Roy Rogers - east of Cincy

Maybe my statement that the chain is dead is a little strong, but this might be the only location in the whole state of Ohio. It is also a better represantation of how good Roy Roger's resturaunts used to be than any of the ones I've eaten in on the Penn. Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway in NJ.

Roy Rogers - east of Cincy

I've heard that this location has changed it's name to Rooney's or something like that. Evidently the Roy Roger's chain is dead and this owner has broken any association with it. He is serving the same menu he always has.

Different name, same good food.

Dayton - Pho Mi Vietnamese Restaurant

While I was there I asked the young man who served me about the connection with Wah Fu. He said his parents were the original owners, but had sold it to his aunt about 10-15 years ago. I don't think I was there when his parents owned it, the first time I went was maybe 9-10 years ago. He said the lady who was always there when I went was probably his aunt. He also said his uncle who did all the cooking at Wah Fu is now working in the kitchen of Pho Mi.

I had the Pho with meatballs and a soft shrimp roll. To me it was very similar to both LInn's and Little Saigon. I usually add Sirachi and Hoisin sauce to my pho and that would probably cover any defieciency in flavor.

Being as I live near WPAFB and both Linn's and Little Saigon are a lot closer to me I will probably continue going to those places more often than Pho Mi.

Dayton - Stars at the Crowne Plaza

I guess the lack of any replys speaks volumes about this place.

Dayton - Pho Mi Vietnamese Restaurant

Just read the review about a new Vietnamese restaurant in the Dayton City Paper. The name of the place is Pho Mi and was wondering if anyone has tried it yet? It's behind the Dayton Mall and I wasn't even aware of it until I read this article. What really blew me away was the line saying it's "operated by the same family that ran Wah Fu".

I can't wait to try this place, the Wah Fu was a very interesting place to eat for a variety of reasons, but mainly because it was a cheap tasty lunch in the downtown area.

If anyone has tried Pho Mi, what did you think?

Double decker sandwiches in Cinncinati?

Fibber: what was the last chili parlor that closed in Dayton? Just curious, I'm only familar with the Goldstars and Skylines.

[Dayton OH] Smash Burger

Most of my life. Worked at the Sub House on Brown St. along time ago (a year after they first openned) and knew the original owner well. I still think they have the best cheese steak in Dayton.

[Dayton OH] Smash Burger

NikkI - I just had a pizza from Marion's and ordered it to be made in the 'old oven' and I noticed it was printed on the receipt 'old oven'. There must be a few people who order it to be made in the 'old oven'.

Another similar tip if you enjoy cheese steaks from the Submarine House is to order it made the 'original way'. They now normally toast the sub bun (like Quizno's) where as they used to place the split bun over the grilling meat and cheese. The new sandwich is a little drier where as the original way made a tastier sub from absorbing some of the steak flavor that is in the steam comming off the grilling meat, it also helped completely melt the cheese.

Best Sushi in Dayton, OH

Where in Fairborn is Saya?

Dayton, OH, need rec's for Steakhouse, Seafood, Sushi/Asian or your favorite, any cuisine

Pine Club is a good place to go for a steak. It's like stepping back in time to the 60's (I don't think it's ever been remodelled). You will need cash as they don't take credit cards. You shouldn't have any problem on a Wednesday night. Try the stewed tomatos for a local favorite side dish.

A German, two Italians and two Americans walk into a restaurant... [Dayton]

I know it's late, but if your staying at the Crown Plaza and want to try a local institution go over to Brown Street near the UD campus and go to the Pine Club for a good steak. And for the full Dayton steak house experience get the stewed tomatoes, no joke. One thing to remember is they don't take plastic, bring cash.

Hot Dog Help!

I agree, s/w Ohio especially is more burger centric than weiner. I recommended Tony Pacco's and Schmidt's because of their uniqueness as opposed to being like Pink's in LA. For that matter Skyline and Gold Star are unique to s/w Ohio and I for one appreciate them for what they are. The hotdogs they use aren't that good, but when you top them with Cincy style chili, cheese and onions, their a pretty damn good dog! And what I've heard about Pink's it's the variety of toppings that you can get that is one of the things that makes them so special.

