What about the Bronx?
I live and work in the area, so here is my 2cents. Patricia's is good, a nice supermarket a little further down MOrris Park (Big Deal), nice deli's along the way(Ann Clairs). As for good beer, head down towards Throgg's Neck, a big beer distributor Skibbo's has everything. Some restaurants down that way as well, Irish Pubs (Paddy Dougherty's The Fiddlers Elbow), Italian Family Style (Patricia's II-much nicer to sit in than Morris Park, Spoto's), Spanish sit down and take out(Latin Kitchen). There is a lot of good Spanish food all over the borough( El Bohio), Jamaican as well(Vernons). Bars you might like to try; Coals, head over to Katonah Avenue, Irish section, lots of bars w/all kinds of European Beers on tap. (Some say the best Guinness anywhere - Rambling House) Plus at AECom you are close to Arthur Avenue. Be adventurous, and not too serious, not a lot of "fancy places", but most places are good and welcome to the neighborhood.
Best Bacon for Home Cooking in NYC
Whole Foods and Trader Joe's carry bacon from Neiman Ranch. Pretty good. I recently was in Pennsylvania, in a regular supermarket, and I couldn't believe how many types of bacon they carried. Lots of good choices.
Black and White Cookie
Thanks, I get to Astoria pretty often, but haven't tried any bakeries. I used to be able to get good B&W in most bakeries, but not anymore. I can't stand to see them wrapped in plastic wrap in a bakery. Makes me think the whole lot of their products are not baked often.
Black and White Cookie
I can't find a decent one anymore. It is supposed to be a cakey cookie not cake, it is supposed to have vanilla and chocolate glaze, not frosting. I would love it if someone could give me ideas in the Bronx, or Midtown, but any suggestions will be considered
Food at Villa Barone Manor or Marina del Rey in the Bronx
Congratulations. I have been to both many times. If you ask me on food they are a draw. I haven't had better food at any of the Beach Clubs in New Roc either. I think most places have pretty good food, especially if you have a lot of out of staters coming. The MDR location is better, you can hopefully get some really awesome night time pictures w/the bridges in the background. The Manor only has it's own interior for pictures. This is a plus for your guests as well, my co worker got married @ MDR a few years back and we took loads of pictures outside of each other. Plus during the cocktail hour we were highly amused by a random raccoon leaning against the windows! Make sure you express to the maitre d' that you are concerned about the issues that have been brought up, and you will not tolerate it. Once they acertain that you are aware, and involved they usually pick up their game.
Riverdale Restaurants
Nonno Tony's is not all bad, don't order the pizza. The pasta dishes are usually good. The specials are usually the best bet. If they have fiorentino pasta on the board, get it.
Hidden Gems in the Bronx
I don't know what the allure is w/Frankie & Johnnies, big portions and not much else. Tosca is allright, good drinks, nice atmosphere. Good Thai food at Honey's Thai Pavillion Westchester Ave. El Gran Bohio is THE PLace. Latin Kitchen on E Tremont is nice. Italian Deli - G&R on Williamsbridge.
