Springfield area eats...with kids?
we lived there when my kids were young. while it has been a while, i know of Red Rose downtown on Main St., family friendly pizza and italian. kids can see the guys make the pizza behind the glass wall in the kitchen. I wouldn't rave about the food but it is good and my family loved it. I don't know how old your kids are, but I loved A Touch of Garlic in the Forest Park section of Springfield, just off Sumner Avenue on White Street I believe. (I'm sure they have a website). it is casual enough for kids but I don't remember if I have ever seen any there. It was very fresh, itailan food that I still crave. That is all I can offer knowing that these places are still around and friends tell me they are still the same.
Vestal, NY - Binghamton Coll.
My son and I are visiting Binghampton College and would appreciate a lunch recommendation. Want casual, local place. I've read about "spiedis" and would like to try a good one since this would be something unique for upstate ny (i believe?), but we are open to all suggestions. I did a quick search, but some suggestions found seemed out of date. It is just nice when college visiting to get a feel for the local flavor. Thank you.
Morristown, NJ - where are you eating?
I've noticed some new places opening up. Haven't been to any of the older establishments in a while. Miss having Ora next to the community theatre as I believe it was hitting its stride when it suddenly closed. Just wondering what others out there like.
Xmas gift: dinner in maplewood/montclair area?
Yes, Lorena's first came to mind when reading susan's post. Excellent, gracious and warm dining experience. www.restaurantlorenas.com
I haven't been to Fascino in Montclair, but it is considered one of the best restaurants in the state, no? Although I would believe Lorena's is up there as well. Such a nice Christmas gift...
Elevation Burger
I've never heard of this chain (organic, grass fed, free range cows) but it is coming to my neck of the woods in New Jersey. Any comments?
Need party locations in Morris county
while I don't know how many people you want to accomodate, I would check out the series of restaurants located in morristown, at the hyatt/headquarters building. They are Mendi and, I believe, Ming II, as well as a lounge, SM23. It is run by the son of the past owners of Moghuls. Here is the website: http://www.mehtanirestaurantgroup.com/
I believe they can accomodate a banquet.
Resto, Madison - review
I too had a lovely dinner at Resto, last month. My impression is that the chef changes his menu often. I love the space and found the staff to be very nice and attentive, and the chef visited the tables during our visit as well. I'm really hoping Resto can make a go of it in these difficult times as it is deserving. My favorite places to dine out tend to be small, warm places with creative yet not fussy dishes. The meal was special however. By the way, this is the same space that Mama Tucci's occupied back in the day, which was a favorite of mine.
287 South to bedminster chow stops?
yes, the infamous Jimmy Buffs, East Hanover...
You may want to try Raul's Empanadas, in Morristown, which is good (and cheap). It has received a lot of good buzz since openinga year or two ago. It is on Morris Street, and there is a Lafayette/Morris St. exit off of and back onto 287. Just don't park in the parking lot across the street (strip mall with a burger king) as people are often towed. There is a parking lot behind Raul's (behind neighboring Duncan Doughnuts).

