Napa restaurant plans (especially if TFL doesn't work out!)

My husband and I are planning a trip to Napa this August --

We'll be staying in Napa for 4 nights and want to get to some great restaurants. We live in NYC and have been in Per Se a couple of times but would love to get to TFL...unfortunately, we haven't been able to get a reservation and we only have one more chance to try (tomorrow will be 2 months to the date of our last night visiting Napa).

So, since TFL isn't looking good, here's what we are thinking/planning -- please let us know if this is a good approach OR if you have other suggestions. We are also looking for some great casual brunch and lunch opinion to complement our evening splurges!

Dinner night 1: We have reservations at Bottega
Dinner night 2: We have reservations at Meadowood
Dinner night 3: We're thinking Redd
Dinner night 4: We're thinking Cyrus

Thoughts?

THANKS!

Great, High-end and Unique Downtown Coffee shop

My good friend (who will be visiting from Los Angeles) loves and knows her high-end and unique coffee houses/shops. She'll be visiting me in a couple of weeks and I want to bring her to a great coffee house/shop. Any suggestions for where we should go? NYC Geography isn't an obstacle!

Thanks!

Our Annual December "Vacation"

Hi KT, is your question to me or to Spiritchaser???

If me, my favorites from my list above were: Le Bernadin, Daniel, Eleven Madison Park, Jean George, Sushi Yasuda, Per Se, and Babbo. Mesa Grill is good/fun but not in the same league. I thought that Gramercy Tavern and Del Posto were overrated.

Seeking romantic/unique dinner idea for nyc native...

I thought the food was great! My fiance (now husband!) took me there the night he proposed and we were both very pleased with the food and the full experience. I'm mostly a fish eater and I had a really great meal. My husband had the foie gras and some meat dish and loved both. While it wasn't on par with the best of the best (we've been to Le Bernadin, Jean George, Daniel, etc. etc.) -- it was definitely better than our experience at Gramercy Tavern and similar types...

Have you considered River Cafe? Might be a bit over your budget - but very beautiful view of Manhattan, food was fantastic, and its very romantic...

Our Annual December "Vacation"

For the third year in a row, instead of leaving the city for the holidays, my husband and I are planning to "vacation" in NYC during the last week of December -- by using our vacation budget to try some great restaurants...

Noteworthy places we've been to over the last couple of years: Le Bernadin, Daniel, Gramercy Tavern, 15 East, Mesa Grill, Eleven Madison Park, Del Posto, Jean George, Sushi Yasuda, Per Se, Babbo, and River Cafe.

We are planning this year's restaurant list and need your help - what do you suggest we try this year???

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Thanks!

Toronto Foodies coming to NYC - Recs please

I agree with all the high-end recommendations...for a fun and delicious hole-in-the-wall option, I suggest going to Caracas in the east village. It's a Venezualian arepas bar, located on 7th street by 1st ave. (note: there are actually two locations there -- one is for take out, the other is the regular restaurant...)

Vegetarian visiting New York for the first time! (on a budget!)

While not the cheapest, in my opinion Candle Cafe is the BEST vegetarian/vegan restaurant in NYC -- Its on 3rd btw 74th and 75th. Entrees are between $15-$18 and worth every bite...

wine bar downtown for bday celebration???

Hi Chowhounders! I'm celebrating my 30th bday tomorrow evening with friends...We are heading to Kittichai at 60 Thompson for dinner - and then I'd like to find a casual (not too hyped; not too wild or loud) wine bar-like place for drinks. There will probably be 10-15 people meeting for drinks. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

December Restaurant Splurge - Part II

Thanks, A Snaffese. It wasn't easy getting the Per Se reservations...In fact my boyfriend enlisted 3 of his colleagues to call in at the same time. Thankfully, one of them got thru - and now I can't wait! Thanks for the other suggestions....

P.S. He was also planning it as a surprise and then slipped and told me -- so be careful!!!

Dinner for 2 for $400 including wine, tax, and tip

If you like fish, definitely go for Le Bernadin...I think LB is better than Gramercy Tavern and 11 Madison Park (although, if I had two choose between the two, I'd definitely pick 11 MP; I had the worst service experience at GT). The Daniel experience is also fantastic - though you might need to have another $50 on hand!

December Restaurant Splurge - Part II

Thanks, Everyone, for your responses so far!

Great point about Babbo - silly oversight leaving that off the list! As for out-of-borough and cheap(er) eats..we're all for it! We care much more for the food than the price or the hype. I will be sure to look into the other suggestions above - and if there are any more suggestions, I'd love to hear from you (who knows, maybe we'll be able to use them for a December Splurge 2009 :-)!)

Thanks, RGR and Kobetobiko...

I don't eat meat or shellfish (just regular fish) - is there anything for me at Momofuku Ko???

December Restaurant Splurge - Part II

For the second year in a row, instead of leaving the city for the holidays, my boyfriend and I are planning to "vacation" in NYC during the last week of December -- by using our vacation budget to try some great restaurants...

Last year, we went to Le Bernadin, Daniel, Gramercy Tavern, 15 East, Mesa Grill, Eleven Madison Park, Del Posto, Stanton Social, Bar Americain.

We are working on plans for this year and would love some feedback on our preliminary list: Jean George, Sushi Yasuda, Per Se (we already have reservations - and we are DEFINITELY going!), Milos, Asiate, and maybe Garden cafe in Bklyn?

Any thoughts? which are keepers? which should we change for a different choice?

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Thanks!

We must get into Per Se

I'm confused about using opentable for Per Se reservations...When I've tried to make Per Se reservation on opentable it always tells me that I can only reserve up to one-month out eventhough the restaurant's rules are two-months out. RGR, how did you successfully make a per se reservation using opentable???
thanks!
