Jive Turkey
Recently went for lunch and it was a huge disappointment. Had the turkey piece meal and it tasted like a TV dinner! Meat was tough and chewy and skin was not crispy (soggy). Don't recommend it. The owner seemed very nice though. I wish it just tasted better!
Potato Waffles in NYC
Hi!
I miss potato waffles from London. Is there any place that I can find potato waffles in Manhattan or around? Either frozen or in a restaurant?
Thanks,

Miso
Hi!
I just bought some red miso paste but apart from making miso soup, I have no idea what to do with it. Anybody have any suggestions or good recipes?

Cheap organic foods in Manhattan area
Any suggestions for best places to go for cheaper, more inexpensive organic foods (fruits, vegies, milk, meats, etc)?

Tribeca eats
Hi!
I just took a part-time job in Tribeca and am new to the area. Can anybody recommend any good local places to eat that are inexpensive to moderate? I'm interested in all kinds of places for lunch and dinner......asian, french, spanish, american/english, everything.
Only place I know of is Pakistani Tea House, and I've seen Amish Market but haven't been in there yet.

Greenwich Village Treats/Walking Tour
Hi!
I was thinking of exploring some cheaper food/snack places in the Village after reading about Patisserie Claude and 'bings', although I'm not completely sure what this is, would like to try it.
Are there any other good cheap eats I could go for while on a tasting tour of the area?
I heard about falafels somewhere in the area too.....

What is the broth made of? Do they have a vegie broth? Or a beef broth?
(Sorry if I posted this twice. I thought I did and searched for it but couldn't find it)

Quickly Shabu Shabu
I was wondering what the soup or broth is made of? Do they have a vegie broth? Or a beef broth?
Slow Cooker
Any suggestions for a good slow cooker?
I used to have a Rival that I bought from Target and it cracked.
Are there any where the pot can be used on the stove to saute spices etc and then be used on the slow cooker as well? That's what I'd really prefer.

I looked at epicurious, recipebazaar but they didn't look very good.

Bombay Talkie- Parent Friendly?
Just got back from dinner there. The lamb chops were the best!!!! Appetizers were okay, not as fresh as I've had in a 'real' Indian place.
You could make a reservation and request a booth. I did see this long table upstairs where it could be 'communal' if it got busy.
Hope you enjoy it!

Who eats cow's feet?
There is also a Pakistani dish made with cows feet. It's pronounced 'Piyah'. I'm sure they must have it at Shaheen's in Jackson Heights. It's like a thick gravy simmered with spices and the cows feet. Served for breakfast typically.
Bombay Talkie
Hi!
Just heard about this place in Chelsea. I was wondering if it is any good? Authentic or Americanized? Any dishes that are especially good or ones that ought to be missed?
Sounds like the atmosphere is lovely but wondering about the food.

Lemongrass
Looking for suggestions of what to do with lemongrass. So far, I just simmer it in my chai. Any good, simple recipes? I know it's used in thai and vietnamese food a lot.

Upcoming Indian Dinner Party - seek your input
My family does this too. It makes for a really easy, quick, healthy snack. Yummy.
What is your favorite marinade?
cilantro, chillies, garlic, lime, and salt.......all smashed up in the mortar and pestle. With chicken.
Love this post! :)
Hell's Kitchen Breakfasts....weekdays and Sat
When I went to Vinyl, it seemed very baby tolerant. I went with my 18 month old nephew.
Hell's Kitchen Breakfasts....weekdays and Sat
Hi!
I'm looking for some good places for breakfasts/brunch (french toast, corned beef and hash, eggs, omelettes, etc) in Hell's Kitchen (W. 40's, W. 50's, from 8th to 10th Avenues). Not too fancy or expensive however.
I've been to Vinyl and liked that a lot, however, am interested in other options. Ethnic options are great too.

Dumplings, wontons, noodle soups, and banh mi , NO PORK
Hi!
I've been reading about dumplings, wontons, noodle soups, banh mi sandwiches, etc on this site. I know that many chinese restaurants use a pork broth for these dishes.
I'm looking for some of these dishes in a NO-PORk option. Other meats are fine...chicken, beef, shrimp, lamb, etc. Just no pork broths, cooked separately. I'm not 'Kosher'.
Any ideas? I especially want to try these dumplings and wonton soups. Tasty versions though. Anywhere in Manhattan.

Brown Sugar Cake
I recently had brown sugar cake with lavender ice cream at CraftBar in NYC. I wanted to make the brown sugar cake at home. Did a search online for the recipe but couldn't find one.
Anybody know of a good recipe to make this?

Individual Sized Cake Recipes
Hi!
Does anybody know of any good simple cake recipes for making small individual sized portions as they do in the restaurants?
I'm particularly looking for a good one for a brown sugar cake?
Also, is there a good place to get bakeware that would make small individual sized cakes? Or would a muffin pan just do?

Salads
Hi!
I'm trying to eat more salads and have become very bored of mine.
They have been quite simple....lettuce, cherry tomatoes, raisins, olives, parmesan cheese, or baby mozarella balls, cucumbers, croutons, mandarin oranges. (Not all of these items together but a different combination each time). I love salad dressings and these make my salad. My new one is a miso salad dressing.
Anybody have some suggestions or ideas of ways to jazz up my salad or different things to add to it?
Cheers,

Jambalaya and Paella with only chicken and shrimp
Hi!
I'm looking for a places where I can find jambalaya and paella without any pork or seafood (except for prawns). Not necessarily from the same place.
Are there places anywhere in the city where I can get these dishes made-to-order using what I want? Is there such a thing?
Please advise. I haven't ever tasted these dishes due to these food restrictions.
Thanks,

Lavender ice cream in NYC
Hi!
I just had lavender ice cream today for the first time at Craftbar.
Does anybody know where I can buy some of this in any form in a store? I.e. on a cone, cup, or carton to take home.
Thanks,
nycrani
