Friends from UK have a 5 hour layover at Toronto Pearson Airport tomorrow
I think that it is afternoon.
Friends from UK have a 5 hour layover at Toronto Pearson Airport tomorrow
I'd really like to meet them but am worried about time.
What's the best bet to get something decent to eat out near the airport?
Marben for dinner?
Yes, as KAYLO says... some big changes with Karl and Ryan leaving a few weeks back.
charcuterie courses in toronto
I believe that Marben's Ryan Donovan hosts classes from time to time.
New Pizzeria Libretto location opening on the Danforth
Went the other day and it was smashing... charcuterie platter, the grande, was fantastic.
The service was good, but then I have NEVER seen so many staff in a restaurant.
Pizzas were both perfect, and the wine selection was most inventive.
Taste of Tandoree
All of the food on the "hot table" is actually cold and then heated up in a bank of microwaves.
I have tried it a couple of times and was extremely disappointed.
Bohmer- A remarkable experience
Oh c'mon... Ontario makes many a "world class" cheese!
Cafe Belong at The Brickworks
Well... Chris Johns gave Café Belong a critical assassination in the Globe over the weekend... but having watched his writing evolve over the past decade I'm not sure that I believe a word that he says. His review, like many of his previous pieces, waltzes off into a fog of self-congratulatory foodie onanism.
Has anyone been to Belong over the past week or so?
I believe that they receive their Licence this week.
I really want to try it out.

Café Belong

A rare NY steak from Canyon Creek Chophouse Burlington is tough to top for steak! Awesome!
I'm with Kagemusha,
While I am glad you had a great time, I have found every experience there most lacklustre.
And the steak appeared to have some crazy tenderiser on it... gave me a headache for hours afterwards.
New in Parkdale - The Boreal Gelato Company
In an attempt to beat the heat I ordered a two scoop cone of raspberry and strawberry sorbettos.
Now... I don't usually have a sweet tooth, but mine was utterly delicious.
I can see this being a new thing for me.
Oh... I also bought two Pineapple popsicles which are currently sleeping in the freezer... if my fridge holds out in this heat... wasn't looking good today!
Yikes.
I wish I hadn't just gone for a big shop!
Cafe Belong at The Brickworks
I had the pleasure of MC-ing a Long Lunch for Visa Infinite and Belong a couple of weeks ago.
The space was still in the midst of construction, but here are some pics of the rather smashing food.

dining in Stratford, 2011 season
I'm a huge Rundles fan.
Service is second-to-none... really it is stellar... puts much of TO to shame.
I was there last year, and the food was very good.

I would imagine that the menu has changed since then though.
Simple Fish and Chips is worth a visit too.
Coming from Scotland, I have had my fair share of good fish and chips, and Simply ticked all the boxes for me, and then some.
Excellent.
If you are taking the train then I'd also recommend a quick pint and wings just across the tracks from the station... I cannot remember the name right now... and it's a bit Roadhouse... but it is actually rather good.
Just watch your timing with the train...
I almost missed it!
Food Truck Festival - Distillery District - July 2, 2011
I think that it will be a splendid event... I'll be there!
where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??
When I got back to Canada last Friday someone mentioned that Chippy's in the Annex was moving... I went to their website but it appears to be down.
Any ideas what is happening?
Allen's on Danforth - will never go back
It's odd to me that you choose to say that.
John Maxwell is the most hospitable of publicans I have ever encountered.
Hooked Seafood - New fishmonger on Queen
I have never bought fish from there, but the place's back alley reeks out the Communist's Daughter bar during the summer!
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
I'm all for it.
SERIOUSLY.
For further discussion offline?
Please be in touch... I think I'm pretty easy to find email wise?
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
A very legitimate point aser, and something that we would love to address in the future with the Terroir symposium.
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
That is very good point, and something that I am very guilty of myself, hence my question.
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
I was under the impression that they were closed for redevelopment?
Did I screw up here?
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
Ha... My typo.
Sorry.
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
A number of the visits were to see old friends and/or past stages from Fergus and Trevor's restaurants.
There was also a mission to introduce him to some of the young Chefs who were invoved in the Terroir symposium.
As far as I am aware they were most impressed with both Toronto's food and hospitality.
Frank's Kitchen
Any more thoughts on the service?
My ex-wife got in touch with me to ask if I knew anyone there, as she was going to write a letter of complaint about the service.
She didn't expand though.
And she can be a little strange when it comes to that stuff (if I remember correctly)
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
Ya see... I knew we would have overlooked some places...
Forget about where we took him, where would YOU take Chef Fergus Henderson in Toronto?
Last week Fergus Henderson, Chef of St. John restaurant and author of Nose To Tail Eating/The Whole Beast, was in Toronto to act as keynote speaker at the Terroir Symposium.
www.terroirsymposium.com
As a few of us work on the organisational committee, we had the job (read: extreme pleasure) of showing him around Toronto for a few days...
Here's where we (Arlene, Rebecca, Danielle, Ivy, Malcolm, and I) decided to take him:
Beast
Marben
Langdon Hall
Lassale Farm - with Langdon Hall/Stratford Chef's School cooking
Cowbell
Parts and Labour
Le Select
Jamie Kennnedy Gilead
The Drake
The Harbord Room
Hooked... the new sustainable fishmongers
Cookbook Store
Niagara Street Cafe
Porchetta
Caplansky's
I think that it would be fair to say that we all have a bit of a meat/wine hangover...
Now the question is... what did we miss out? (Hoof excepted as it is closed for the time being)
What should we include next time?
Oh... and some pics of some of the places mentioned:

Are you asking about tables situated close to wood-burning ovens?
By your list I am guessing so... California Sandwiches aside.
