How About Some Updates On Qing Hua Dumpling

I went to QH once since they moved (about 3 months ago) and it was ok. The service was fine....and the dumplings tasted decent (however I did notice the price was higher...around $8 to $13 per order of dumplings). I also ordered the duck feet and spicy pork tongue and cucumber which was pretty good however I don't plan to return.

When I am in that area....I prefer Maison du Nord (even though their service is a hit or miss). I would start off with the Pork sandwich, and then ease into the Beef Noodle Soup (always take handmade noodles option) and then end it off with an order of steamed dumplings. By the time I am finished, you will need to roll me out the door!

Shattered is right....the Noodle Factory is a great place. They make the real soup dumpings....called Xiao long bao. Mmm...served with a vinegar dip and slivers of ginger....I definitely prefer this specific dumpling over those perogie dumplings from QH and Maison.

Cheap Eats in Calgary?

I will be in Calgary (first time and very excited) on the 24th of June for 5 days and will report back after the trip. I just hope I have enough time to check out most of the suggested places as well as making a trip to Banff (definitely going to put up a few Banh mi for the trip). I recently spoke to a co-worker who mentioned something about sushi served on a model train in Banff....I will have to check that out as well. Hope the sushi is good.

Thanks to all for the great suggestions (and I love this country from end to end!!!)

Cheap Eats in Calgary?

Thanks... John. Some great suggestions....I will definitely try some of your spots. The shawarma sounds very good....I am looking forward to sampling that one. Just a side question....is there prov. sales taxes on food in AB? Most of the vietnamese places I go to in Montreal have the taxes (GST and PST) included in their prices.

Cheap Eats in Calgary?

Coming to Calgary from Montreal and looking for some cheap places to eat at. I am open to try anything....all cuisines across the board. There are no picky eaters in our group however one person doesn't eat pork.

QING HUA DUMPLING

I went last weekend based on the glowing reviews found here. The place was very plain. The girl served us without a smile (like she didn't want to be there). I ordered their special meat noodle soup, pork and coriander dumplings (steamed) and shrimp dumpling (steamed). It took over 25 minutes to get the food (which I expected based on this board).

The $9 soup was good and I would recommend that you try it. The dumplings were nothing to rave about (I've had much better in Toronto). I was unimpressed with the restaurant set-up...the way they have the condiments laid out on the counter near the cash and the use of cafeteria type tables. I would have expected lower menu prices for this type of set-up and location (which is off Sainte-Catherine). I am a regular of Prosperity Dumplings in NYC (5 pork/chive dumplings for $1) and for the prices they charge...I was expecting better service and ambiance.

Service was sub-par. No one came over to check on our table. Sorry I was just expecting more from this little place. I will have to return and give it another try as this dumpling place is unique in Montreal (and I just can't eat at those Soup and Noodle places anymore). Thanks for sharing this place....I will give it another try and report back.
