Absinthe in the quarter?

Any bars in the French Quarter that serves real absinthe?

Frozen Custard - Buffalo

Any recommendations for frozen custard in Buffalo or on the way to Canada?

Zweigle's - where to find in Buffalo (restaurant)

Thanks for the info, will also go to Ted's. Only getting the Z-word to make my transplated Rochester friends jealous.

Zweigle's - where to find in Buffalo (restaurant)

Any restaurant in Buffalo I can find Zweigle's?

Dim Sum in Houston

Definately Ocean Palace, very authentic. Looks like a wedding reception hall and don't expect explanations of the food in english some of the time. But if you have a group be adventurous and try everything the rolls around in carts by you every 90 seconds. Incredible

Fondue in Houston

Any Fondue restaurants or places that have good fondue in Houston? Besides the obvious Melting Pot.

Houston "fresh" pickles

Does anyone know a place that makes their own pickels in Houston? Looking to buy some to take home.

Italian Beef - downtown

Where is the best place for an Italian Beef sandwich in downtown?

Dessert - downtown Chicago

Is there any great dessert places in downtown Chicago?

Looking for anything that is unique or just downright incredible tasting.

Steak in the Clear Lake area

Killens has the best steaks in the "clear lake area" yes it's in Pearland but worth the drive. Yes, the meat is the star, your only option is a crab topping with butter.

If you need anything else besides salt and pepper - you might as well do cheap meat. Killens has prime and tx style kobe.

A close second would be Perry's steak house. Really depends on how you like your steak cooked. Killens has a better char, but Perry's adds just a touch of butter.

kefir in NASA (HOU) area

http://www.ermasnutritioncenter.com in Nassau Bay - they have a farmers market every Saturday from 10am - 2pm. Normally a lady has the Kefir, goat cheese etc.

There is also a farmers market in Clear Lake Shores - 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month
http://sites.google.com/site/farmersmarketatcls/Home - same products, just a little farther from Friendswood

Prime Beef at Costco

You got it DallasDude. It's absolutely crazy that most steakhouses actually use the term "Kobe". The Akaushi is technically 100% and not crossbred, but it really isn't the same (not even close, it's still good though). You can get it in Dallas and Houston for about $80 for 8oz at some places.

But don't be fooled real "Japanese Kobe" is basically steak flavored butter. Awesome stuff, but really hard to find. You know it's the real thing if the price tag is around $20 per OUNCE ($160 per 8oz). That seems to be the going rate in Vegas, LA, and in Houston (now it's special order in Houston only- Killens Steakhouse - off the menu).

La Kings - Galveston

Anyone know if "La Kings" is open in Galveston?

Any other recommendations for a fun place for kids in Galveston?

Brenham - lunch

Any places to recommend in Brenham, TX for lunch?

Looking for a casual, maybe even a dive, that's all about the food.

Texas de Brazil vs. Fogo de Chao

Great choice, Fogo used to be worth the difference. But now they have trimmed quality of meat and dessert. The chocolate cake isn't made to order anymore - it's complete junk.

Enjoy Texas de Brazil!

Tamales by the Dozen in Clear Lake Area

Alamo Tamales - http://www.alamotamale.com/

They are located on Highway 3 and Clear Lake City Blvd. Next to one of the millions of Starbucks. New shopping strip just south of the Exxon, next to Sonic.

I doubt they make them there. It is a satellite store from their factory, but they are always fresh (delivered every day?)

They have the basics and can special order the others.

Houston to Brenham road trip, burger?

Going to Brenham next week, any suggestions for place to eat along the way or when I arrive.

I'm BBQed out, maybe a unique Hamburger joint?

Houston Pie (dessert) recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good place to get pie in Houston? Doesn't have to be a restaurant, can be a "pie shop" (Flying Saucer etc).

Had to mention "dessert pie" not pizza, just in case of confusion.

HOU Hottest Curry or other dish?

Which Thai places? Every time I go to a Thai place they ask:

1 to 5 stars, I say "7"
How spicy - I say "Thai Spicy"

Most places even warn me "no refunds" but still nothing ever matches up to real "Thai spicy." So if you know of a place please let me know.

Houston - food "challenge"

Are there any "food challenges" in Houston? Eat this and you get your name on a wall etc.

I saw one at the "Little Bitty Burger Barn" which looked good, but are there any others?

Houston to Dallas Roadtrip

Any Ice Cream places? You can only eat at so many Dairy Queens . . .

Houston to Dallas Roadtrip

Anyone have any food recommendations between Houston and Dallas? Really anything that is unique to the area (not something I can find in Houston).

Kansas City - best "burnt ends"

Just got a recommendation for Woodyards for the burnt end sandwich, anyone else tried this?

Kansas City "Legends Mall" - Saturday night

Any recommendations in the Kansas City "Legends Mall" area?

Looking for a place for Saturday night that has great food, price really isn't a concern.

"Burnt Ends" in Houston?

Do "burnt ends" exist in any bbq place in Houston?

Kansas City - best "burnt ends"

Ok first I have to admit, I don't know much about burnt ends. After watching the food network and the Ace of Cakes dude saying - "The best thing he ever ate was - """burnt ends on bun""" from Gates BBQ - it got my attention. But which Gates is the original?

But the big questions:

---- Where are the best burnt ends in KC? (not just gates - anywhere!)
---- Are they served everyday? (I'm only there next Friday)

Houston - key lime pie

Anyone recommend a Key Lime Pie in Houston?

I normally ask the restaurant if they make it "in house" and some don't!

Mo's A Place For Steaks - anyone eaten here

Allison from the Houston Chronicle didn't have very positive stuff to say about them.

Anyone eaten here yet?

Any specific menu items to recommend?

Dallas or Houston "Japanese Kobe" beef

The Akaushi is definately better than "prime" (I can only speak for the filet). It tastes right in between a "prime" and japanese kobe. Not to keep promoting Killens, but they do serve it as well - I believe all cuts are $85.

Also on another note - went there two weeks ago. Japanese Kobe is on an pre-order basis only. So no more "Kobe flights" or Japanese Kobe everyday. They recommend two weeks to order one. Bummer

Dallas or Houston "Japanese Kobe" beef

Anyone know a place that serves real "Japanese Kobe" beef in Dallas or Houston.

I've tried (and loved) the filet at Killens in Pearland ($160 for 8oz filet, and sometimes they don't offer it). Just looking for new places . . .
