Where is the best West African restaurant in Montreal?
so yeah I checked out Tombouctou and it's definitely West African. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and there's a grocery store as well in the same building. The alloco was okay, although I didn't expect the plantains to be sweet. It was my first time that I tried attieke, so I'm not sure how it would compare but it seemed okay. The grilled chicken was served some veggies on top, it was nicely seasoned although it felt just a little dry. The portions were reasonable. It was nothing spectacular but i'll definitely try it out again.
Also on the front of the store, it says they have buffets during lunch. The lady told me they don't do it anymore but they still have lunch specials. Next time I go, I should definitely try something more a little more authentic like their yassa, maffe or sauce feuille.
carribbean puree like food
Does anybody know where I can find Caribbean restaurants which serve buljol and choka on their regular menu. They have it at Bon appetit des Caraibbes only during Sunday brunch and also the service was pretty bad.
Where is the best West African restaurant in Montreal?
not sure if those are west african but there's Hot Africa on Queen Mary near metro Snowdon and Tombouctou on cote des neiges next to the second cup
What's so great about Schwartz's?
generally after a piece of meat has been cooked for a very long time, if it is tender and lean, it cannot be juicy as well. I don't even think phosphates would make it any juicier, just sloppy
What's so great about Schwartz's?
Your jimmies seem to be thoroughly rustled. Is crumbly meat really this bad? I would understand if the sandwiches were consistently super dry
Openings in 2012
everything is meh on the menu but it's not exactly horrific
I find that the fries are great and always consistent though
Biggest food store in Montreal for dried beans?
but it seems to have the best prices around.
Biggest food store in Montreal for dried beans?
I'm not sure if they have yellow eyed beans but segal on st-laurent has a nice selection of dried beans.
The best place for smoked meat
I don't think this is more toxic than smoke from wood chips. Also I think i read somewhere before that they smoke their meats for over 24 hours, but smoked meat never tastes smokey at all. I bet they do the drippings method maybe just for like half an hour and the rest is steaming
Best Breakfast/Brunch on Monday in Montreal
bagel etc. on saint laurent between rachel and marie anne is nice standard fare and good value. Get's pretty busy on the week ends
Grumman 78 Food Court @ Faubourg
By milk drink you mean the horchata? Man I was hoping they'd do that right
Grumman 78 Food Court @ Faubourg
hyperboles eh. it sure is easy to make a mini taco look loaded. A regular banh mi will cost you 2.75$ have more fillings and more bread. The filling is so cheap, and I doubt Grumman's fillings is way of much better quality than the shops in chinatown.
I'm really tempted to try the fried chicken though. I hope it's not just a drumstick over potato salad
M. Wok on Monkland
i dunno but i gotta say fay-wong is pretty decent for ndg chinese food, a little out of the way for most ndgers though
Butchers that sell ground chicken and/or lamb at good price? (And also need a place to buy jamaican jerk seasoning)
I actually find that Jerk seasoning is quite common, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to find Walkerswood products. I got some Jerk powder from Maxi in CDN
Poutine en Folie
how did indian choice influenced your opinion on this place? I went there once with friends, I didn't order anything and my friend had the regular poutine. The fries were your generic yellow frozen dry fries. I wouldn't give it a try unless nothing else is open at night
If I say RUE VICTORIA (between Jean-talon and Ste-Catherine) in Montreal
Nothing great but caribbean curry house, Dev and Jolee are all great value for decent food
Soba Sushi in Westmount
it's like the only option in the area but it's not that I great i heard.
Soy lecithin in Montreal
Does anyone know where I can find cheap soy lecithin in Montreal? Preferably not in the West Island or too far east or too far North.
Cajun Pickled Pork in Montreal
Where can I find pickled pork for red beans and rice in Montreal?
Restaurant Openings in 2011
oh wow really? I was kinda sad to see the Steve pizza go. The pizza was decent and it was the only close by that offers decent poutine relatively late at night. There's no way i'm walking all the way to Rapido or la Banquise at night. Food at pitarifique is generally meh, but I love how their fries are always done consistently and to my liking, also the hot subs were decent, way more affordable than the more well known montreal sub places however they are a bit skimpier with the meat
Bread in NDG/Westmount
If OP knows about Premiere Moisson on Monkland and is looking for something different or better, I'm not sure Banette would cut it. I thought their breads were made from frozen industrial dough in France, I'm not sure how they do things at the Montreal location.
Poutine in Montreal?
Poutine Lafleur on Wellington is the best I've had in here.
5.50$ for a large poutine, abundant reasonably fresh curds, gravy at the right consistency and not too salty, crispy brown/orange fries soft on the inside and not dry.
The only problem is that I don't think many people would have a good reason to head to Verdun.

Best subs in Montreal?
Btw is it just me, or does it seem to be a little ridiculous to be paying over 10$ for a 7 inch sandwich?
Best subs in Montreal?
Had the steak sub at copoli near metro vendome. The filling is nice, although quite basic (lettuce, mozzarella, tomatos, onions (not listed on the menu), pickles and italian dressing (not drowning in it). There was quite a lot of meat and it was well seasoned. The bread was your typical sub bread, but it was toasted well on the outside. It came to about 10$ tax included for 7inch.
best roti and jerk chicken?
I know that feel.
If you want the best bang for your buck, head to marries in the cote des neiges plaza food court. It's probably preprepared and it's definitely not the best quality, but you'll get your food fast and i personally find that it's the best value you'll find for caribbean in montreal.
Restaurant Closings in 2011
sigh... it was decent pizza for its price, the only place in the area really. And their poutines were surprisingly decent as well, same with their subs.
oh well at least I moved out of the plateau this summer
Cheap kebaberies and grillades shops on CDN
I've heard good things about Farhat but I never went. Today I tried a merguez sandwich for 3.50$tax incl. at le marche d'alimentation le Mediterranean and it was quite good. The bread was your typical commercial french roll, nothing special there. The merguez had good flavor, were quite juicy, and the casing seemed kinda crispy/fresh (I didn't ask whether it was a natural casing or not). The condiments available are tomato sauce, harissa, pickled eggplants?, tomato, olives and lettuce.
I was wondering how do places like Farhat and that place next to Sindibad compare
