Thanks. We do drive through Stayner on the way home, but Stayner's still about an hour north of Cookstown. Barrie's on the way, but it's still a ways away as well. I was looking for something a bit closer that I could link into the outlet small visit - maybe even in Cookstown itself. |

Fud, good new restaurant in Stayner, near Collingwood I second the recommendation for Reeds. We just ate there last weekend and it was a complete surprise. We have family in Meaford and have had to endure some really crap "fancy" meals over the years (the worst being Chalce Donica - just repulsive). Reeds, however, had sparkling service, imaginative food, and a well chosen wine list. Definitely worth the visit. |

My partner and I live in Toronto. We will be visiting his relatives in the Collingwood area next weekend and, as usual, will be dropping in at the Cookstown outlet mall around noon on Sunday to scope for deals. The foodcourt in the mall is sketchy and we usually end up eating at the Harvey's in the parking lot there. I was wondering if anyone could suggest alternatives in that area, even a exit or two earlier. Nothing fancy, just not the Harvey's or McDonald's at that intersection (Hwy 400 & 89). |

Chocolate Layer Cake (downtown) I didn't think this would be so problematic, but I am having a hard time finding a downtown baker to make a simple chocolate layer cake. No frills, just chocolate cake and chocolate icing. The places I've called keep trying to sell me on mousses, ganaches and almond flour. I know I can find one at a grocery store, but I am trying to find a cake crafted with a knowing hand. Any suggestions? |
