How would you define gourmet and....
MEOW !!!!!!!! As I stated in the first line "..... I would just like to see what people consider gourmet food" That's my point... I wanted see other people's thoughts/ideas.

Jean Georges Steakhouse Question
I've been here a few times to JG. The bare bones menu you saw online is just the same in the restaurant as I recall. You would think it being a steakhouse of a well known chef.. the choices would be great... it's not. The first time I went there.. the rib eye was the best I had ever had anywhere ( until I went to Carnevino). the side are so small and disapointing ... laughable actually. The last time my Hubby and I went to JG.. we were highly disappointed with the porterhouse and filet.... the staff did nothing about it. I had the bone marrow as well... very good (over priced) Would I go back.. probably, I love Jean Georges. OH... get the Yuzo lemongrass cocktail... the best ever ! Eurphoric. The best 'beef' experience I have had ever.. anywhere has been Carnevino at the Palazzo... exceptional ! We had the dry aged bone in rib eye, cut table side. Liteally melts in your mouth ! Side options were amazing. The service was impeccable and the check staggering and worth every dime.

Wine bars in Las Vegas? Suggestions
OK... So after reading all these post.s...last night we went to a wine bar (of sorts) and to somewhere not mentioned on here (someone in group suggeste The Wine Cellar at Rio ..it's beautiful there ! Not crowded and trendy. (I had the supet Tuscan flight #16). Not a restaurant... had some nice cheese, fruit and bread. Nice wines and experience all arround. Going to go to Nora's next weekend . Thanks everyone for suggestions and I'll keep the list.
Wine bars in Las Vegas? Suggestions
I'll keep that in mind... but we are thinking wine, not food ... for this weekend anyway. I think the wine bar is run in a different way than a restaurant that serves wine... or am I wrong. I haven't been to a wine bar..just going by what I am reading here

Foie Gras....from Paris, in a can?
No... doesn't say mi-cuit / à moitié cuit or anywhere on the can, so I assume fully cooked (no issues through customs) Maybe I'll try searing the other can - maybe. Bought a bottle of Clicquot today and already have some Fig Chutney that I purchased in Provence. Going to have an "Ode to Europe" dinner party soon, the foie gras will be a nice addition. Save fat for cooking...good idea. Thanks again everyone.
Foie Gras....from Paris, in a can?
Thanks for all the replies. I found out later that the other can I was going to buy was goose.....the person in the store in Paris didn't know the English word for goose and I didn't know the French word for goose, so I missed out. I'm sure I will enjoy this as much. Thanks for the tips as well.
Foie Gras....from Paris, in a can?
This is the Label : Foie Gras de Canard Entier Des Landes.
I assumed (right or wrong?) it was already cooked since it's in the can and you just eat it when out of can, no prep. I like the bread, cornichons, cocktail idea.
what flavors go well with watermelon?
I have a watermelon salad sometime with fresh mint, feta cheese, paper thin slices of red onion and drizzle with lime juice and honey.
Foie Gras....from Paris, in a can?
I just returned from France and brought home two cans of foie gras. Now that I am home... I have no idea what to do with it. I have not bought it in a can before. Au Secours! Help me ...please.
How would you define gourmet and....
Hello everyone,
I have a question and some comments. I would just like to see what people consider gourmet food. I have a friend who considers himself somewhat of a gourmand/ gouremt cook and claims to know good food but.... he does not eat onions, celery, peppers, doesn't like this or that, uses can soup to make a meal (ie: can soup, cheese and potatoes) and puts ketchup on pasta and pizza, jar cheese over baked poatatoes, etc etc. Also, I see on food websites (considered gourmet, fine food) where people have submitted their own recipes and I see things like chicken fried steak, pasta & ground beef casserole...which I don't consider "gourmet". My question is, how do you define "gourmet", not from a dictionary but in your own words. Thanks
What ingredients make your heart go pitter pat?
Capers
fennel
arugula
and if they are all somehow in the same dish... bonus !
