Hatch Chiles - Get Em While They're Hot

Nob Hill Foods in San Ramon is clearing out their Hatch Chiles for $5 a case - that's a 23 lb monster box (or 1/9 of a bushel if that's the measure you go by) at a $19.99 savings.

I have no experience cooking with these although I have heard great things about them. For $5 - it's worth a try and roast some yourself.

They have mild and hot, about 10+ cases left at last count 5 pm, October 1. San Ramon location only.

Do you really need to rest your arm on the table to eat?

For all of us who suffer from bad backs and blown out disks, supporting your body weight on your elbows relieves some of the stress on the back, It was a method taught to me in physical therapy and it is the only way I can sit through a meal, It may be uncouth, but whatever works...

SF Healthy surcharge?

We ate at Jardiniere. We didn't notice any mention of a surcharge, but who would think there is any reason to look for at anything but the courses on a menu?

If anyone has eaten there, maybe you can enlighten us if it was on the menu.

SF Healthy surcharge?

Thanks for your replies. I agree, I empathize about everybody needing health insurance, but I want to know up front. It's too late after I've eaten my meal and the bill is slipped under my nose to sign - at that point there's no going back. This was especially annoying since it was a very expensive restaurant.

Is this a recent thing and is it legal?

SF Healthy surcharge?

How common is this? We had dinner and I saw this additional charge tagged onto the bill.

The bill was $130 - the SF Healthy surcharge was about $5.20. I've never heard of this before. The waitress explained it was to cover the mandated health insurance for staff.

Although I understand the cause, I think it should be mentioned up front and not a surprise when the bill comes.
