Columbia 1905 Day this Sunday

From noon until 7 this Sunday the Columbia is rolling back their orices. We went last year and the two eat and drank like pig's for less than $20.00.
We had to wait about an hour for a table which isn't bad considering.

BEST PIZZA IN TAMPA BAY AREA?

Coming from New York my absolute favorite is Eddie and Sam's in downtown Tampa. They claim to ship their water in from New York. It's a little pricey but very very good. I'm sorry I don't remember the name but in downtown Clearwater on Fort Harrison there is another good place.

Clearwater Beach/Tampa restaurant suggestions

I just don't get Lenny's. Yes it's very crowded. The danish basket is nice. But we went back last week and it was so disappointing. The homefries uncooked, the omelets runny. Is there really more to say? You want a good breakfast there are so many more good places, Eve's in Oldsmar where they line out the doors, the Paradise and The Athens in safety Harbor. You want crowds and baseball go to Lenny's

BBQ in Pinellas County

I tried Brady's once for lunch and was very unimpressed. No better than Sonny's and we all know how good that is.

Real Southern Cooking in Tampa Bay?

In Pinellas I would try two places both in Safety Harbor. The Whistle Stop, for great Fried Green Tomatoes and Lincoln Heights Bistro for a chef from Brooklyn that has gotten rave reviews for her southern cooking

Estelas in Tampa

Don't expect much as far as decor, It's mostly a bodega/grocery store with a few tables. You can even watch them make thier own tortillas

Estelas in Tampa

I also have to say that I do not see why people rave about Estellas. Canned food at high prices. My choice for Mexican is still El Toro Negro in St. Pete. When you go there, there are usually more Mexican eating there than non Mexican. You can't beat the salsa bar and the low prices.

DC chowhound needs Safety Harbor/Clearwater recs

The farmer's market is now on Thursday mornings (such a bummer for us who have to go to work during the week)
Just had a black and blue fish sandwich for lunch today (blackened tilapia with melted crumbles of blue cheese) at the Whistle Stop. Quite good.
I do agree the Cuban at Shelley's across the street are really tasty. I can see people staying at the Spa a little nervousgoing in there. My suggestion is go buy the sandwich and go sit by the water by the pier on the side of the spa.

Shout Out for Whistle Stop in Safety Harbor

You are so right, it really is quite unique. We live in good ol' Safety Harbor, but don't get there as often as we should. Out of town visitor really enjoy the atmosphere.
The food is all so fresh, like real home cooking.

Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries Tampa

I think the regular fries were $2.09 or $2.29. This was the only one I've been to so I don't know what they do at the other stores.

Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries Tampa

You've got to try them again. the fries were not greasy at all and no taste of peanut oil. Though they do have peanuts and jugs of peanut oil all over the place. I haven't been to a Fuddruckers in the last couple of years. I do remember them being very good. The difference this is more of a fast food place. The food came out a lot quicker than I remembered at Fuddruckers. I could be wrong though, as I said it's been awhile since I was there.

Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries Tampa

Stopped for lunch today at the location on Fowler Avenue in Tampa and all I can say is WOW!!!
I'm a clean platter, I never leave food on my plate when I go out to eat.
There was no way I could even come close to finish all the food that they serve.
The menu is very simple
Hamburgers (2 patties)
little Hamburgers (1 patty)
Fries - regular and large
Hot Dogs
Grilled Cheese.
Plus all the toppings are FREE
I had the 2 patty with sauteed mushrooms, fried onions, mustard and ketchup.
I was going to get the large fries but the cashier said the regular would feed two and the large 3 to 4 people. So I ordered the regular.
They place the burger and cup of fries in a brown paper bag they then put another scoop of fries into the bag. When I was handed the bag it felt like it was 5 pounds.
There were so many fries I had to rip the bag open to get to the burger
The quality? OMG Fresh never frozen meat and fresh cut fries. today potatos were from Telton Idaho.
A must try place.

Hungry Detective in Miami

Chris I've got to say I love your show. I just saw the reruns of Alton Brown's on the road show. I originally had seen the first couple of shows but never saw the end. You really made the whole thing.
I did enjoy the Miami episode but got the impression that you were not really impressed with the Cuban but just being nice to your father in law.
I hope that we will see much more of you on the food network

Schiller's German Deli in Tampa

Matt, I'm so glad you finally made it to Mazzaro's. Saturday's are really crazy there. Went for lunch today the special Panini of the day was eggplant with spinach, ricotta and a marinara sauce. Pretty darn tasty. They did raise there prices from $4.50 to $5.00, still an incredible bargin for what you get.
I can't wait to try Schiller's.

Favorite Sandwich Joints in Tampa Bay?

Matt just checked out your website. Some great info there. Pizzo & Castellano's was my favorite for sandwiches, we would drive from St. Pete for lunch until we tried Mazzaro's. The sandwiches are made much quicker at Mazzaro's. The wait at P & C's at lunch can be long at times. The whole package at Mazzaro's is fun. We were there a few Saturday's ago and they even had a band on the back patio.

The Black Pearl in Dunedin

on a positive note, we just had a wonderful dinner at Cafe Alma.
Coming from northern Pinellas we don't get to down town St. Pete as often as we should (the place was hopping tonight).
As far as Cafe Alma, the service was fantastic. The next time we go we wil defineatly ask if Kiesha is working. Every dish from Ap to entree were perfect. We will be back.

The Black Pearl in Dunedin

After going there for 3 years in a row for Christmas Eve dinner we will not be going back. In the past the service has always been tremendous and the food mostly very good.
It started with the wait for the table we had reserved over 3 weeks ago. Yes I know it's Christmas Eve and the place is small so you would expect a wait. We were told 3 times that a particular table was leaving (loud enough for that table to even hear it.) When they left we were told we could not sit there it was a table for 4. At that time we were already waiting a half an hour but they wouldn't hear of it. After 35 minutes we were finally seated and waited an additional 10 minutes for a waiter. Considering there were only 9 tables and 4 servers I don't think that says much for the service.
To add insult 10 minutes after we were seated a table for 4 was given to a couple.
As for the food. Onion soup and Lump Crab Bisque were great.
Rack of Lamb excellent. Veal Porterhouse on the small side and very dry.
Not once were we asked how the meal was and water glasses were empty most of the time
We will be making a reservation at Armani's as soon as they are accepting them for next year.
Someone in a previous posting stated that the prices were very reasonable.
I'm sorry but for $150.00 for two people without appetizer I expect a little bit better service.