If you want a pretty good tasting hotdog without all the special adornments, try the hotdog and coke deal offered at most Sam's Club's snackbar. For about $2.00 you get a 1/4 lb. Kosher hotdog and a big Coke. I don't remember if it has a natural casing or not, but it does taste pretty good.

First time ever in Ohio - Springfield questions

A short 20 minute drive to the East Dayton area (take I70 west to State Route 4 south) you'll find a couple of good choices for Vietnamese get off Rt.4 at the Harshman Rd. exit, turn left onto Harshman and right at Airway Rd to Linh's Vietnamese at 4770 Airway Road near Wright Patterson Airforce Base. For East European go to the next exit south on Rt. 4 (Webster St) turn right to Valley St. right on Valley St. to the Amber Rose, 1400 Valley Street.

Remember it is the Dayton/Springfield Metro Area.

One thing good about this part of Ohio is that your per diem will go a lot farther than in other areas of the country.

Hot Dog Help!

I've never been to LA or Pink's, but Pink's is on my list of hotdog places to visit someday. I don't think you'll find anything quite like Pink's anywhere in Ohio or the rest of the country for that matter. However, Ohio has a couple of it's own one of a kind hotdog(?) stands that are also quite unique. Try Tony Packo's in Toledo or Schmidts Sausage Haus in Columbus.

Need a Deli in the Dayton OH area

Just wanted to say I had lunch at Katzinger's in Columbus Saturday (7/10). Had a pastrami on rye and a potato latke. Both were pretty good, I still like Sappiro's better, but I would definely eat there in the future.

Cincinnati Chili Parlors

Most of these places have either table or counter seating and are very, very casual.

What can I get in Dayton, OH I can't find in LA?

Heck, you should ask if they have old ovens at any pizza place you eat at, not just Marion's. Marion's at least give you a choice.

I have requested this at the Marion's on N. Dixie Dr., the one in Beavercreek and as well as the Shroyer/Patterson store.

What can I get in Dayton, OH I can't find in LA?

Amen to the "old oven", I always request this when I eat at Marion's. Dewey's and Flying Pizza also use old style ovens.

What Chinese buffets have done to Chinese food, conveyer style pizza ovens have done to pizza.

Now THIS is Cincinnati! Here is the real deal ...

I ate at Rookwood a couple of years ago the food didn't do much for me, it was o.k. but I guess I expected something a little bit special given the history of the building and the above mentioned view.

As far as the OP goes my vote would be Camp Washington Chile for the chili and goetta.

I recently ate at this Roy Rogers and spoke to the owner and told him about this post. The food as always was great!

G-bucks you seem to know a lot about this establishment, you wouldn't be the owner would you?

Interesting Breakfast in Dayton area - aside from Yellow Springs?

Have you tried First Watch? I know it's a chain, but you will find some things on their menu you won't find else where. They have 3 locations; 1 at the Dayton Mall, 1 at Town & Country Shopping Center and 1 across from Wright State. Another chain you might try is the Original Pancake House on 725 between the Dayton Mall and Centerville (ditto some different things on their menu).

There is also a lady at the 2nd Street Market who makes crepes.

Dayton Area - Seeking Affordable Non-chain Restaurants

Last time I ate there I didn't think they were very friendly, probably why I haven't been back.

Dayton Area - Seeking Affordable Non-chain Restaurants

I haven't ate at the Sahara Deli in years (probably 15 years or more) is it any good? I'm sure it has changed hands several time since I last there.

An Education for Carnivores

If your school has a school of agriculture, you might want to check with them. They might be able to suggest who to contact.

What can I get in Dayton, OH I can't find in LA?

There aren't any Empress Chilis in Dayton.

I'll have to try Ramiz's and 5 Star, thanks for the info.

Roy Rogers - east of Cincy

It may be a cash machine for the owner, but that owner is there everytime I'm there. He must work everday of the week and rarely takes a vacation.

Memories of deep fried McDonald's Apple Pies

Popeye's Fried Chicken has deep fried apple pies, there pretty good.
