles that you can break in half at all the Korean Markets in LA and SD

What's Your Favorite Korean Popsicle?

If ya'll haven't had the pleasure of tasting some of Korea's summer delectables, ya'll are in for some palate-pleasers.

I for one have an undying love for Screw Bar, Jaws Bar, and Watermelon Slice.

Screw Bar: Strawberry flavored pink and white swirl on a stick with a red inside. Use to be known as Screw 300 when it use to cost 300 Won each...

Jaws Bar: shape of a shark, purple grape flavor outside with a blood red strawberry flavor inside.

Watermelon Slice: looks like an actual piece of watermelon slice but on a stick, red on the top and green on the bottom, has chunks of chocolate watermelon seeds.

What are some of your favorites?

BTW you can find the Screw and Jaws Bar at the major Korean markets... as far as Watermelon, it's being phased out even in Korea.

potato fudge

sounds like a good treat... can you guys elaborate a little more on the recipe?

Ground Turkey Recipes

We started experimenting with ground turkey and made mini turkey burgers and turkey loco moco. Although they were good, the meat was a little dry. I'm thinking next time use some butter for extra flavor and texture.

Does anyone have any good advice to make the meat a bit more juicier? Or just good ground turkey recipes and ideas?

Odd Dining Experience

So for my birthday, my gf takes me to this fusion sushi place that is on the upscale level here in Valencia. First I ask the waitress what part of the cow the flat iron is and she persisted that it was next to the filet. (BTW it is part of the chuck in the top blade according to wikipedia).

We order a variety of dishes, including, fresh oysters, albacore tuna sushi, a rainbow roll, halibut, and some wagyu flat iron steak.

Our oysters arrive, supposed to be trio but there were only 2 types. Whatever, let's just eat it. The freshness of the oysters... let's just say had better days. After spitting it back out, I told the waitress about the unfreshness and asked her if she could take it off the bill. She willingly obliged. (Don't want food poisoning on my birthday)

Our next dish was the albacore tuna sushi which was utterly delightful. Couldn't have asked for a better dish, and contemplated ordering another.

Then came the wagyu flat iron, which exceeded my expectations.

Our rainbow roll comes, in a flaming dish, here is what is said on the menu
"Real blue crab mix, avocado, cucumber, and yellowtail inside.
Topped with white tuna and spicy tropical salsa, then set a blazed"
we didn't expect it to be cooked but it was our fault for not reading the description very well so we ate it. Anyways, the presentation was cool as heck.

so our waitress comes to our table and tells us that the sushi chef said the halibut was bad so he didn't want to serve it, so asked us if we wanted anything else and we just said we were pretty full, BUT, the food server came right behind her and said "halibut sushi" and was about to put it on our table and then she kinda grabbed him away from the table and they both went back into the kitchen whispering something.
It was kind of odd to say the least because if the chef thought the halibut was bad, why did he take the effort to cut and serve it for the server to bring. So I came to the conclusion that, they thought we had high standards and so we would've been dissapointed with the freshness of the halibut or that they don't even have halibut and were serving tilapia.

This incident has been lingering on my mind since last night, do any chowhounders have any theories as to what this meant?

Tipping: On The Receiving End Etiquette

I have a part-time job at a local mom n' pop joint where I work at the register and there's a tip jar right where the register is.

My question is... when someone puts a tip in there, do I say thanks, smile back, ignore them, or what? The reason why I find this sorta black and white is when I tip like that I've never heard a thanks and the workers just kinda stay silent and that seems to be the general consensus, BUT at casinos the dealer always says thanks when they get tipped and seem very gracious.

Grilled Pineapple at Carl's Jr.

Don't forget Island's has the Hawaiian which is a burger with grilled pineapple and teriyaki sauce...

I'd rather spend like $5-6 at Carl's rather than $12+ for the same meal at Islands.

Little Tokyo Catering?

Las Galas has all of those you mentioned... just talk to the owner (David) and he can pretty much come up with whatever your needs are. They deliver if you're within the vicinity so you may need to check with that. But overall they give you a gang-load of food with the best bang for the buck. I recommend their Chinese Chicken Salad (hands down the best in Little Tokyo), Teriyaki Chicken and Shrimp Yaki Soba

Favorite Hotdog Toppings

I made a Guadalajara Dog today with sour cream, tomatoes, and onions... mmmmm delishhhhh

What to do with unripe watermelon?

Add sugar and some cheap generic charcoal filtered vodka, put it all into a icebox, mix with your bare hands and arms, serve in red plastic cups like back in college, wake up next morning hankering for some pho

Favorite Hotdog Toppings

My all-time favorite hotdog is with some coleslaw and tomatoes...

I also like the sour cream and tomatoes

Also the 7-11 style toppings are good (onions, pico de gallo, jalapenos)

does anyone have any good recipes to share?
