Irish Nachos - Dundas and Church

i had passed this place several times and been interested in trying it, and we finally got the chance to go on Friday. This place is great! The owner is very friendly and he made our food. I had the Pachula Veggie Delux and my mister had the Pollo Loco. Both were delicious. Mine was like a veggie chili on roasted potatoes (i think they're fried, but they're like really good home fries). The mister's was like a well seasoned chicken fajita on potatoes. The ingredients all taste like good quality (nice tomatoes, white chicken) and everything is flavourful. He even makes his own hot sauce from his granny's recipe and it's very, very tasty.
Definitely a great takeout place for a great price.

nūd fūd

just had the green energy and the grawnola...and both are delicious. so, i thought i'd bump this thread to spread the good word.

Where can I find champagne vinegar?

pretty sure i've seen it at pusateri fruit and veg market on church.

nūd fūd

very delicious and nutritious locally made snacks.
just discovered this brand at fresh and wild on king. the cacao energy chips made with banana, sesame seeds, coconut and cacao were so tasty that i went online and ordered one of everything she makes. i haven't tried everything yet, but so far everything i've tried is yummy.

Lola's Commissary

i live in the neighborhood and i've been here several times and i really like it. i always get the huevos rancheros, 'cause it's my favourite. but, i tried a bite of the cheesecake french toast and it was very yum. good brunch atmosphere too.

Toasted Sesame Oil

i believe i got mine at pusateri fruit and veg on church street.
whole foods should have it too, they have loads of oils.

p.s. it adds really great flavour!

Lunch recommendations near MEC

i've had nice lunches at brassai, crush, le select and buca.
www.brassaii.com
www.crushwinebar.com
and the food is excellent at lee, but i haven't been there in a while, the service used to be not-good.

Good value Italian or Vegetarian or Modern near Yonge and Wellesley

fire on the east side is only 2 blocks north at gloucester. i love their brunch and have heard good things about all the other meals there. maybe the picky eater could get the burger?
www.fireontheeastside.ca
Olympic Pizza is next door and it's good too.
And, you can always head to Church and Wellesley (and one block south to Maitland) and check out the menus at the range of restaurants on that strip.

Cherry Street Restaurant

has anyone been here? is it open? i was thinking about biking down for lunch this weekend...

Where can I find black sesame seeds?

sanko on queen west has them.

Ottawa restaurant recommendations

i posted the following in '08 on this board (try searching ottawa and there's some good info). i have been to beckta and benny's recently and they are still excellent. i can't say enough good things about beckta.

here's the old post:

my mum and i spent a weekend in ottawa in june to attend a japanese cooking course at the cordon bleu (which was only ok, i prefer calphalon here.) we LOVED our experience at beckta. the service was excellent and the food was delicious. we did the tasting menu and i would definitely reco it. we also had dinner at domus based on reco's from this board and the chef winning various awards. it was very nice, but beckta was a hard act to follow. we had brunch at benny's bistro and it was really, really good. http://www.bennysbistro.ca/ (i had the Triple cream brie stuffed french toast with a roasted rhubarb, strawberry & vanilla bean compote $14...my mom had the Savoury marscapone and chèvre cheesecake with organic baby greens,
scallions, toasted almonds, strawberry and white balsamic vinaigrette $13)

going out for dessert?

went to dessert trends on harbord last night. the desserts were great and the space was nice.

going out for dessert?

what are people's favourite places to go out for dessert downtown? quality of dessert is the most important, but ambiance counts too.
thanks.

Italian Blood Oranges

i saw a sign at pusateri on church saying they got them in.

iso: Anis de Flavigny candy

i'm pretty sure i saw some by the back cashiers at fresh and wild at king and spadina.

going out for fish. specific day/days to go/avoid?

i've heard people say things like, "don't do for sushi on a monday, because many restaurants get their fish delivered on tuesdays."
is there any truth to this in toronto? is there a day that's best for going out to eat fish in toronto and a day that's the worst?
thanks.

visiting from toronto, staying at the roosevelt

appreciate it. went to la fonda del sol last night. especially enjoyed the tuna tacos. and the fritters with dipping sauces for dessert.

visiting from toronto, staying at the roosevelt

looking for recos for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the area of the hotel (madison ave at 45th)
casual (not neccesarily pubs, but not mandatory dinner jackets either). good food. really pretty open to a lot, without spending too much (like, not really looking for 5 star luxe dinners).
we'll also be eating in other neighbourhoods, but we're working a lot in the area of the hotel, so it'd be great to know of a few good, convenient spots.
any help is appreciated.
and if you visit the toronto board, i'll be happy to return the favour.

Best Ottawa Brunch?

Benny's Bistro is really tasty.
www.bennysbistro.ca

Anything decent in area of Air Canada Center?

how about bardi's? it's really close and a great steakhouse.
it's not exactly cheap, but it's definitely not a sports bar.

Lakeview Restaurant - Anyone been?

ended up going to lakeview for a bite to eat on friday night, because the lineups at utopia (we were in that neighbourhood first) and pizza libretto were too long.
from most of the reviews on here i thought i would basically be eating poop.
but, i had "the turbo" (fried egg, chili garlic mayo, cheese, sauteed mushrooms, added sauteed spinach, on an english muffin) and it was very tasty. great diner food for the price in the area.
my boyfriend had a burger, which he did admit was a touch dry, when i said the reviews on here said the burgers were horribly dry. but, he thought it was pretty good still. the sweet potato fries were yummy too - crispy on the outside and soft/fluffy potato on the inside.
i'd go again if i needed a quick affordable meal in that neighbourhood.

Lakeview Restaurant - Anyone been?

is it still terrible?
was going to go tonight, because some of the menu sounds good, but these reviews has made me rethink. seemed like the best bet for the $ in the area.

What excellent, gift-worthy, Ontario foodstuffs (not restaurant food, CSAs, or veggie boxes) do you order by phone or Internet to have shipped?

is champanade available at any downtown toronto stores**? and do you have a favourite flavour? are any flavours no good?

edit** found store info on the website.

Mexican Coke?

i'm pretty sure that ghazale (the middle eastern take out place) at church and wellesley sells bottles of it. i know they have a non-canadian/american one, and i'm pretty sure it was mexican.

Where to buy bitters downtown

where are they usually located in the grocery store (aisle)? i ask because often stock boys aren't especially knowledgeable.
and, also, any brands/kinds to recommend? i know nothing of bitters and am curious to try them.

non-alcoholic drinks

where do you get your bitters?

non-alcoholic drinks

Looking to host several dinner parties with interesting/exciting/rare non-alcoholic drink options that can work well with food, or on their own. For example, in the past I've found that elderflower water can make a fine substitute for something like a Riesling.
Looking for suggestions on juices (sparkling or not), or even teas (hot or cold) or bottled waters that are actually worth their high price. And, where might i purchase these delightful beverages?
Thanks.

Ejwaj - japanese restaurant on isabella - anyone been?

I just moved nearby and I've noticed this japanese restaurant on the north side of isabella east of yonge. it looks nice inside and is usually pretty full whenever it's open. has anyone been or heard anything about the food?

terrazza on harbord?

thanks. i'm thinking about going tonight. if i do, i'll report back.
