Late Night Good Eats in San Francisco...on Sunday?
I get in SFO on a late flight. By the time I get my rental car it will be about 11:15pm. Any places open late on a Sunday? Any suggestions appreciated.
Solo Diner in San Francisco - where to eat?
Hi. I will be in San Francisco for work and will be eating solo for most meals. Where are some of the best places to eat at the bar? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Polish picks - dinner tomorrow
I'd like to get in some good Polish food before leaving Chicago. Is there a good place downtown -- I'm staying at the W Lakeshore Hotel, but am willing to travel for the right place. Oh, and I'm a solo diner, not that I care sitting by myself.
Thanks for your help!
Xoco - What's your favorite?
I'm going to Xoco tomorrow for lunch and wanted to hear from some of you about what's your favorite thing there. The menu looks great -- I need some help!

Tom Douglas restaurant decision help needed!
Hi. So I am having a work 'meeting' over dinner for four people and was told to pick a Tom Douglas restaurant. They all look good. Lola looks the most interesting to me, just bc I like Mediterranean food -- but is it more of a breakfast/brunch place? Should I just go with either Palace Kitchen of Dahlia Lounge? What about Etta's? Serious Pie is out bc I don't want to take them for pizza (even though it looks delicious).
Criteria:
- good food
- atmosphere where we can hear each other speaking
- lighting semi good (not dark and romantic)
- not too casual / not too stuffy
A nudge in the right direction would be appreicated! Thanks!
Seattle Help - I've done my homework first, just needs refining
Thanks, mrnelso! You are definitely helping refine my list, as I'm sure I won;t be able to tackle all on first visit. So I will definitely go to Poppy, with or without another diner. I'll follow my nose and stomach at Pike Place and check out the ones listed above when I'm there. And Brasa looks really prmising -- I guess I'm a small plate/pinchos/tapas kinda guy. And I'm hoping one of the gelaterias is serving nutella gelato that week. mmmmmm.

How about the Red Mill burger? Worth it?
Best Restaurantants for Foodists in Dupont / Logan Circle / Thomas Circle
Bistro du Coin is fantastic. Great steak du maison with some delicious pomme frites. Fun atmosphere. Cheap champagnes by the glass and bottle.
Seattle Help - I've done my homework first, just needs refining
Great reply, Paqpln! I especially like the Po Dogs, Cafe Presse and George's Deli recs. And yeah, nopt a die-hard donut guy, so can probably skip Top Pot and save room for other deliciousness.
Still curious about Poppy's. Can someone explain the Thali, Smali, etc., concept?
Julia's Empanadas
Hi, I'm trying to recreate a few empanadas from Julia's -- the chorizo, jamaican, and the turkey. Any thoughts on some of the specific spices? Anyone have good recipes for the dough? And what type of chorizo do they use? Mexican?
Seattle Help - I've done my homework first, just needs refining
I'm going to be in Seattle for 3 days/3 nights for work. A good portion of dining will be done on my own. So I'm trying to figure out where I can go both alone and with someone. I have gotten some good recs from past posts and topics, but please help me refine my choices or add to the list. I've included some links for other Seattle first-timers as they ready their own eat-lists.

Koshary in DC? Or Egyptian Restaurant?
Hi. I'm going to Cairo for a few days next month and want to try some Egyptian food before I go so I can know what to order. I also want to try Koshary before I go. PLease let me know if you know of a good place in DC or in the DC metro area. Thanks! Also, feel free to suggest good places in Cairo too.

Cairo - recs on food, food souvenirs and restaurants
Hi. I'll be in Cairo later this August and am looking for all sorts of recommendations. What should I be eating? Which restaurants can't be missed? What should I bring back to the States with me - spices, non-perishables I can only find in Egypt, etc. - and where do I find it.
Thanks in advance for the help. I'm game for anything, just want it to be really good.

Pizza in NOLA - where?
Hi. Promised my vegetarian friend we can get pizza somewhere tonight (she's been a good sport and has allowed me to eat-at-will here thus far). Any good pizza recs? Is Louisinana Pizza Kitchen good?
Vegetarian-friendly recs?
Thanks! I've also been reading that Bennahcin is really good and has some great veg options. Not typical NOLA fare, but unique in its own right.
What should I get at Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery?
Thanks, Mike! I'm looking forward to it!
What should I get at Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery?
I want to go there for lunch, but would like recs as to what to order. Obviously a sandwich on their banh mi -- but what kind? And should I get something to go with the sandwich?
Vegetarian-friendly recs?
Hi. I'm going to NOLA with a friend who is vegetarian. But I am a pretty serious meat eater. Any recs that will satisfy both of us and is very typical NOLA?
Dinner in Nara
I am going to be in Nara for one night, during the Tokae Festival when they light up the park and other places with candles. Are there any recommendations for dinner, and maybe lunch too. Are there places outside for dinner where I can enjoy the viewe? Thanks again everyone! I leave for Japan on Saturday!

Tipping advice in restaurants...
I am going to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara next week and will be eating at a variety of restaurants -- in both food and price range (thanks to everyone's great suggestions!). One thing that I'm still unsure of is tipping. My Japanese teacher from Yokohama said that no one tips in Japan and that the difference is included in the wait staff's higher wages, as opposed to wait staff in the States. But I am going to some higher-end resataurants such as New York Grill. Please help me so I don't do anything disrespectful (or follish).

Food Souvenirs - what to get and where to get it?
Sounds great. Exactly what I was asking. I just returned from Africa where I brought back a bunch of spices and some South African chutneys that I can't find in DC (or which would be super expensive). So I'm looking to do the same when I go to Japan (I leave next Friday). Nyleve -- did you do any guided tour of Tsukiji?
Thanks again!

Food Souvenirs - what to get and where to get it?
I enjoy cooking, and the type of 'souvenirs' I like to buy myself are different types of food items (vinegars, sauces, relishes, etc.) that I can't get back in the States or that are usually really expensive in specialty food markets back home. What should I be looking for and where should I find it? I will be in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe (and maybe Koyasan) in August. Anything that I cannot pass up? Thanks!

Koya-San - worth it?
Thanks so much, prasantrin and Nyleve! I think I'm going to go for a night. And I found some more picture and info on Ekoin. Looks great.
Koya-San - worth it?
Is it worth going to Koya-san for 1 or 2 nights? Or should I just stay in Osaka. Any food recommendations? What temples have the best accommodations and food? Thansk for the tips.

Recs for Osaka
I am going to Osaka for 3 days after being in Tokyo and Kyoto. I've gotten so many great recommendations for places to go and tings to eat in Tokyo and Kyoto, but there have not been many threads on Osaka. Can anyone provide some thoughts? I'm into anything and all prices. Thanks so much! I look forward to your thoughts.
