Daytona Ormond area rec

Billy's Tap Room in Ormond is consistently good. Crab Cakes are best I've had in Florida (not quite Baltimore good, but still good). Steaks have always been good, cooked as requested and the sides are good. Bread pudding is a standout dessert as is the carrot cake. Full bar and it's been there in the same location forever (owners have changed, but they kept the winners on the menu). We've been going there for over 25 years (and we live 200 miles away) 4 - 6 times a year.

Chattanooga Reccomendations

I know that it has been a while since you posted but may I ask what you think of Hennen's downtown. I agree with your reviews above ( I have been to 90%). Also, Abuelo's Mexican (Hamilton Place) has some great carnitas tacos on the bar menu (lots of cilantro) and a pork loin dish which is also fantastic. Some of the best Mexican food I have had in Chattanooga. Have you been?

Clark's Fish Camp - Jacksonville

Ditto. The only reason to visit is to look at the building/setting. Have a drink, tour the area and leave.
When we visited, even the waiter tried to steer us toward edible dishes. Save your money!

Piggy's BBQ on Capital Circle, Tallahassee

Drove 80 miles to try this spot this afternoon. WOW. I did not note that they are closed in the middle of the afternoon. Boo Hoo! Went to Famous Dave's just because we had thought about BBQ all the way on the drive.
Famous Dave's has a great bar scene, lots of locals, great staff, and we enjoyed a really good afternoon meal & drinks.

Charleys Crab reviews? OR any great crab houses around Palm Beach?

My wife & I had dinner at Jakes Stone Crab Restaurant in Boca Raton Monday night & they have stone crabs. Mediums, Large and all you can eat specials. Their early season stone crabs come from the Bahamas but taste the same as Florida in season stone crabs. The service was excellent, the crab claws were great, the mustard sauce was very good. & we didn't have to wait until Oct 15. Martinis were mixed by the owner (David Leschen) and were perfect. We will return to this wonderful spot next and probably every visit to the area.

Apalachicola: Need recommendation/dinner/room

I haven't been in a couple of years. Milestone anniversary coming up.

I humbly request recs for dinner and hotel in late September.

The Gibson Inn looks good based on websites, but so do some of the others.

View and (of course) the food is most important. Oysters, required.

Please help.

Is the anything GOOD in Fort Myers!!??

Icabod's is THE place to go in Ft Myers for draft beer selections. Best I've found in Lee/Collier cntys. Great Pub atmosphere & the food is good and the portions are more than generous. Good value for the area. Food selections rival Cheesecake Factory (without the high prices).

North Naples Italian-Mercato

On my latest visit to Naples (8-24-26/09), one of my dealers took me to lunch at Piola on Monday (9118 Strada Place at the east end of Mercato) in North Naples. What a great find. I had a Reggio Emilia pizza with sausage, tomato sauce and mozzarella ($12.95) . It was very thin crust with the freshest taste of any pizza I have had in recent memory. Cooked perfectly done, with edges just showing some dark brown spots. My host had Buenos Aires (white pizza) with onion and mozzarella ($8.95). I have not cared for white pizza in previous tries, but this was delicious.
I returned to Mercato on Wednesday evening intending to try The Pub, but after 1 beer a the bar and looking over the menu (there was a screaming baby killing the sound level) and finding nothing appealing there, decided to return to Piola for my second visit in two days.
I had Penne Cividale ($12.95) with a glass of the house chianti. The pasta was cooked just right with fresh tomatoes, cream, Parma ham, parmesan cheese and rosemary. What a great dish. The chianti was very good for house.
For dessert, I asked my server for her favorites. One of her's was Profiteroles. Now it is one of mine. Two cream puffs split with vanilla ice cream between and chocolate sauce were the perfect ending to a very good meal.
Thanks to Ashley for her excellent suggestion and service.
A very casual, contemporary setting with about 25 tables and perhaps 12 places at the bar. Wine and beer only
Yes, it's a chain. But a refreshing change to other pizza/pasta places.

North Florida/Georgia "Real" Barbecue

We drove 80 miles today just to try Smok'n Pig. The pork was undercooked, gristly, with no smoke flavor. The sides are straight off the Cysco truck. This is a chain (worse than Sonny's), just with an expanded menu. The tea was so weak, it was barely flavored water. Sauces are standard store-bought stuff. What a waste of a meal.

North Florida/Georgia "Real" Barbecue

GA Pig has been a do NOT miss stop for over 20 years. Staff/managers have changed many times, but the PORK (PIG) BBQ and the sauce have remained one on my top 10 BBQ joints. Their tea is special due to the unique water supply. Ordering ribs and diet coke is like going to Bern's Steak and ordering chicken & beer. Ribs & brisket are not BBQ, just smoked ribs and smoked beef.
To beteez: I'm not a 'northener' and have had BBQ in most every county in VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, AL + many spots in TX, KS, etc. Including most other spots around Brunswick.

Oktoberfest, Tallahassee

We ate dinner last night at Nino's on Apalachee Parkway for the first time in many months.

The Cheese Board (from the appetizer menu) was excellent and an unexpected gem for this area.

My wife had the evening special, Chicken Cordon Bleu. It was cooked perfectly, crisp on the outside and moist/tender inside. The soup of the day was a white pumpkin/ham hock blend of various vegetables ( I almost didn't order because of the ham hock label, I'm not a fan) turned out to be very good. Sort of a hearty vegetable stew properly spiced.

I had the Weiner Schnitzel with spatzle and red cabbage. I love good veal and it very difficult to find in this country. Chef Pascal's version is exceptional. The meat itself was tender, perfectly done and worth a return visit. Chef and his wife have done a great job since taking over.

They are having their annual Oktoberfest this Sunday, October 12 from 1:00 - 5:00. Very informal get-together with Becks, Americal Red Ale, Goldschlager, Jagermeister, Knockwurst, Bratwurst, goulash, potato salad, etc with Oompah band, and special events for the children.

A little out of the way, but well worth the short drive.

Moving my daugter to Tallahassee: Tired of the old thread

My wife & I have enjoyed every meal we have had at Silver Slipper. It's been in Tallahassee forever. We always insist on Joyce as our server. The steaks are always first rate, all seafood has been great as well. We have taken world travelers from SanFran there and they loved it as well. I know it is a little "shop worn" around the edges, locals seem to never mention it; BUT the food is always super, the drinks correct and the prices fair. It's stayed in the same family ownership and while the food is not the latest fad fare, they get the traditional items (steaks, seafood, baked potato, salads) perfect. When we are in Tallahassee and want a really good steak, it's our dependable 'old reliable'.

Looking for something good in GainesviIlle

MT's Chop House is worth the $$$$ if you want great steak & service. Best in Gainesville area.
Conestoga's is ok for hamburger steak & a beer.
Floyds Diner in High Springs may be the worst diner in FL. (I haven't tried them all).
Newberry's Backyard BBQ serves what Sonny's throws in the trash.

Where to eat downtown Chattanooga..local style?

Hinnen's (193 Chestnut St) just down from the Aquarium is the best in town for steaks. Local owner, great steaks/meat and good atmosphere.
St John's (1278 Market St) is a don't miss (the chef/owner trained at Commander's Palace) and most of the food is grown locally by speciality farms.
212 is highly recommended, but I have not been. Big River Grille is a good brew/pub and has grown to Jacksonville/St Augustine area of Florida (under different name).
Mt Vernon has not been a good place to eat in over 40 years.
