NY foodie coming to New Orleans looking for CANT miss places- Help me with my itinerary please

I love Mandina's, usually for lunch. And although my opinion is apparently in the minority around here, I enjoy their 1/2 shrimp 1/2 oyster poboy - and they should have a soft shell crab poboy around this time of year...

Indian Hurricane Drink Recipe? (moved from New Orleans board)

I know this question is not strictly about food, so please don't shoot me.

Does anybody know the "Indian Hurricane" recipe from the now defunct Hookah Cafe in Marigny? It was far superior to the overly sweet Hurricanes served throughout the tourist district.

Quick Marigny Suggestions?

Whoops. Mandina's was nowhere close to where we stayed, but the other 2 were.

Quick Marigny Suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody!

We ended up WITH the kids after all so we had to stick to the beaten track, but we we're able to squeeze in El Gato Negro, Adolpho's and Mandina's, both of which were very conveniently located to our hotel. (Not a B&B as earlier planned...)

El Gato Negro certainly had some good food - and the Margarita's were very tasty. Our two entrees hit the spot for a quick lunch for us and our 2 youngest kids (ages 5 & 8 - not big eaters.). Shouldn't a quality Mexican joint make their own chips, though?

Adolpho's was hit and miss. The crabmeat and corn cannelloni appetizer was nice, the spinach stuffed chicken was very good, and the shrimp and crawfish spaghetti would have been great but for the crawfish - too tough. Our server was really good, by the way. I've got to say, though, that bathroom was nastier than the hookers I saw trying to sweet talk their way past the doorman at the Hookah Bar.

Mandina's was great, as always. I just love that place.

If anybody wants to know anything about the Frenchmen Hotel, let me know.

New Orleans with picky teens on a budget

Definitely do Mandina's. I can easily see 2 teenagers splitting an order of onion rings and a 1/2 loaf po-boy. The onion rings come piled high and the 1/2 loaf comes cut into 2 sections, each of which is a sandwich unto itself. If they're big eaters then they could split a po-boy and an order of meatballs and spaghetti - you'll know why they call it meatballs and spaghetti when you see it.

Frenchmen Street is the place for good music. Just cross Esplanade at Decatur, walk past the Fire Station and you're there. There are shorter routes in and out of there, but I know what it's like to be in a strange city with kids in tow. You'll find about 4 blocks of really cool places that are generally free of the foolishness that goes on in the Quarter. Once you make it to the park, turn around and come back - once again, that's the parent in me coming out. There are cheap eats out there, too. See the "Marigny Suggestions" thread I started a few days ago.

IMHO - Acme is overrated.

Quick Marigny Suggestions?

Have finally pushed the significant other out of her comfort zone and will be staying at a B&B in the Marigny this weekend.

I have 1 job, 2 mortgages and 3 kids, so does anybody have any suggestions for value food and drink on the cheap there? Suffice it to say that I don't care about pedigree or presentation, only good eats at a reasonable price. Kids will be staying at home...

We are willing to travel some as long as it's close to a streetcar (like Mandina's), but we really want to try places in and around the Marigny. $$$ and higher restaurants will be avoided.

BTW, we leave today!
