Brining beans? Yes!
I like this idea will try next time. Dry beans are so much more economical than canned beans. The price has jumped even on the dry ones. Can you tell me how to can my own beans? I have planted a garden and will have plenty of beans. Most will be dried but would like to know if canning them is an option.
Chili cook-off
So do we limit what people use? I know most cook-off say no beans so is it ok to say no rabbit?
Chili cook-off
Here's more information: The cook off is for our church group to raise fund for the missions we support. I went to the CASI site but it was just forms. Here is what we have thought of so far..... Advertise in the local paper for cooks and on the local radio. We would ask some local pastors to be the judges since it is a church event. We are thinking of charging a 25$ entry fee for teams and then sell the chili for a dollar a bowl to the public. A question that has been asked is how do we get a crowd to come and see the cookoff? I thought a car show might be good. Keep all the comments coming it helps alot.
Just have to share this recipe for Cowboy Candy...
Ok I haven't made this yet but need to know is this like a brittle or a relish. the candy label has me confused. Looking for a new appetizer for my collection.

Homemade BBQ Sauce - Do you?
BBQ sauce is easy. My kids wanted some sauce for short ribs. I just knew I had a bottle in the pantry.Nope nothing. So I'm looking for something and there in the fridge is ketchup well thats a start. So into the pan it goes on low heat a nice dash of onion powder and of course brown sugar. If I had some liquid smoke I would have added that. I did add worchester sauce. It was better than store bought and quick for what I needed. And I got rave reviews!!!!!
