Vitus, depending on how much choice y'all need at your breakfast place, Urban Grind at 221 Brady in Davenport could be a good choice. The breakfast menu is limited but what they do, they do very well. And very good coffee, too.
Little Rangoon II in Rock Island?
While I know that this is far too late to be of any use to Anne, I thought I'd better mention that Little Rangoon II, on John Deere Rd, has closed. The original Little Rangoon downtown is still open.
If you've never had Burmese, the one thing that you should probably be aware of is that it's spicy, but not but not hot like chili or strong like horseradish/mustard/wasabi. It's more that the spicing is not subtle.
Little Rangoon is an excellent place to give it a try.
Kifla recipe, please?
This is so wonderful! I've googled Kifla occasionally for years looking for a recipe, ever since Elizabeth Ratz (who went to St.Michaels in Aurora) gave us several every year that my mom did her taxes for her. (that was back in the 70's.) I got loved it, and never could find a recipe that was quite what she made -- too sweet, too heavy, too many flavors in the filling, always something. If you'd post recipes that would be fabulous, and if you find out if St Mike's is going to put out a cookbook, I'd sure appreciate a head's-up. I moved away from Aurora years ago.