this link might help, I'm sure if you google, you find news clippings as well.
If I think of others I'll post.
Barnard College vicinity
would like suggestions for lunch, nothing expensive. any cuisine. thank you.
Fave fast food guilty pleasure? [moved from Food Media and News board]
aaah, Jack in the Box tacos...when I was in high school back in the 70's, we would drive thru. The tacos are the only thing I have ever had at Jack in the Box. I have not had one since (not out here in the northeast), but I have had cravings over the years...weird, they must put something in them.
Carlisle PA
We always go to Piatto when we visit Carlisle. Menu is nice, atmosphere lovely. There is also The California Cafe www.calcaf.com which is french contemporary, and just a couple doors away from Piatto, but cannot say for sure if it is still good since we always book at Piatto when we take out son out to dinner.
I would also recommend Back Door Cafe for casual lunch. The food seems so fresh. In August, their gazpacho is cravable. www.thebdcafe.com
Morton's Steak House
we've been given a generous gift card to Morton's Steakhouse. Looking at their website, I would expect to go to their Hackensack NJ location or Midtown Manhattan. I checked out their menu online; prices are not shown, so wondering if we should go on our own or invite another couple. I know that may seem vague, considering you may or may not order appetizers, drings or dessert, but I would appreciate any comments from those who have dined at Morton's as I don't know what to expect.
Roadfood - NY to Cape Cod
when traveling this route, we often stop at Burgers, Shakes & Fries, just a few minutes off 95 in Greenwhich. I think they just opened about a year ago. They have a website, www.burgersshakesnfries.com that will provide the exit number. Found this place on the tristate board--you can check that out.
We spent many summers in brewster, but I cannot remember restaurant names except for Jt's (casual seafood, fried clams, etc), The Brewster Scoop for icecream, and we always made reservations at The Impudent Oyster in Chatham (just off the main drag in town). Hope the weather is good for you this weekend (but then the cape is good no matter what the weather in my opinion!)
Greek in Morristown !?!
had occasion to drive through morristown this morning and saw that the name of this restaurant is "Greek Delights" which also has a Montclair location. I know several people that eat at the Montclair regularly. My impression is that while it is not fancy, it is good, inexpensive greek food. We will have to see...the location is decent for the courthouse crowd, workday professionals, etc, but parking is difficult as a destination spot.
Oh, and they have a website: www.greekdelightsnj.com
Is there any decent Spanish -not latin- food in NJ?
you must be referring to Vivo Tapas Lounge on Ferry Street. It has gotten some hype, but I can't speak to that as I have not been. They have a website from which you can check out the menu: www.vivolounge.com
Greek in Morristown !?!
I hadn't noticed, but will be keeping an eye out. I miss good greek food (grew up in chicago). Last summer i was in Detroit briefly and had a nice dinner at a restaurant in Greek Town. I wish I had known about the festival at St. Andrews.
Hopefully this establishment won't be a chain...seems like they are able to afford the rents in morristown that the independent businesses could not? For example, Brick Oven pizza moving into the spot previously occupied by Ora (do they even use a brick oven?)
W. 54th between 10th & 11th
Thanks to all--these all are good options. The guys decided on mexican and went to El Centro and enjoyed it (and the pricepoint was good for them as well). We'll reserve the rest of these suggestions for future visits to that area.
W. 54th between 10th & 11th
My two sons are coming in from Penn Station to see a taping of the colbert report. They would like to have dinner after, nothing upscale, as they will be casually dressed. They are 18 and 20 yrs old if that should be considered. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thank you.
Cheap but good ethnic food in Morristown, NJ?
I first heard of this place from one on my teenagers, but then read about it in a thread on egullet. you might want to check it out, as it includes descriptions of food items and pictures. I also found the place to be attractive and clean.

Just Moved to Summit, NJ (from Brooklyn) and struggling to find good food! Help.
unfortunately, Mama Tucci's has recently closed.
Mama Tucci's, Livingston
I just tried to call Mama Tucci's to make a reservation...The number has been disconnected. Did they close? I haven't been lately, but was looking forward to a special night...
Narragansett, South Kingstown, Jamestown
I was at Turtle Soup once on Easter Sunday. I was impressed with the food and service. Now, the family meets at The Coast Guard Club for Easter Brunch...even with the new chef, it is just yucky to me. Is it just Easter Brunch, or is this place worth going to otherwise?
Urgent: ISO Easter Sunday Restaurant Suggestion near Rt. 202/78/287
Both Pierre's (that would be my pick) and Copeland (convenient as mentioned just off 287) are good choices, and known for their buffets. You might also want to consider Rod's at the Madison Hotel in Morristown/Convent Station. They all have Easter Brunch menus.

Irving's Deli in Livingston
I have this on my list of go to places. I was at Eppes in livingston recently. can anyone campare Irvings with Eppes?
Ora Restaurant, Morristown NJ
when i read your post, i checked out OpenTable and Ora was no longer listed...not a good sign. since then i have read posts on other forums regarding this and it confirms that they certainly are closed. very sudden. i'm sad. i would like to know why...i would like to think that morristown could support a nice restaurant like this, especially as it was right next door to the community theatre. some business owners complain about the parking headaches that affect business, others site the current ongoing construction. perhaps the owner just couldn't make it work. i hadn't been in since the "new chef" but i heard he was very good and was looking forward to dining there next weekend. i feel badly that you showed up for reservations to find it dark...
Best Pizza with cracker-type crust?
i crave thin crust pizza--hard to find out here on the east coast. having grown up in the chicago area, i loved barnaby's (northfield or northbrook), but also liked Tonelli's on Waukegan Rd. in Glenview...that was 20 years ago or so.
Need recommendation for french cuisin near East Hanover
nice options given. i've not been to the grand cafe but do know there is a dress code and it is expensive as well if that is a consideration.
another option you can consider is Pierre's Bistro (pierresbistro.com). it is in morristown/harding on Mt. Pleasant/Route 202. you can check out their website for menu information and prices (they might even have photos of the establishment to give you an idea of the atmosphere).
Best place to buy Seafood near Jersey City
Crab Kings
230 Miller St., Newark
(973) 824-7981

food in NJ
Moghul is closed (owners closed recently when their lease was up). Their son, however, has opened up Mendhi's and two other ajoining establishments at 2 Speedwell Ave at the Hyatt/Headquarters Plaza in Morristown. Haven't been there yet but the buzz is good.
Ora, South Street in Morristown (BYO) I enjoy. They have a website so you can check out their menu.
