oh my god I am so dumb. I can't believe I forgot about Tenzing. Thanks for the reminder.
Food myths that are useless/annoying, but are "common knowledge"
All food is waiting to kill you as soon as you turn your back.
EVEN THE SLIGHTEST RED SPECK MEANS A SALMONELLA MONSTER WILL CLIMB OUT OF YOUR FOOD AND STRANGLE YOU, AND YOU WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO CALL FOR HELP!!!
Food myths that are useless/annoying, but are "common knowledge"
That one was clearly invented by chefs who wanted to torture their staff.
Difficult to find ingredients
Hello everyone! Before I turn to the internet I was wondering if anyone knows if procuring the following within Seattle somewhere is possible:
whole Kashmiri chillies.
dried rose petals fit for consumption.
Iranian saffron.
Thanks everyone, and happy cooking!
Lamb steaks and a coffee rub or sauce
I brought home a couple of lamb steaks from the market. My first thought was some sort of Greek thing, but as I ponder dinner my mind went to the delicious Ethiopian coffee I grabbed the other day. It is ground coarse (French press grind) and has some delicious berry and spice notes, so I thought it would make a really wonderful rub or sauce for the steaks. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I would accomplish this?
Anaheim convention center eats
Ah, was my geekiness that transparent?
:)
It is my first Blizzcon! InNOut is on the list; I have been told that even a fast food hater like me has to do it.
Anaheim convention center eats
Hello all! In August my partner in crime and I are headed down to Anaheim for a big event. We want to know where to eat in between sessions of geekery. I'd love to know where locals go to eat. I am open to eating anything. I am really not a chain restaurant type of person, nor a fast food person, though I have been told I must make an exception for In N Out. If you guys could help me, that would be great. Especially interested in any really good ethnic food.
Good Foodie Spot in Bellingham/Fairhaven???
Point taken. I do need to try it and I admit I am spoiled by Seattle. I had a glance at their menu awhile ago and it smacked of trying too hard, but maybe I am being too cynical.

Mallard's is awesome. I have this thing for perfumey flavors, like lavendar and rose, and they do both amazingly well. I also tout the virtues of the Earl Grey. Nearby is Avenue Bread, which I spend a stupid amount of money at (danish with cream cheese, classic croissant, scones--only edible scone I've ever had in my life) and two streets up is the Old World Deli. Sadly I don't feel like we have many "high end" type restaurants, but little places with hidden gems are pretty common. Also check out the Black Drop coffeehouse for what will probably be the best coffee you've ever had. They roast their own beans and generally rock.
Quintessential Seattle
I love it when people complain about burgers tasting like beef. Wow has our collective palate gotten sad. Though, I will agree that unless you truly love bacon you ought to get something without. Their menu certainly lets you customize whatever you want, however.
Ramen in Seattle
I went there two nights ago. I am sure that the other posters who claim to have seen only white people aren't lying, but my experience was very different. My mother and I were some of the only white people there. I dig the ambience, personally. It isn't as though a dingy interior and trashy plastic decor somehow makes something more authentic. I have heard complaints about the drinks and food, but I thought it was all delightful. The yuzu cooler was particularly tasty, as was the mushroom soba. The only miss for me was the mochi sampler at the end. A lot of it was tasty, but I just don't think blueberry and cardamon go together. I would definately give the place a try.
Roasted Rabbit Heads
I just had an image of me with a slaughtered rabbit in a bag over my shoulder, walking into a Chinese place and asked them to cook the whole thing and roast me the head. I wonder what the reaction will be! I will post any progress, for sure. Now, where to get a fresh rabbit...
Seattle - good place to buy wine and champagne for event?
I like Seattle Cellars. They haven't steered me wrong thus far.
Best of Seattle - Help
Oh no, that's so sad! Good concept for a place, and I am all over any dining establishment that tries to use organic, locally sourced items. It's so sad to hear that they're on the decline.

Absolutely do NOT miss Salumi's. The wait (and there WILL be a wait) is totally worth it. I don't know if they have the caprese sammich as of right now, but if they do I am a big fan and reccomend it. It's even better if you carry it around for an hour or two before eating it. Canlis has good food but can be a bit stuffy...perhaps check out El Gaucho instead, if you're looking for a younger, designer casual crowd. I've been to Quinn's and didn't think the food was good, which made me very sad considering it is owned by the same person who owns Zoe, one of my favorite restaurants in all of Seattle. It has a very too cool for school Capitol Hill vibe, but it does have an impressive list of beers. I find Tilth to be quite lovely. I reccomend the duck burgers, though sometimes they have showed up overdone. Onion soup was also lovely, and a glass of apple cider is also nice if the night is cold and/or rainy. Scones at breakfast were a fresh take on an old favorite, but I found the meal at large to be hit or miss...perhaps they've learned their chops by now. If you like sushi, Umi Sake is good. Their squid was perfectly cooked when I went, and that is the only place I can say that about. Monkfish liver and fatty toro were superb. I like a lot of the squidgy bits that very few people want, and I felt as though they paid attention to what appetizers I ordered and reflected that in my omakase plate. Tentacles and roe and livers and fried fish bones nom nom! I also like Flying Fish. For breakfast and pastries, Macrina Bakery is your best friend. Get there early, order the fried egg sammich and some morning rolls. Get two.
Roasted Rabbit Heads
Haha! Well thank you, that's a good place to start, I'm guessing.
Roasted Rabbit Heads
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a place in Seattle's ID to get roasted rabbit heads? If you know of any other fiddly bits not usually offered to Westerners,do tell!
